Just bought and installed a new WinXP desktop. I am able to see my other WinXP desktop from my new computer. I used add network place but I am unable to add my NEW computer from my OLD desktop using add network place. What should I do?
View 7 RepliesMy prob is with a desktop It goes like this:1. Internet stopped working on system - noticed "search.iMesh" in address bar, with "IE cannot display the internet page" message displayed. Finally found and uninstalled iMesh stuff. 2. Now have Google back in address bar but unable to go online - even via Microsoft default.
I've tried 5 diff. dates with System Restore but no luck. So used flash pen to put ComboFix on and it shows up with "This machine does not have the Microsoft Windows recovery console installed".
computer would randomly lock up or say no signal on my monitor screen..I bought a new video card thinking that was the problem, it was not. I then had my brother look at it, people told me I had a virus from Limewire or nVidia.com and that I should do a full reformat right away, it would only do a quick one and it still didn't help it and when I tried to do a full one I would get an error that says I should put it in safe mode and disable components or something along those lines.I got a new hard drive, but then I had no mouse or internet. I installed my mother board CD. I restarted it thinking it would say new hardware found. I have reinstalled Windows and reinstalled my mother board CD, I tried my mouse on another PC and it worked fine.

View 11 Replies View RelatedI have a work laptop I'm trying to share files to a home desktop. The laptop connects to the work network using a PD and domain name. Both systems run XP plus both systems can ping by IP addr and hostname. However, when I attempt to map a network drive via the laptop, I receive a login screen, but the laptop's domain name's prepended to the login id. How do I set up a workgroup on the laptop without loosing the domain info ?
I have a Toshiba Laptop with Win XPPro. Won't boot-up to Windows. I first get a blue screen error message and then a black page with options: Safe Mode- Safe mode w/ Networking- Safe Mode w/ Command Prompt. None of these work; when I select one it just cycles back to this menu. I tried Win Logo Key /r but nothing. I can get into Set-Up. The computer was acting kind of fishy before it quit; the cursor would start moving left across the screen and I couldn't control it. I would shut-down and it would be ok, until it happened again. View 16 Replies View RelatedSo i turn on my computer and it tells me one of my system32 files is currupt and so i couldnt start windows so i put in my xp cd and repair the files and after it did that...it just kept retartsting over and over....then it went to the screen where it says windows could not load properly and this maybe because of a hardware of software change. So i tired "Start Windows Normally" and it still didnt work and now I am on "Safe Mode with Networking"
View 7 Replies View RelatedI shut off the computer and turning it back on couldn't boot up windows. It gave the windows wasn't shut down properly and I tried the normal restart option and it would just give a black screen with a blinking _ and then nothing happens. Tried loading in safe mode but it gets to mup.sys then "Press Esc to cancel SPTD.sys" flashes below and whether I press Esc or let it be, nothing happens after that.
I tried popping in the windows xp disc that came with the laptop, boot from disc, it starts up but then after loading everything, it then says "Windows is starting up" the disc stops spinning then nothing happens. I tried popping in a windows vista disc and it says "Windows is loading files" with a progress bar, when it fills up, I get stuck with a blank black screen the disc stops spinning and then nothing happens.
So i booted my t400 ibm laptop and this error message popped up as stated in the message title.My harddrive is in achi mode and i was wondering if i switch the harddrive mode and do a repair with an xp cd, will i lose any files?

View 13 Replies View RelatedI am trying to do a system restore and my system runs it all but when all is done I get a message saying that no changes have been made to my system and that the system restore was unsuccessful. The reason I am trying to restore my system is because Photoshop is suddenly unable to save as a jpeg? It doesn't recognise the jpeg format when saving and saves as a Photoshop document. THen it wont recognise the file to open it. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the program to no avail. Funnily enough photoshop elements has no problem with it.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an IBM Thinkcentre running XP sp2 that will not allow a successful connection via RDP (no problem with VNC, Dameware or attaching via UNC). I do get the login screen (and can see that I have connected to the target pc) but as soon as I click OK it bounces me back to the pc from which I launched RDP. All firewalls are off. We do not have the same problem with any other PC in our environment.

My Firefox and Explorer cant connect to the internet even though my machine can and I can ping and get replys back from web sites like Yahoo. I normally play yahoo pool so i need java sun for it too work or microsoft virtual machine, I prefer using virtual machine cause it loads easier and doesnt seem to crash. i cant install virtual machine onto my pc cause it says i have the wrong operating system for that version. java sun 5.0 is installed on my pc but not properly and wont load so i went to unistall it and get this message "error transforms, verify that the specified transform path is valid" I'm not sure what to do, I was gonna do a system restore but i cannot even find that on my pc.

I am at a friends house and one of their computers are not connecting to the internet, they have a network set up and all tha good stuff and its working fine on allt he other computers BUT hers. She recently moved her desktop from the floor to her desk to get it away from the pet hair, and i made sure the wires are all in good condition and plugged in correctly. View 6 Replies View RelatedI am running a PC clone, Win XP SP3. It is using a wired connection to a router. Yesterday, out of no where, I lost connection to the internet. No browsers, Trillian, nothing that uses the internet works. I tried running a virus scan, malware scan and found nothing. I tried doing a system restore and it seemed to work, for a brief moment I had the internet again. Then, once more, it stopped working.
Right now, the current speculation is that the onboard network connection is dying. What I'm trying to find out, is if that is possible or not. I'm not worried about having to buy a card - they're cheap. I am worried about buying a new card and it not fixing the problem.Are there other things that can cause this to happen that I can/should look into first?
I have a friend who has a pentium 2 350 which is currently running on Windows 98SE...yikes!My friend has been complaining that their computer has been running slow and that pop ups are appearing everywhere. I told them that it sounds like their computer has been hijacked and that I would recommend that they format their computer and start from fresh.I want to format their computer and install a newer windows OS (perhaps windows xp) and install a couple of spyware/antivirus programs.

I play lots of games online and so on. things were fine and then one day i recieved this error while trying to play 'halo' online. 'An error has occurred while trying to contact the gamespy master server'. after messing around with halo for a while i tried other games; doom3, quake3, counter strike and so on, but all with the same effect, i couldnt connect to a server. This was also the case when i tried to update Ad-aware, it freezes when i try to update. Yes I am connecting the phone line properly because it works on my sony vaio laptop also when I connect online.i am able to connect on the vaio but not on the toshiba. It keeps telling me there is no dial tone. what is the meaning of this. one last question. On the toshiba laptop there is a blue line running from the top to the bottom of the screen. View 7 Replies View RelatedI waited way too long between defrags on my daughter's computer and now when I go into defrag it, it just goes to 1% and stops. The system doesn't hang or freeze, the defragging process just never goes beyond 1%.Her system runs XP Pro 1.73 Ghz. Not sure if this matters but she also has Panda Titanium virus/spyware. I've disabled the Panda while running defrag and this did not make a difference. But I've checked for spyware using Spybot and Adaware as well. No spyware or viruses were found. I was just wondering if there was a program besides the defrag that comes with Microsoft to use to defrag the machine or a work around.
