All programs like wmp, winamp cd rippers,cdburnerxp pro3,ect do not work when it comes to playing or ripping cda music files. I think there is a problem with the mci cd audio driver.I cant figure out how to change it or where to load the cd audio driver for windows xp home.

The start programs on list suddenly dont open, computer freezes up, did the error-checking but I cannot seem to get some vital prgrams to open up. View 7 Replies View RelatedWhen I start up my computer it will not respond to anything that has to do with my keyboard and mouse. I couldn't figure out why, I mean they came with my computer. The mouse is not even optical and it has a cord. I tried booting into safemode but since the keyboard doesn't work I couldn't. I tried booting from a disk but I have to be able to press any key to be able to do that. I couldn't log onto the accounts because that requires both a mouse and a keyboard. I tried using a different and keyboard that plug into the same ports, which resulted in the same thing. So I used a keyboard for a playstation 2 because it uses USB and I used a mouse I found that hooks up to USB as well. They work fine. However, I want the PS/2 ports to work because I better things to be taking up my usb ports.

It's always said that... and my mouse lights up and my key board lights up fine... but when I press F1 and it goes to the Windows loading screen, the lights powers off and the keyboard doesn't work.. and I can't use my mouse or keyboard when it reaches my login screen.

View 7 Replies View Relatedwhen I try to start puter first the mouse dont work any more. I had a Logitech MX 510. IT lights up but wont work. Installed a Radio shack mouse worked for a little it. Then it shuts down too. I try to start computer and tap on F8 key or DEL key sometimes it works an sometimes not if it works I am good for a little bit. 15min to 30 min then lock up. If i get into safe mode its ok until about the same 15min to 30 min. If F8 and DEL keys dont work It starts the process and then gets to floppy disk and fails. It say Floppy Disk Fail (40). I have checked and the fans are working and thats not a problem Hard drives work and 1.5 GB ram and thats ok too. So stumped and wondering if I can fix it or not.

When I go to the device manager, it's telling me that no audio device is installed and I can't seem to find it or how to reinstall it (I do not have the disk that came with the computer). However, my main concerns are the USB ports and the Plug and Play feature. These were working fine, but now nothing happens when I plug in a USB device. There is power going to the USB ports, however, the system doesn't seem to recognize that I have plugged something in. I've tried uninstalling the drivers and restarting the system, and the drivers were correctly reinstalled but it is still not finding any new device that I plug in. System restore isn't working either.

I want to set up 2 users for this laptop. myself and my daughter. I have it set with myself as the admin and her as a user. I want to be able to limit the amount of damage she does to the poor thing. My main question is how to set up certain programs to work and not work for her. I have one program music match that works in admin but not on user even though it seems to say it will work for users. From what I have seen from this operating system its not real easy to set it up. I have a book from the library but its a que and not good for me. Any advise on a good book would be great. I know it would be easier to use xp or win 2000 pro but thats not nearly challenging enough for me.

A good deal of my programs don't work after I run them once so i have to reinstall them every time i want to use them (iTunes, SmartFTP client, Propellerhead Reason, Ahead Nero).Also, sometimes when I boot up my computer, the taskbar, start button, and icons don't load up and I need to end the 'explorer.exe' process and manually restart it. Then after going to the start menu then 'all programs' once or twice, the menu just freezes up and closes without letting me choose a program. At first I thought that my windows install was corrupt or something but then I remembered that none of this started happening until after I reformated my drives. Today I just finished reformating again and i'm having the same problems the programs not wanting to work. I would love any help (hopefully its not my hardware.)

I have heard that the OS will look for tags in the mobo bios and won't install if it can't find them.If it won't work would an upgrade version of xp work. They are cheaper but need verification that you own a copy of a MS operating system, could I use the OEM xp for verification.If none of this will work is there anyother way to get around buying a full version of xp home? I don't want to spend $200 on the OS if I can avoid it.

View 2 Replies View Relatedi put together a system the other day after my old one totally pooped out on me. i installed the hard drive from my old system into the new one as a second hard drive, and installed xp pro onto a different hard drive (primary master) in the new system.
how can i use all my old programs that are installed on the old hard drive without confusing the heck out of xp? many of the applications on the old hdd are confused when i run them, i am guessing because when they reference files in locations where they think they should be, but they are not finding them. i don't even have enough room on the primary master drive to install all the programs, its a very small drive. nor do i have enough room to fit xp onto the second hard drive.
i'm having a serious problem with my computer, i am on my dads pc the now because my PC is trippin. Programs start up on their own and the keyboard doesnt work. I Think it is a virus or a hacker, or maybe even spyware im not sure. When i stick my system recovery disc in and at the start up but wen it asks u to press 'r' i can't even becuase the keyboard isnt responding. is their anyway i can get my PC back on track ? because i dont want to lose everything on it i have around 300gb of stuff on it.

I can boot up all programs on the start page, and run them. I can access the five "last" files in Word. I can receive and send Email. I get a baloon message on startup indicating the "you have files waiting to be written to the CD. To see them now, click the baloon". Both systems run XP plus both systems can ping by IP addr and hostname. However, when I attempt to map a network drive via the laptop, I receive a login screen, but the laptop's domain name's prepended to the login id. How do I set up a workgroup on the laptop without loosing the domain info ?
All things were fine and I had XP pro and XP home installed and working on seperate drives. I have just reinstalled XP pro and now on booting, no option to choose either operating system appears. I have done some searching and have seen references to copying a boot file from the CD and placing it into the XP home operating system to fix this. The instructions were not that detailed and not directly related to having 2 XP installs. nearly all search results I have found related to Xp dual booting with Vista. I have been thinking of now copying ALL the files from the XP Home operating system into the new XP Pro and then reinstalling the XP Home system. Sigh. I cannot use the system repair/recovery option as I do not know the Admin password. where did I put that? Is there an easy fix to get the dual boot working again?

I recently purchased a 20GB Maxtor OneTouch II USB hard drive and it came with Retrospect HD to back up my comptuer. The program will not do anyhting if i click setup so I can set it up to back up my computer. It also says ''updating status'' the whole time. Ihave left it at this screen for a long time and still nothing happened. I downloaded and installed the updrade for this from Maxtor's website, and it is still doign the same thing. Any suggestions on how to get this prgram working so I can back-up my computer?
If I use this to back-up my computer, and I use its restore feature, will I get problems on my computer that I currently have? (the main problem is with Windows Firewall, becuase i cannot enable it. My ocmptuer got infected a couple months ago and ever since is says it is controlled by Group Policy. For more detals on my problem click here I am using ZoneAlarm, but it will not work with my home network for sharing files and printers even though I have the IP address unblocked).
