I've got a few things that I can't stop from loading on start-up. I don't use the programs (or very rarely use them) so I just end up right-clicking on them on the toolbar to stop them. I tired going into the options for each program to stop them from loading on start-up but can't find a way to do it.
Is there a way to view what loads on start-up so I can remove them from the list?
I have what I want there. I don't need anything else. I don't want programs there that I rarely use and it's a pain in the to delete them constantly.
Even things I don't explicitly run. Real Player Updater ends up there when it runs in the background

When I start the computer, it asks if for the choice of Safe Mode, w/ Networking, w/Command Prompt or Normally.
I've tried them all and if I try it normally, it won't get past the XP loading screen. It's loading and then it flashes a blue screen for a second and then restarts the computer again.
I tried pressing F8 at boot and selected 'Disable automatic restart on system failure' and this is what I get

I even tried using this http://forums.techguy.org/6669592-post28.html to get to chkdsk At boot, F12, chose CD/DVD, but still nothing, I even tried disabling boot from +HDD, FDD and LAN from the bios setup menu to see if it works and this is what I got, it just keeps going on and on unless I enable boot from +HDD

Since I installed SP2 everything seems OK except I now notice that some web pages will load only part way then stop loading. If I use Firefox and go the same page it loads immediately. Is there some security setting I should aware of that prevents some pages from loading? The last page I had a problem with was one associated with Paint Shop Pro - hardly a suspicious website. I like Firefox, but unfortunately my password manager (Norton) doesn't work with it.

The computer boots, shows windows XP loading and then stop. No error message. No blue screen. NOTHING. Just empty dark blackness. And I am at a loss what to do. I know they have viruses on their computer and I was trying to help them get the computer fixed. Now I dont know what to do.

I was checking my daughters pc for some usual maintenance. The start programs on list suddenly dont open, computer freezes up, did the error-checking but I cannot seem to get some vital prgrams to open up. I am running a couple of recent worm tools from Symantec and so far, nothing. Could this be a hardware problem or can someone tell me something I am missing?

He told me that something pops up - usually every two minutes - and nothing happens.I saw the following: stop all active programs, click the desktop, wait a while, and sure enough, the cursor gets a small hourglass and then returns to normal. And forget about trying to do 2 things at once! View 6 Replies View RelatedI have experienced a sudden problem starting programs. The computer boots correctly, and all desktop icons appear correctly. But when I double click a desktop icon, or start a program from the start menu, I get a popup window displaying a list of programs and asking me which program I want to use to start the application. I select the correct program (or browse to the appropriate .exe file), but still the application doesn't start. This includes IE and Windows Messenger. My virus scanner was about the only thing that I could start up, and I did a system scan with Panda Anti-Virus, but it didn't show anything substantial (just some cookies).Using my WinXP set up disk,I've tried to do a repair (I guess reinstallation without reformatting the hard disk), but after I entered the License Key, the computer did a reboot and then stopped. It is stuck on the XP splash screen and won't go any further (I once let it run over night, but it was still frozen on the splash screen). I even tried to repeat the repair process, but that didn't work.Automatic updates did download an update just before this problem started (I think it was the day before the problems began). I don't know what this update was and I'm not sure it was SP3 (system does have SP2 installed).Considering that the computer freezes now when booting up, is there anything that I can do short of reformatting the Hard Drive? I also have another hard drive that I can use to install XP onto. Is there any way that I can rescue the data from the old Hard Drive and transfer to new drive?

Then it goes black, and stays black. I CAN however boot in safe mode (not safe mode with networking tough), and it works fine. I am also having problems finding my CD, but have the License Code. View 1 Replies View RelatedI am using WinXP SP2 and just two days ago the computer stalls at the loading screen (black screen says Windows XP and the blue loading bar underneath). It doesnt completely freeze but it just keeping on loading and never gets to windows, even after I wait for 10 mins. I have tried F8 and used 'last know good configuration and that didn't help'. The only change that i've made was instaling a new DVD burner a few days and it worked no problem after installation. The stall problem started after I manaully shut down the computer (press down power for 10 secs) when my computer froze from using dvd shrink. I'm pretty sure its not the software problem.. it should be hardware problem? Should I update dvd firmware? Is there anything else I can do to fix the stall problem?
