KaZaA, one of the most famous P2P programs tends to hog the processor, this results in the termination of the program after few seconds. This tweak can be used on systems that have the above mentioned problem. Here it is...1. Download and install KaZaA.2. Right-click on the shortcut of the program and click on "Run as...", this will prompt you to select a user to run the progam as..do not forget to select the "Protect my computer and data from unauthorized program activity".3. Click OK and everything is back to normal..happy downloading!!Here is a final note on what I just discovered..you cannot change the options while running in the protected mode..so just run it in the normal mode, I mean the mode that hogs your CPU...change the necessary options and close down before KaZaA terminates...this should do the trick!Cheers!

I've noticed a lot of tweaks involving the removal of ads using this program. I found this version on the net that is tweaked so that the only thing you can do with it is all you ever do with it: search, download, etc.you can find this version here: http://www.refosearch.tkthis version also allows results > 128kbit
I dl kazaa a couple of yrs ago & when I uninstalled it altnet stayed behind. I tried ad-aware, spybot search & destroy, a registered version of trend micro anti-spyware & even tried going to the registry to delete. Nothing works.
I recently had to do a recovery that refreshed the Windows files. The only problem is that even though all the previously installed programs are still in the Program files, Windows does not know they are there. If I click on Start and then go to all programs, they do not show up on that list nor do they show up if I go to Add/Remove programs. Is there a way to fix this without having to reinstall all the programs?
I'm having some problems with my new pc and someone recommended that I should try a 7-pass erase on my HDD because just normal reformatting doesn't seem to be helping so I was wondering if anyone could explain to me how to perfom a 7-pass erase on a HDD with XP Pro.
I have two almost identical (one of them has only 40Gb drive) Dell 8400 computers that worked very well together networked till yesterday. Both of them have same OS version including updates.I had to do a PC restore on computer A and since then Computer B doesn't recognize computer A. I went through Network Wizard, made sure the computer names are unique and the workgroup name is identical on both machines. Computer B doesn't even show local shared directories anymore.Computer A finds computer B without any problems.BTW, Computer B works fine otherwise; I can access Internet, a network drive without any problems. I did hardware ping test and board test and they all pass.
I couldn't install sp2, because of a problem I don't know... so it indicated that I had to download it again, but I could only download it by erasing it. It all came wrong! I erased a file that restarted the computer and I had to restore the system. Now I have a computer that does not allow to me be in the internet, because it restarts itself while Im'm navigating.... it also appears a message of corrupt registry that had never appeared before, but if I install messenger
i got a series of really bad viral infection on my computer. My virus programs took care of the viruses but also deleted some of the start up software that is used to boot up my computer correctly. as a last ditch effort I used the system restore function on my computer to reboot it back to a previous configeration. The computer booted back to its original out of the box configuration and I lost all my computer files (but on the flip side my computer was working perfectly now that this was done)
I take the computer to the repair shop so that they can do a deep memory scan to recover my files. They find some of the files and put them in a file folder located on my desktop. i am told by the techie working on my computer that there is a series of .dll errors at the start of windows and that they are the result of a viral infection (Obviously the system restore i did did not do its job of ridding me of the viruses. I did not notice the .dll errors when i initially did the system restore, but that doesn't mean that they weren't there)
Tired of all the ads at the bottom of Kazaa, not to mention the ads Kazaa causes to pop up? Here is a tweak to end all Kazaa related ads. 1. With KaZaA closed navigate to C:WindowsSystem32AdCache 2. Delete all files within 'AdCache', leave the 'Temp' folder but make sure it is empty 3. Right click on the folder 'AdCache' & select properties 4. Navigate to the Security tab 5. In the group or user name box, select administrator, or the appropriate user (anyone who runs kazaa) 6. In the permissions box deny write access 7. Repeat for all necessary users and click 'OK' problem solved
I lost my system recovery disc. I also lost all of my games that came with windows...free cell, solitaire, paint..etc. I just want those back. Can I run a system recovery program on windows without a disc
KaZaA limits your searches to a bitrate, to enable higher bitrate searches, and even more results, just do this:1) Start > Run, regedit2) go to:HKEY_CURRENT _USERSoftwareKazaachange:LimitBitrate from 1 to 0
I need to do a System Recovery to restore my system back to its factory settings (I'm using WinXP Home). When I hit F10 upon startup in order to access the system recovery, nothing happens- it boots as it would regularly. I was able to boot up using the CD, and am now in the System Recovery console. Might anyone tell me what I need to do to perform a non-destructive, or even a destrucitve system recovery?
Just bought and installed a new WinXP desktop. I am able to see my other WinXP desktop from my new computer. I used add network place but I am unable to add my NEW computer from my OLD desktop using add network place. What should I do?
I was trying to back-up a file to CD using the CD Writer on my computer when I kept getting the message: The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error. Does anyone know what this means and how I can correct this situation?
alrighty, here's what's happening. theres a folder with a ton of music in it that I created for the sole purpose of gathering it all in one place. now, when you rollover the folder icon, double click it, explore it, search it, open it, etc, you get the send/dont-send windows error and explorer crashes and restarts when you click dont-send.
Had problems with virus, couldnt update Virus or Malware Protection. I did full shred System Recovery from partition ( HP- A1130N -Windows Media Edition- Version 2002 Service Pack 2. Dowloaded AVG Virus and ran scan, all OK.Went to MS Dowload center and downloaded and installed 87updates to include IE8,started computer, all OK. Then updater said needed to download SVC Pack 3- took a loooooooooooooong time. THEN COMPUTER WOULDNT START- tried the two options it gave me but no go back to same black screen with boot options-- regualar- last working point- safe mode etc. no go. I tried to do a System Recovery today on my Sony laptop. Got 41% completed and had a fatal error. Options given were Ignore, Retry or Abort. Attempted a Retry. Got a fatal error message and everything locked up. I ended up shutting down and when I turned the computer on again it said no operating system found. Where did I screw up?
This is a six year old Sony, XP, AMD 1.0Ghz. Everything was working at the time I tried the System Recovery EXCEPT I was constantly getting low space messages for drive C. I have no files on this drive and very little software. It is a 20G hard drive partioned into two 10G partitions.
I'm running Windows XP SP3 with everything up to date as far as I know. I have the complete set of my PC's OEM Disks that I've used once when my OS was completely messed up, had Geeks Rescue out and they couldn't figure out what was wrong, so I know what they are for. What I'm not understanding are the several tools I'm afraid to open listed in my "Start"/"All Programs" I have both "Compaq"/"Compaq Presario PC Tools" with "Compaq Application Recovery"/"Compaq Recovery CD-DVD Creator"/"Compaq Recovery Tools CD"/"Compaq Support Information"/"Compaq System Recovery"/"Remote Assistance"/"Safety and Comfort Guide"
i just performed a complete system recovery. started the computer, installed windows xp sp2 and sp3, went to the microsoft download center to get my updates and also got all my extras like, java, flash player, shockwave and direct x among many other updates. i also scan my computer with secunia just to make sure i had everything installed on my pc. i started noticing that my computer was working kinda slow.
I feel like I went back to a pentinum 1 486mh and 16 mb of ram....... I cant figure out what is wrong with my comp. I have run virus scan, spywear scan, done a defrag, and every thing is fine. There is nothing in the startup menu on msconfig screen. but yet my comp takes like 3 mins to restart. getting on the internet with Road Runner takes like 5 mins.
I mistakenly installed the drivers for a CM Audio sound card to my Windows XP Professional computer. Although the uninstallation seems to go OK from the screen messages, there is still an entry in the 'Program list' in Control Panel - I guess I can remove this using Tweak UI?More of a problem is that , after attempting uninstallation, I receive an error message on start up "Cannot find cmicnfg.cpl" which I understand to be a Control Panel problem.By using Everest I have identified the offending item and this is produced above.
I have an IBM Thinkcentre running XP sp2 that will not allow a successful connection via RDP (no problem with VNC, Dameware or attaching via UNC). I do get the login screen (and can see that I have connected to the target pc) but as soon as I click OK it bounces me back to the pc from which I launched RDP. All firewalls are off. We do not have the same problem with any other PC in our environment.
I Recently Had My Computer Rebuilt And Went From Dial Up To Verizon Dsl. Loved The Speed For Awhile. 512 Memory Was Added. Now It It's Running Slower. I Did Add Spybot, A New Usb 2.0 Port, And Several Other Programs. I Have About 20 Icons On My Desktop. Will Any Of This Cause The Slowing Down Of Programs, Getting E Mail, Or Surfing The Internet? You Guys Were Great Last Time About Solving My Usb Port Problem.
I found this little trick out when changing the setting on booth Kazaa and imesh. This tweak alows you to search for files on the KaZaA p2p application and download them on the more stable and faster imesh server this is how it is done1. Create a new folder in My Documents called "Imesh And Kazaa"2. Open KaZaA3. Click Tools then Options4. Click on Traffic5. The where it says "Folder for downloaded file" put it in the "C:/My Documents/imesh and kazaa" folder6.
Close KaZaA7. Open Imesh8. Click on "Preferences" then "options"9. then click on "Locations"10. Then click on "Change" and make it the "imesh and kazaa" folder you created earlyer.11. Close iMeshnow to search for files on kazaa and download them on imesh this is what you have to do1. Open Kazaa2. Search for the file you want3. Start the download4. Close kazaa5. Open imesh6. then if you click on the download icon you will notice that the download is also thereSUBNOTE:
I have been gone for a while but am back with a new challenge. My Firefox and Explorer cant connect to the internet even though my machine can and I can ping and get replys back from web sites like Yahoo. Let me recap: I have had a Thinkpad T60 for a year with 1GB running XP2 Home edition. After adding a number of programs over the years the startup and shutdown time are long. Yesterday I used a 3rd party program (XBlock) to go in and turn off some programs that startup automatically. They were mostly obvious ones - like an hp officejet startup. After the changes (but before a reboot)
I tryed unistallin kazaa but it brought up pop ups the pop up on top showed up first when i hit ok this the bottom one showed up...and i did as the 2nd one told me but nothin.
In order to sucessfully remove lock KaZaA out of its AdCache as described in 'Remove Ads from KaZaA' you must first DISABLE simple file sharing in order to display the necessary security tabs. In XP Home you'll have to boot into safe mode to an administrator account.
