Im having trouble with my mouse not working in all places. Sometime it will and sometime it doesn't. Ive even replaced it and it is still not working in all place. Mostly it happens inside a box.

Then I tried to delete a word with the keyboard and nothing happened. I turned off the computer and unplugged and plugged the mouse and keyboard back in and when the start up screen came up on windows xp to log in my mouse didn't move at all. Could any one explain what is going on? I would greatly appreciate it. I got to get my paper off that computer.

I had a warning from kaspersky saying it had found and deleted a tojan.Ok, so it was gone, but since my keyboard and mouse just stop working when they feel like it.
the strange thing though is the mouse will still move around (just wont make any tooltips appear or click on anything) and the keyboard wont type yet the shortcuts will still work for eg ctrl+alt+del, the windows logo key and ctrl+shift+esc are the ones i tried so far and they all work, and bring the correct things up
how to stop double clicking on every icon and that'll probably mess you up sometimes. Well you think that you've clicked on it by opening it and you still waiting like an idiot sitting at the computer waiting for something to happen. Here's a solution for you: Click on the START MENU > CONTROL PANEL > NOTE: If you're in the new Windows XP mode in Control Panel - Click on the Appearance and Themes icon - If you have in the Classic mode then just simply click on the - FOLDER OPTIONS> Now you see the Click items as follows - go down to the little of Single Click to open an item - and if you want to you can click on one of Underline..... tools --doesn't do much though!

View 9 Replies View Relatedwhen I try to start puter first the mouse dont work any more. I had a Logitech MX 510. IT lights up but wont work. Installed a Radio shack mouse worked for a little it. Then it shuts down too. I try to start computer and tap on F8 key or DEL key sometimes it works an sometimes not if it works I am good for a little bit. 15min to 30 min then lock up. If i get into safe mode its ok until about the same 15min to 30 min. If F8 and DEL keys dont work It starts the process and then gets to floppy disk and fails. It say Floppy Disk Fail (40). I have checked and the fans are working and thats not a problem Hard drives work and 1.5 GB ram and thats ok too. So stumped and wondering if I can fix it or not.

I don't use the programs (or very rarely use them) so I just end up right-clicking on them on the toolbar to stop them. I tired going into the options for each program to stop them from loading on start-up but can't find a way to do it.
Is there a way to view what loads on start-up so I can remove them from the list?

I recently purchased a new Hard Drive from Western Digital. It's an Internal 500Gb, and its been running so-so. It's sort of loud, mainly as it sort of vibrates the case of the computer (I have one panel off as the cord im using wont fit). View 2 Replies View RelatedMy son's Compaq Presario SR1200NX running WinXP has a slight problem. When starting the comp it will get as far as the desktop wallpaper and then just stops. The mouse cursor is there and moves around but there is no taskbar, clock, start button or anything. I'd give y'all a hack file but I can't get far enough to be able to do that. I've tried ctrl-alt-del and that does nothing. I've tried running in safe mode and I still only get to that point. I've taken the HD out and connected it to my notebook and cleaned it up with an anti-virus program and anti spyware stuff. Physically, it's fine and I can run any program on it but only as an ext. HD for my laptop.

During random times, my mouse click freezes, although my mouse can move and I can use the key board at this time, I cannot click or focus anything. When I start the computer, it asks if for the choice of Safe Mode, w/ Networking, w/Command Prompt or Normally.
I've tried them all and if I try it normally, it won't get past the XP loading screen. It's loading and then it flashes a blue screen for a second and then restarts the computer again.
I tried pressing F8 at boot and selected 'Disable automatic restart on system failure' and this is what I get

Used Win 98 SE startup diskette to start system w/CD rom support.
Navigated to D: Drive which containe the XP OS reinstallation. Navigated to I386 folder and typed WINNT to begin reinstalling files.
Start WIn XP setup and began copying files to HD.
Screen shows: The MS-DOS based portion of setup is complete. Setup will now restart you computer. After your computer restarts, WIN XP Setup will continue. Remove floppy, etc.
Computer restarts - did inspection of system, shows Win XP Setup, loading files (drivers, controllers, etc.)
Starting windows - Welcom to Setup:
1. Setup - press enter
2. Repair (using Repair Console)

I have looked on MS site for the error code and think I understand that the problem is either a hd controller device driver is not installing from the Dell Reinstallation CD and therefore stops the installation of the software. How I can possibly extract and install the driver setup may be looking for.
STOP 0x00000050 (0x8CCC1345, 0x0000001, 0x808A65A1, 0x00000000) These both happen when installing windows, either when at 95% of copying files or when booting into windows.
View 7 Replies View Relatedusing windows xp media edition. when I click on things on my screen my computor sometimes works ok but sometimes doulbe clicks or triple clicks and sometimes clicks up to five times by itself I don't understand why this happens. Is it possible I have some type of virus that is causing this multi-clicking of the mouse when I only click once. I did a full system scan with Norton and nothing is found.
View 6 Replies View RelatedOur server has a mouse that is stuck. We know why and it needs to be rebooted. BUT our admin doesn't want to reboot. So rather then argue about it I got a question for the group How do I mouse with a keyboard. I used to know how , it is a distance memory. Can you point to me a document or list of keystroke to work my way through this process? I only need to configure one app and turn it on as a service. Then the server can sit with no mouse my job would be done.
I need to go to:
start>programs>app>app>open
down arrow
double click
right click (to get context menu) this will let me start the service from the app
click
close
logoff
My Dell Dimension desktop is running Win XP Media. A few days ago the mouse simply stopped working and on a reboot it did not fix it. I was using a wireless keyboard and mouse and noticed the light was not coming on on the receiver/transmitter so thought that perhaps that might be the problem. At the time I did not have another keyboard with a usb plug, my childs pc had a ps2 keyboard and i do not have a ps2 port. So I used my childs pc and my wireless keyboard and mouse work perfectly on it, including my transmitter/receiver.
The problem is obviously not with the hardware since they do work on her pc. I did however purchase a new keyboard and mouse - usb this time. I get the same issue. The keyboard works fine as I am able to boot in safe mode, enter the set up etc and can move around in those screens. As soon as it hits the XP log in screen though I am screwed, the keyboard is useless and with no mouse I am unable to click on my user name to log in...............
My mouse lags, I think it does it on the desktop (not sure), but in games it easy to see. I set my max fps to 100 and then it lags when I move mouse around, but when I have 400 fps it doesn't lag! I have tried another mouse, updating all drivers (chipset, mb, GPU, mouse)

I checked with a USB mouse, and with a USB graphics tablet- same story, no response. The USB devices were tried in the main USB slots and in a hub. They both work fine on another PC.I have started in safe mode, and deleted all HID devices. Windows then detects the mouse, but then reports (via device manager) that it cannot detect the hardware.

Last night, the right-click function on my optical mouse starting acting up, wouldn't work unless I pressed hard. As I was furiously right-clicking on the desktop to get it to work, all of the text backgrounds on the desktop icons turned from invisible to black. Oops, no problem, I thought, I'll restart and it'll return to normal. Nope. So I right-clicked (replaced the mouse with a PS2 model, works fine now) on the desktop, went to the Desktop tab, Customize, Web, and unchecked "Lock desktop items". The icons looked fine after that. More weirdness followed: when I went into hibernation, no problems (it stated "preparing to hibernate", etc.). But touch the mouse, and it returns to life as if in standby mode. All the power settings are normal for using hibernation. Please don't tell me to not use hibernation, I've always used it with no problems. No new or weird processes running in the background. What on earth could my idiotic right-clicking have done to my settings to result in these two problems? Oh yeah, I did update Windows a few hours before this, but the hibernate feature definitely worked prior to my problem. I'd hate to have to restore to the previous restore point since I'm on dialup and I hate updating Windows manually.
