I want to know how you can stop programs minimising. I want to watch a google video while using another program, however when I go to it the google video is minimised.
Is there a program which locks programs in place so I can watch the google video while I type something in Word etc.
I'd like to know how to be able to minimise the RAM my system is using to be able to save more ram for games. Anyone have some ideas? I've got 1gig but without anything running I'm sitting at around 300mb of RAM at idle. With Windows XP SP2 Home Edition. By the way why does this forum have such a nice font compared to other sites? I just copied it into Word and it's saying it's Times New Roman but it looks so much better than other sites using Times New Roman.
I just got a laptop with 200 server installed on it and I would like to learn about it. I need some help with what I thought would be a simple setup. I want to set up 2 users for this laptop. myself and my daughter. I have it set with myself as the admin and her as a user. I want to be able to limit the amount of damage she does to the poor thing. My main question is how to set up certain programs to work and not work for her. I have one program music match that works in admin but not on user even though it seems to say it will work for users. From what I have seen from this operating system its not real easy to set it up. I have a book from the library but its a que and not good for me. Any advise on a good book would be great. I know it would be easier to use xp or win 2000 pro but thats not nearly challenging enough for me.
how to stop programs stating up on their own,i.e. I have real player which I rarely use, however it is permantely in my system tray, I think that what you call it, where the little icon tell you what is running, I would like not to have real player there.
I've got a few things that I can't stop from loading on start-up. I don't use the programs (or very rarely use them) so I just end up right-clicking on them on the toolbar to stop them. I tired going into the options for each program to stop them from loading on start-up but can't find a way to do it.
Is there a way to view what loads on start-up so I can remove them from the list?
I have Windows XP and there are apparently a lot of programs starting up that don't need to be. (I remember when I had another version of Windows that allowed me to see what the heck was running in the background easier than the XP does--make sense?). Anyway, I think that I'm having too many programs starting up and running in the background that don't need to be. I am sure that this has been asked on this forum a bazillion times, and I've searched but I can't seem to find the answer to my question. How do I stop all of these programs from running in the background?
there are a few programs that automatically start when I start up my computer. Now ive run acrossed it before but now I can't find it and I was wondering how I get those things from automatically starting.
A friend has a new HP desktop with Win XP Home. He told me that something pops up - usually every two minutes - and nothing happens.I saw the following: stop all active programs, click the desktop, wait a while, and sure enough, the cursor gets a small hourglass and then returns to normal. If you are in any other program when this happens, you lose focus and have to regain it manually.I'm at a loss as to how to detect what, exactly, is going on.Do any of you have any suggestions as to how to monitor this to determine the culprit?
I am working on my mother in laws computer so I am not sure what happened when the errors first started happening. She has a Dell and is running XP home edition. When I got the computer and booted it up, I got the following errors:
driver_irql_not_less_or_equal and iastor.sys address F861A25F base at F860B000 date stamp 42b2df42. At this point I could not boot up at all, not even in safe mode.
I am getting the blue screen of death with 7E error code. It gives me the standard message at top. This is the ONLY information listed where it says TECHNICAL INFORMATION:STOP: 0x0000007E (0xC0000005, 0x8A98AAB3, 0xBA513B98, 0xBA513894)I've tried system restore with no success. I have added no hardware or software recently. This started unexpectantly yesterday. The night before I went to a website and it was not a trusted website and I "x'd" out of it. The next day it does this.
I dont know exactly what is up with my computer but basically its all messed up. A good deal of my programs don't work after I run them once so i have to reinstall them every time i want to use them (iTunes, SmartFTP client, Propellerhead Reason, Ahead Nero). Also, sometimes when I boot up my computer, the taskbar, start button, and icons don't load up and I need to end the 'explorer.exe' process and manually restart it. Then after going to the start menu then 'all programs' once or twice, the menu just freezes up and closes without letting me choose a program. At first I thought that my windows install was corrupt or something but then I remembered that none of this started happening until after I reformated my drives. Today I just finished reformating again and i'm having the same problems the programs not wanting to work. I would love any help (hopefully its not my hardware.)
straight outa the help, thought some people might find it usefullTo set the compatibility properties for a program manuallyRight-click the program icon on your desktop or the shortcut on the Start menu for the program you want to run, and then click Properties. Click the Compatibility tab, and change the compatibility settings for your program. NotesThe Compatibility tab is only available for programs installed on your hard drive. Although you can run the Program Compatibility Wizard on programs or setup files on a CD-ROM or floppy disk, your changes will not remain in effect after you close the program.
i put together a system the other day after my old one totally pooped out on me. i installed the hard drive from my old system into the new one as a second hard drive, and installed xp pro onto a different hard drive (primary master) in the new system. how can i use all my old programs that are installed on the old hard drive without confusing the heck out of xp? many of the applications on the old hdd are confused when i run them, i am guessing because when they reference files in locations where they think they should be, but they are not finding them. i don't even have enough room on the primary master drive to install all the programs, its a very small drive. nor do i have enough room to fit xp onto the second hard drive.
i'm having a serious problem with my computer, i am on my dads pc the now because my PC is trippin. Programs start up on their own and the keyboard doesnt work. I Think it is a virus or a hacker, or maybe even spyware im not sure. When i stick my system recovery disc in and at the start up but wen it asks u to press 'r' i can't even becuase the keyboard isnt responding. is their anyway i can get my PC back on track ? because i dont want to lose everything on it i have around 300gb of stuff on it.
All programs like wmp, winamp cd rippers, cdburnerxp pro3,ect do not work when it comes to playing or ripping cda music files. I think there is a problem with the mci cd audio driver.I cant figure out how to change it or where to load the cd audio driver for windows xp home.
I do not know what really is the problem. The taskbar buttons could not be seen when i have other programs and windows running. I can only switch from one window to another using the Alt+Tab button. I am using windows XP Home. I've made a printscreen of the problem.
Ok, I honestly don't know why, but my computer has been running very very slow lately.. programs are taking forever to load, Internet Explorer windows take 5 years it seems like to come up, and it's just running slow all around My computer is about a 2-3 year old Dell that has run amazingly since the day I installed Windows on it. It has Windows XP Service Pack 2.
none of my programs willl work if i click on them it will say error not found or ask me to choose a program to run from a list i cant do anything and would really like some help i even cant download anything becuase it will ask me to choose the program from a list too
Major virus infection on computer resulted in fdisk and reformat. I used Win 98SE to fdisk and reformat, as I couldn't for the life of me find a format on the Dell Operating reinstallation CD. (could be first mistake)
Used Win 98 SE startup diskette to start system w/CD rom support.
Navigated to D: Drive which containe the XP OS reinstallation. Navigated to I386 folder and typed WINNT to begin reinstalling files.
Start WIn XP setup and began copying files to HD.
Screen shows: The MS-DOS based portion of setup is complete. Setup will now restart you computer. After your computer restarts, WIN XP Setup will continue. Remove floppy, etc.
Computer restarts - did inspection of system, shows Win XP Setup, loading files (drivers, controllers, etc.)
Starting windows - Welcom to Setup: 1. Setup - press enter 2. Repair (using Repair Console) 3. Quite - F3
Pressed enter
Next message:
Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer. Make sure any hard disk drives are powered on and properly connected to your computer. This may involve running a mfg supplied diagnostics or setup program.
Setup cannot continue Press F3
System then attempts reboot, attempts installation again by booting from HD. Then error message:
Dell Deminsion 4600 series p4 processor @2.4 GHz 512 MD DDR SDRAM @ 400 MHz 128 MB DDR NVidia GeForce FX 5200 graphics card 80GB 7200 RMP Ultra ATA HD Win XP Pro SP1 48x/24x/48x CD-RW Drive SoundBlaster Live! w/ 5.1 support
I have looked on MS site for the error code and think I understand that the problem is either a hd controller device driver is not installing from the Dell Reinstallation CD and therefore stops the installation of the software. How I can possibly extract and install the driver setup may be looking for.
STOP 0x00000050 (0x8CCC1345, 0x0000001, 0x808A65A1, 0x00000000) These both happen when installing windows, either when at 95% of copying files or when booting into windows.
okay at first this wasn't too anoying but now it is a major problem at first it was just that when i went to windows update it would get stuck in the thing where it says that it is checking for the latest updates.to try and solve this issue i did these things:i ran windows update for 3 days straight and didn't do anything on my computer (it was stuck in the screen i mentioned before)i reinstalled windows, but for some reason the problem carried over a friend of mine told me about windows defender and that it was free, so i installed it and behold it uses windows to update and im stuck with the bare bones of the program.
I have a Logitech M305 wireless USB mouse that my XP won't recognize on any port. However MY XP recognizes my wired USB mouse and printer, and scanner. The M305 works fine on my other machines?
i have MCE and whenever i try to play a video or tv, it says that the files needed to display a video are missing or corrupted. How can i fix this. The videos work fine in Media player, but not in Media Center
I was checking my daughters pc for some usual maintenance. The start programs on list suddenly dont open, computer freezes up, did the error-checking but I cannot seem to get some vital prgrams to open up. I am running a couple of recent worm tools from Symantec and so far, nothing. Could this be a hardware problem or can someone tell me something I am missing?
I reinstalled Windows XP. For some reason, all of my old programs show up in Windows Explorer, but not in the Start Menu or in Control Panel/Add Remove Programs. Is there a way to fix this?
I am using the IIS on Windows XP to test pages I develop. Is there a limitation that Includes are not processed? I know they work on the server but do not seem to work from the local IIS install.
