i have a hp laptop and for some reason my usb ports aren't working, in device manager it says that they are working fine but it wont read the printer or a camera or anything, so i figured that maybe i have to update windows, so i try and do that and it says Validation Failure: Product Key Failed Validation, so what should i do?
View 2 RepliesWhen I start up my computer it will not respond to anything that has to do with my keyboard and mouse. I couldn't figure out why, I mean they came with my computer. The mouse is not even optical and it has a cord. I tried booting into safemode but since the keyboard doesn't work I couldn't. I tried booting from a disk but I have to be able to press any key to be able to do that. I couldn't log onto the accounts because that requires both a mouse and a keyboard. I tried using a different and keyboard that plug into the same ports, which resulted in the same thing. So I used a keyboard for a playstation 2 because it uses USB and I used a mouse I found that hooks up to USB as well. They work fine. However, I want the PS/2 ports to work because I better things to be taking up my usb ports.

It's always said that... and my mouse lights up and my key board lights up fine... but when I press F1 and it goes to the Windows loading screen, the lights powers off and the keyboard doesn't work.. and I can't use my mouse or keyboard when it reaches my login screen.

When I go to the device manager, it's telling me that no audio device is installed and I can't seem to find it or how to reinstall it (I do not have the disk that came with the computer). However, my main concerns are the USB ports and the Plug and Play feature. These were working fine, but now nothing happens when I plug in a USB device. There is power going to the USB ports, however, the system doesn't seem to recognize that I have plugged something in. I've tried uninstalling the drivers and restarting the system, and the drivers were correctly reinstalled but it is still not finding any new device that I plug in. System restore isn't working either.

I also changed the operating system that is from vista to XP but the problem persisted. It did not stop on that only, the DVD-ROM also failed to read DVDs.

When today I tried to update my copy of Windows using Microsoft update service the Genuine Windows Validation program told me I'm using an illegal version of MS Windows, I've tried to reactivate my copy of OS by changing registry key and running But when I entered the OEM license number (as per HP OEM sticker) and attempted to activate, I was politely informed that the key number was mistyped (message number 45128) and invalid, yet the activation works when I'm not change serial key, The guys from HP customer support say it is Microsoft's problem.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI just purchased a Win XP Pro OS from a local PC retail store and I installed it on my machine.Everything went by plan.After everything was done.I restart my computer and in the middle of the boot-up I get this message.Setup failed to install the product catalog (Fatal error). And another try to boot it up I get message Error Signature for WinXP Pro is invalid. The third time I get the first message again.I ran the setup disk again maybe I did something wrong No same thin again.Any cure for that?Any repairs possible? Any download from microsoft to solve the problem?

The copy of windows was legitimately installed by the Tertiary Institution the laptop was purchased from. Some time after I purchased it, I did an update, it came up with Failure to Pass Validation warning. I rang Microsoft and the Techncian who was sympathetic to my cause, told me how to remove this validation warning which I did. A couple of years later, again after an update the same warning that it failed validation. again I rang Microsoft and re-explained to the representative. He told me, it (the validation failure warning ) couldn't be removed from Service pack 2, This is NOT correct as the first technician told me how to do just that. As I bought the laptop in good faith I feel Microsoft has invaded my computer and installed a spam message on it. Any ideas how to remove it?

View 11 Replies View Relatedwhen I try to start puter first the mouse dont work any more. I had a Logitech MX 510. IT lights up but wont work. Installed a Radio shack mouse worked for a little it. Then it shuts down too. I try to start computer and tap on F8 key or DEL key sometimes it works an sometimes not if it works I am good for a little bit. 15min to 30 min then lock up. If i get into safe mode its ok until about the same 15min to 30 min. If F8 and DEL keys dont work It starts the process and then gets to floppy disk and fails. It say Floppy Disk Fail (40). I have checked and the fans are working and thats not a problem Hard drives work and 1.5 GB ram and thats ok too. So stumped and wondering if I can fix it or not.

After a marathon problem with Windows not booting, I did a clean install on another hard drive. Now, one of my PCMIA ports (on the side of my IBM A31 Type 2652 laptop) doesn't work. Both were working fine prior to my boot problems and subsequent reinstall. One port still works, but I need to be able to use both for 1. a wireless card and 2. a USB 1.1 to 2.0 conversion card that I use when I print, etc. I've done Windows troubleshooting for drivers, etc., but Windows (as usual) found no problem.
We have Levine/Young The Complete Reference-Windows XP. Reading through before I did the clean install, I noticed a mention that sometimes this happens when XP is reinstalled, but there is no solution to the problem mentioned. I'm at a loss to getting both ports to work. I need a solution before the weekend is over.
I have a set of USB ports on the front of my machine and another set on the back. My ports on the back work fine and if i plug in my 2 pen drives in it works OK. But if I plug them in the front I get the error

The ports on the front work OK with my digital camera and joystick and my pen drive works on every other machine that I have put it in.
I had to format the hard drive and reload XP SP2.Seems to be working fine.But, my USB ports don't work. Do I have a driver problem, and if so, what is the fix.

For some reason the two USB ports have stopped working and no USB devices are recognised. I have looked at the device manager under USB controllers and there are four USB controllers listed which are as follows: Intel 82801DB/DBM USB 2.0 enhanced host controller 24CDIntel 82801DB/DBM USB universal host controller 24C2Intel 82801DB/DBM USB universal host controller 24C4Intel 82801DB/DBM USB universal host controller 24C7 Underneath those are four USB root hubs.
I have previously used a USB card reader and external hard drive on both ports without any problems but now when I connect any device nothing at all happens.

It worked fine, until I got back home to try to log onto my own wireless router again. Now, the local area connection icon down in the right lower corner of the screen keeps saying "acquiring new IP address," but it never actually does. When I check the properties it keeps listing 100.00 mbps (I believe) with the IP address being 00.00.00. It won't move beyond this.
