I have a work laptop I'm trying to share files to a home desktop. The laptop connects to the work network using a PD and domain name. Both systems run XP plus both systems can ping by IP addr and hostname. However, when I attempt to map a network drive via the laptop, I receive a login screen, but the laptop's domain name's prepended to the login id. How do I set up a workgroup on the laptop without loosing the domain info ?
I have a work laptop running Win XP Pro that connects to my company domain, and to a company VPN. I need to be able to print documents at home, where I have a wireless/wired network (workgroup). The printer is a shared printer my home desktop PC (Win XP Home).I'm able to connect to the internet using my home network, but I can't connect to shared computers and printers. Is there any way to do this without losing access to my work domain?

However, when I try to access A shared files from B, I get a message that I "might not have permissions." I'm the admin on both machines.

of them are HP Pavilions, mine is custom built with ASUS mobo I've been through 6 different routers of 3 different brands and styles, because it SEEMS like a router issue but it simply cannot be after that many replacements.
connecting to a specific website and contacted my ISP as i was being blocked by someone and still am. I then installed a IP blocker and since have been able to connect. When i contacted the ISP they were getting me to do a heap of things with ipconfig netish ip reset and a few of ipconfig commands. Since ive done all these my home network hasnt been able to work. I have gone back into My Network and done the network wizard again and again I have also reinstalled another network card and still wont work. I have assigned IP address to all computers on the network. On all other computers you can see everyones computer with the exception of the host. The host computer cant been seen on the network and cant access any other computer as well. The internet wont work on any other computer either but the host internet works. i have another bootable HDD and booted from it and everything works fine.

I used to use the XP home netwroking to provide internet connection to my xbox 360 i used the "home or small office network" wizard and chosed the first option which says "This computer connects directly to the internet..." so it takes the internet connection from the wireless network , and provide it the xbox through the LAN connection and it was working without any problem for a long time but lately i couldn't connect to the internet in the xbox and i found that the error was in the IP address the laptop is not giving the xbox an IP address at all

I first get a blue screen error message and then a black page with options: Safe Mode- Safe mode w/ Networking- Safe Mode w/ Command Prompt. None of these work; when I select one it just cycles back to this menu. I tried Win Logo Key /r but nothing. I can get into Set-Up. The computer was acting kind of fishy before it quit; the cursor would start moving left across the screen and I couldn't control it. I would shut-down and it would be ok, until it happened again. View 16 Replies View RelatedSo i turn on my computer and it tells me one of my system32 files is currupt and so i couldnt start windows so i put in my xp cd and repair the files and after it did that...it just kept retartsting over and over....then it went to the screen where it says windows could not load properly and this maybe because of a hardware of software change. I have heard that the OS will look for tags in the mobo bios and won't install if it can't find them.If it won't work would an upgrade version of xp work. They are cheaper but need verification that you own a copy of a MS operating system, could I use the OEM xp for verification.If none of this will work is there anyother way to get around buying a full version of xp home? I don't want to spend $200 on the OS if I can avoid it.

with it and because he could not find his recovery CD at the time someone gave him a different copy of windows XP Pro which he tried to load because the serial number that he was given was incorrect it did not complete the installation.After speaking to Dell they sent him out the restore CD which loaded the XP Home Edition on which works fine but on boot up it give you the option of booting into either.

I have grown really tired of Vista and I would like to use XP for my laptop. So I used my old XP installation CD, but after I clicked "Install", a message appeared. It told me that the installation could not be done because the Windows system on the laptop (Vista) was newer than the XP on the CD. Can this be fixed in any way?

IT guy tells me that Home cannot be upgraded to Pro without doing complete (non-upgrade) install of Pro. When he chooses to shutdown it can take up to 10 minutes for it to shutdown and he is really starting to get worked up. However, when he uses it at home it shuts down right away. Can anyone suggest a posible reason for this? His laptop is a Dell with Windows xp. I will be monitoring this thread so if you need any extra info about the problem then drop me a line.
