I am using WinXP SP2 and just two days ago the computer stalls at the loading screen (black screen says Windows XP and the blue loading bar underneath). It doesnt completely freeze but it just keeping on loading and never gets to windows, even after I wait for 10 mins. I have tried F8 and used 'last know good configuration and that didn't help'. The only change that i've made was instaling a new DVD burner a few days and it worked no problem after installation. The stall problem started after I manaully shut down the computer (press down power for 10 secs) when my computer froze from using dvd shrink. I'm pretty sure its not the software problem.. it should be hardware problem? Should I update dvd firmware? Is there anything else I can do to fix the stall problem?
I am running windows XP Home edition with SP2. When starting up it stalls at the XP splash screen with the flashing bar below it. I can start in safe mode but haven't had any luck with the system restore.
My machine runs fine for a bit then starts to stall and the screen goes black for a few seconds. After an hour or so the computer then locks and needs restart.
My son has a Dell dimension XP. It wont boot past the windows splash screen. We can get into safe mode, from there we have tried system restore. It did the restore but still wont boot up into windows. We have also tried chkdsk /f and /r but it tells us that the system is in use by another process. We have disabled the startup up progs, and tried again but it stills says the same. OK so we tried using the xp installation disk, changed the bios to boot from CD Attempted to do REPAIR, but it said ' set up did not find any HDD installed in your computer.
When I start the computer, it asks if for the choice of Safe Mode, w/ Networking, w/Command Prompt or Normally.
I've tried them all and if I try it normally, it won't get past the XP loading screen. It's loading and then it flashes a blue screen for a second and then restarts the computer again.
I tried pressing F8 at boot and selected 'Disable automatic restart on system failure' and this is what I get
I even tried using this http://forums.techguy.org/6669592-post28.html to get to chkdsk At boot, F12, chose CD/DVD, but still nothing, I even tried disabling boot from +HDD, FDD and LAN from the bios setup menu to see if it works and this is what I got, it just keeps going on and on unless I enable boot from +HDD
Having suffered 3 HDD failures, I have cloned my laptop hard drive (XP Home edition) with Norton Ghost 9.0. I have copied the MBR as well and made it active. Replaced the laptop drive with the cloned drive, but it only boots up to the XP light blue screen and stalls.
My HP Laptop is about 4 years old, but still works great... until a few days ago. When i start it up, the loading screen comes up and finishes. Then it goes black, and stays black. I CAN however boot in safe mode (not safe mode with networking tough), and it works fine. I am also having problems finding my CD, but have the License Code. So a No-CD Answer would be wonderful
Today I decided to do a system restore on my HP desktop computer. It was running painfully slow, to many un-needed programs etc. So I backed up all the files that I needed to keep and save to my external hard drive. The computer did not come with an operating disk so the only way I could get it back to sorta normal is to do the system restore. After I backed up all my files I restarted the computer and pressed F11 or 12 cant remember the one for system recovery/restore. About 12 seconds into the restore/recovery thing I accidentally hit the power switch under the table When I turned the computer back on I presses the F11 button again and this time made sure nothing bad happened. After it completed its task I clicked OK and restarted the computer.
i think im postin in the right place. I have a system that i built about a month ago that keeps crashing and i dont know why. It runs XP. when i start the computer, it will either shut down after the windows loading screen, shut down after the motherboard maker screen, or shut down as soon as i power up. I buit it, but this is the first time ive done anything like this before, and i dont know much about the workings of the insides yet.
I have a larged data drive that failed a disk check. It stalls when starting stage two (I belive that is the verification of indexing). I have been able to back-up all of the folders except for a large folder of raw video. The PC locks up when I attempt to access/copy this folder (it appears to be part of the problem). I want to make an attempt to recover this data before reformatting the drive. The check disk fails both at start up or if I run from the desktop both in regular and safe mode.
I have this strange problem:I can't see my Bios loading .The screen is totaly black untill the windows' welcome screen , and then everything is back to normal. It happened when I updated my motherboard Bios (Gigabyte GA-8N-SLI ,Rev. 1.0) through the original vendor's Website
My dads pc was fine then all of the sudden it just restarted. And it came up to the options:restart in safe mode estart in safemode with networking estart in safe mode with networking Last known working config Normal But when he tries any of them.. None of them work The windows loading screen will come up flash a blue screen super fast (cannot read it no matter how hard i try) then go back to boot option screen.
I couldnt start up windows. It would hang at the windows loading screen and go no further. So I was told to try a repair-install. And thats where even more trouble has started. So I started to repair-install. During the Windows Install setup, it gets almost to the point of being completed, but gave me a blue screen error STOP message at around the "18 minutes left" mark. During "Registering components". It would do this every time at the same spot. So I searched a bit about how to solve the problem. One suggestion I found on the interwebs was to try it with only one stick of ram installed, I have four overall at 2gb. So I tried that, next time I boot up to the comp, it loads up the bios, and then goes to the black windows loading screen with the loading bar, then starts with a blue screen saying "Setup is being restarted" So I figure its restarting my windows installation since it never was completed, after that message, the screen goes black with a cursor, and stays that way forever. I immediately put all the ram back in, and no luck, same thing. I tested each individual ram stick, same thing, just goes black. So now, I can't even seem to re-install windows. Did my hard drive just crap out? Some hardware issue? Im already thinking about buying a new fresh hard drive, installing windows on there, and just moving all my files from the old hard drive over to the new one. Though that would be a pain, I really want to save my current drive! And all the data on it.
I've got a few things that I can't stop from loading on start-up. I don't use the programs (or very rarely use them) so I just end up right-clicking on them on the toolbar to stop them. I tired going into the options for each program to stop them from loading on start-up but can't find a way to do it.
Is there a way to view what loads on start-up so I can remove them from the list?
hi ive had this problem for bout a month now everytime i log on the start bar or icons never appear. i had my mate look at it but he could not resolve the issue. i need to get to important files such as rental agreements. i got the full avg software ran it but still no luck seems all viruses are deleted to my knowledge.
When I turn on my computer, everything seems to be going fine... the manufacturer's screen comes up, then the screen that shows Windows is loading, then it kindof gets stuck between the loading screen and the welcome screen. It just goes black. The hard drive will run continually as if it's searching for the rest of the information, but can't find it.
When I load windows, it gets up to the loading screen, stays on for a second, or less, and then just the screen blanks out and restarts again...This is after my first PC build. THe Harddrive is detected fine...(its also the one i used from the old computer I had...) What can i do for this?
Out of nowhere when I log into Windows, it loads the wallpaper but refuses to load the rest of the desktop (start menu, desktop icons, etc.). The only way I can browse the computer is by opening the task manager and running a new task (opening the C drive).
I am getting the following Rundll notification on WinXP SP2.
Error loading C:windows patchw32.dll The specified module could not be found
I have checked on the C:windows|npatchw32.dll file and it appears to be spyware that has been removed but I need help in removing the run dll notification
The issue started when I went into msconfig and checked 'safe mode' in boot.ini. I restarted my computer and every time it would get to the Windows XP loading screen it would get The Blue Screen. I fixed this issue by putting in the Windows CD and clicked repair.
i just recently reinstalled windows xp on an old computer i had become corrupted and i had to reinstall it and now it boots up fine but during the loading screen it goes blue screen idk ive tried to reinstall the os again and still the same any advice it an hp pavilion 514c
It is just a backup drive to be used for video editing -not a primary drive. However, once rebooting I get as far as the windows boot screen and then it hangs. The screen goes black, my monitors power down and nothing happens. Occassionally it reboots on it's own accord but instead of seeing the usual dos prompt screen all I get are some nastly looking blocky patterns. I usually have to turn the power off at the wall when this happens. I get no error messages on the screen at any time.
The good news is I CAN BOOT IN SAFE MODE! This is the difference I have found with other similar problems posted. I can boot in 'safe mode' and 'safe mode with networking' no problem. I can see all my HDD's and everything seems fine. From here I've tried doing system restore several times with no effect.
I am sorry i cannot give you the complete specs for the pc that is in trouble. However it runs an 80gig, cd drive, is about 4 years old, 64mg graphic card, 1.25g ddr ram 133, running xp. not sure home or pro. I would think home version. This system belongs to a friend who knows less than i. He recently had troubles with his system and I ran a few cleaning programs and made some adjustments to the system for better performance.Simple things such as choose for best performance, ccleaner, defrag the system and thats about all. Though I could not defrag drive D partition. A message said it had errors and needed or recommended it be scanned upon restart. So we did.
It all went well. Finished 5 of 5 then the next part it stuck at 0% and didnt recover from it. We waited say 40 minutes and still nothing so we restarted the system. It loads but hangs at the loading screen.I cannot use the xp recovery disc as it needs a password to get access and we do not have one. The system was bought from someone long ago. So recovery is out.Safe mode hangs when it gets down to mentioning the graphic card details and no other option will fully load either. Can anything be done here to get XP to boot?In the mean time I am currently setting up xp on another hdd and am going to try and retrieve as much data as I can from the crippled system. But if I can get it working then I will not have to sacrifice a HDD and not loose all of the outlook data etc.
A few weeks ago, I was having virus problems on my computer, along with various other problems, such as Norton not working. One of these problems was that I would boot up my computer, and it would be stuck on the Windows XP loading screen with the little green bar forever and would not load the user screen. However, I could get the computer to boot up in Safe Mode with Networking and could get just about everything to work fine. Thinking that the problem with loading was a virus that had erased some of my system files, I reinstalled Windows and reinstalled Norton correctly along a Sygate firewall. Everything was running fine, I was running Spybot and Ad-aware every day and a full system scan weekly, but today, I started having the loading problem again. I have no idea where to start fixing it. I am currently running Safe Mode with Networking, so I can use the internet and most of my other programs, but I want Normal mode back for obvious reasons.
I was surfing on the web and my computer froze on me (Everything froze besides my mouse). So when I restarted my computer, everything was fine until I got to the loading screen (screen with the windows logo and the loading blue bar). I've waited for the longest time ever but the blue bar would keep moving while windows doesnt even bother to load up.I've tried running Windows in safe mode but its still stuck at the loading screen.
Between the Windows XP Pro loading screen (thingy) and my desktop opening, there's an odd pause whilst my computer just sits there doing nothing with the screen completely black, does anyone know what that's about?
Well last night I was on my computer as normal, and accidentally knocked the monitor plug out of the back of the monitor when I was moving stuff around on my desk and tried plugging it back in to reactivate it to no avail, and then tried unplugging and plugging it back in again on the back of the computer itself.
I then decided to just restart the system by switching it off manually by pressing the on button on the front, which is a normal procedure I've had to do lots of times before when trying to get my monitor(s) to work properly. It then went to the Windows screen with the usual blue bar scrolling across and rebooted. I let it reboot again, and it came up with some options to:
(F1) Run Setup (Esc) Boot-up Menu (F10) System Recovery
I decided at this point (since I've encountered this problem before and had to boot the system up from a different drive), to press Esc to run the boot-up menu and tried each of the options in turn, since it rebooted again after each and every option I chose.............
my parents PC got infected with spyware and the browser was hyjacked. I tried all I could to fix this but I couldn't. I tried posting here for help but didn't get anyone who could fix the PC. So I tried the windows restore. So I went to start>All programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Restore. I chose the date and it ran. Once it got to the end it rebooted the PC and it came up with the normal strtup procedure untill it said "loading windows xp" or "starting windows xp" something like that, once that goes I get a black screen with just the curser visible. So I tried to reboot and it came up with the settings like start in safe mode, start windows normally, previous settings etc... I have tried all these and they all do the same, black screen after loading. Now the PC has no windows disc thanks to the companys stop supplying the discs and it also has no restore disc.
I had recently formatted and reinstalled windows xp home edition. Everytime I restart my computer this comes up after the Dell logo displays. It lasts for approximately 5 minutes and then the Windows XP loading screen comes up and boots to the desktop. This load is really annoying and has never happended to me on previous installs of Windows XP. Please let me know how to resolve this issue
