After a marathon problem with Windows not booting, I did a clean install on another hard drive. Now, one of my PCMIA ports (on the side of my IBM A31 Type 2652 laptop) doesn't work. Both were working fine prior to my boot problems and subsequent reinstall. One port still works, but I need to be able to use both for 1. a wireless card and 2. a USB 1.1 to 2.0 conversion card that I use when I print, etc. I've done Windows troubleshooting for drivers, etc., but Windows (as usual) found no problem.
We have Levine/Young The Complete Reference-Windows XP. Reading through before I did the clean install, I noticed a mention that sometimes this happens when XP is reinstalled, but there is no solution to the problem mentioned. I'm at a loss to getting both ports to work. I need a solution before the weekend is over.
I just did a fresh install of XP on my new PC and now, for some reason there is no sound coming out of the speakers. It worked before I did the reinstall. The digital sound is built into the Gigabyte mobo and I made sure I reloaded the drivers. Everything looks okay in the Device Manager. I've looked at everything I can think of, but I can't get the sound to work. When I plug in my USB headphones, they work fine. I keep thinking it's something simple I'm missing.
A few weeks ago, I received a blue screen of death that would not get off my computer. I had the Windows Antivirus Pro Virus that would not go away. I am going to school tomororw and needed this off my computer. So I decided to wipe the hard drive clean with the Dell CDs that came with this purchase. I downloaded Windows XP and some of the drivers. Some of the drivers that i tried to download say they downloaded but then do not come up. Broadcom440x10/100 is saying the network cable is unplugged, I have no idea what that means and internet will not work. What can I do manually to make this work?
Couple weeks ago my friends computer got blue screen error message and we called Dell and they sent us a DVD: Operating System - Reinstallation DVD Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Version 2005 with Update Rollup 2. With one of user help i was able to reinstall Windows from DVD. I can not connect to internet through cable. or I can not turn the wireless adapter on ( F2 button) Or when i try to play sample music with Media Player it gives an error message - Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There might not be a sound device installed on your computer, it might be in use by another program, or it might not be functioning properly.
I was having a lot of troubles with XP PRO after a CPU failure, when I tried to do an XP installation Repair. It failed miserably and after a month of posting and searching for answers, I threw in the towel. I reformatted the HD and did a clean install. On the advice of a MS Tech, I downloaded SP3 and installed it first thing. After I got everything up and running with all the updates, I discovered that XP no longer recognizes my USB ports as USB2. I found some original drivers on the Motherboard installation disk, but it will not allow me to install them because my XP SP2 install disk is already supposed to have them. I tried removing all the USB drivers and forcing XP to figure it out, but no luck. It is an ASUS P5GD2 Deluxe with a P4 processer and an XP PRO SP3 Operating System.
I found that i couldnt go to: start-"all programs" and have it work. when clicking all programs it does nothing. then, i remembered a dvd triedinstalling "hot llama" and it was stopped in the middle. I think that may be the issue, tried to do system restore and that wont restore to any date.
Literally every single time I try to use it it doesnt work. always says restortion incomplete. I have it set to use the max disk space. I even tried formatting the hd, reinstalling windows, and then the I tried using it and it didnt even work then.
I cannot create a system restore point, nor is System Retore creating any automatically. I tried rebooting my system, using the check/uncheck box in system properties, using the "Run" line, and trying to run System Restore in Safe Mode. I also tried copying the "framedyn.dll" from the windowssystem32wbem directory to the Windowssystem 32 directory (I don't know if it's supposed to be there or not. The only option I have left that I know of is to reinstall Windows XP.
My computer has several problems. The most serious is not being able to get Windows XP to load.I have tried booting in safe mode (F8) but I keep getting an error screen. I installed a game on the computer today that apparent has caused this problem. Any advice on how I can boot to safe mode to remove the program and do a system restore would be appreciated.
I want to reinstall windows, I have my restoration CD, problem is that the cd driver of my laptop doesnt work, so I got an USB external one. I can use it perfectly during in wndows, but when I intend to use it to boot, it just doesn't happen and continues booting windows from the hard drive.
Since I've formatted my computer, it started being slow and I don't know why. Do you have any tool that would help diagnostic the cause of my problem? My USB ports do not work either.
have just reinstalled windows xp and 3 of my usb ports wont work there is power going to it as when i plug my web cam in the light appears on it looked in device manager and says all ok and all enabled and drivers are ok is there any other settings that maybe block ports thanks dan
after a few hours my computer slows down and then freezes. The internet and the network interface also doesnt work, meaning I can't ping 127.0.0.1 but for some reason the email still works. When I ping localhost I get a request timed out error. When I try to go to a site an alert pops up in firefox thatthe document contains no data and in IE it simply says server can't be found. I have run spybot, norton, avast, and updated the network card's drivers. I think that the problem with eventually freezing is nortons active protect process which seems to always run at 75% plus.
I have had a slightly annoying problem with Outlook Express which I use as my default mail client. Everything seems to work fine apart from when I try to open PDF files directly from OE, it tries to open them with notepad, which obviously doesn't work. I can save them anywhere else on my computer, my documents for example, and opening them from there works fine. I have the latest Adobe Reader. I can't find anyway to tell OE to open these attachments using Adobe Reader.
i havent put my computer on standby in a while but last week when i went to start>>turn off computer>>standby, the computer wouldn't wake up from it. the monitor's LED kept flashing green indicating the computer's still sleeping. tried pressing the power button but doesn't work. i have to reset the computer everytime i put it on standby.
a while ago something went wrong with my computer im not sure if its spyware or just something changed my settings. I use Spybot S&D and Ad-aware and Norton Antivirus and have completed scans for all of them. The context menu (right click) does not work on files in Windows Explorer or on the desktop, but works in Start menu, web browser, etc. Also I cannot access Properties for files. I have tried going through File >> Properties, but the Properties box never appears after I have clicked the link.At the same time of this problem my system restore suddenly disabled itself and will not let me enable it (System restore encountered problems trying to enable/disable system restore on one of your drives. Please restart your machine and try again).I have logged on in a different account and the context menu and properties work, so it only seems to be in my account.
using win xp pro. just upgraded it from win 98. now my printer that is plugged into the usb will not work......(print) power is on!!.web cam wont work either. windows does not pick up the new devices , put drivers on for camera and it says no camera plugged in! older system.. i think p2 399 mhz 128mb sdr ram.
When I start up my computer it will not respond to anything that has to do with my keyboard and mouse. I couldn't figure out why, I mean they came with my computer. The mouse is not even optical and it has a cord. I tried booting into safemode but since the keyboard doesn't work I couldn't. I tried booting from a disk but I have to be able to press any key to be able to do that. I couldn't log onto the accounts because that requires both a mouse and a keyboard. I tried using a different and keyboard that plug into the same ports, which resulted in the same thing. So I used a keyboard for a playstation 2 because it uses USB and I used a mouse I found that hooks up to USB as well. They work fine. However, I want the PS/2 ports to work because I better things to be taking up my usb ports.
My computer doesn't recognize USB ports upon startup. When I turn it on, it says Floppy diskette seek failure, and I have to press F1 to continue or F2. It's always said that... and my mouse lights up and my key board lights up fine... but when I press F1 and it goes to the Windows loading screen, the lights powers off and the keyboard doesn't work.. and I can't use my mouse or keyboard when it reaches my login screen.
I have a set of USB ports on the front of my machine and another set on the back. My ports on the back work fine and if i plug in my 2 pen drives in it works OK. But if I plug them in the front I get the error
This device cannot start. (Code 10)
The ports on the front work OK with my digital camera and joystick and my pen drive works on every other machine that I have put it in.
I have a Toshiba laptop satellite series A205-S5814.the time i bought it the USB ports were working but after a period of a year they are no longer working I updated the drivers but still now. I also changed the operating system that is from vista to XP but the problem persisted. It did not stop on that only, the DVD-ROM also failed to read DVDs.
After a recent automatic software update, the sound on my computer stopped working. When I go to the device manager, it's telling me that no audio device is installed and I can't seem to find it or how to reinstall it (I do not have the disk that came with the computer). However, my main concerns are the USB ports and the Plug and Play feature. These were working fine, but now nothing happens when I plug in a USB device. There is power going to the USB ports, however, the system doesn't seem to recognize that I have plugged something in. I've tried uninstalling the drivers and restarting the system, and the drivers were correctly reinstalled but it is still not finding any new device that I plug in. System restore isn't working either.
I had to format the hard drive and reload XP SP2.Seems to be working fine. But, my USB ports don't work. Do I have a driver problem, and if so, what is the fix.
i've redownloaded NCARB Software (free program developed by ETS for testing candidates to receive architectural license).I reinstalled and it doesn't work. something about it being corrupt. originally, i had a message about the AUTOEXEC.NT file in the C:/ Windows/System32 folder. And it changed my error. Now I get a message from InstallShield. It says: "InstallShield Self-Extracting Exe This file is not the correct size, or is corrupt, and is unsable. OK"
i have a hp laptop and for some reason my usb ports aren't working, in device manager it says that they are working fine but it wont read the printer or a camera or anything, so i figured that maybe i have to update windows, so i try and do that and it says Validation Failure: Product Key Failed Validation, so what should i do?
A family members sony vaio will not boot up, the computer doesnt load windows XP (The windows XP loading screen appears but will then goes blank and reboots automatically.) When the computer first turns on a blank screen appears with text saying "we're sorry for the inconvienice, etc..." then has a 30 second timer for which option i would like to choose. These are my options below (which none work). It doesnt work on Safe Mode, Safe Mode (Networking), Safe Mode (Command Prompt) or even the "last known to work configurations". Im totally lost on what i can do from here. I need assistence people!!
I recently had to reformat and reinstall windows xp due to a virus, which i have done several times before, but not on this computer (bought it refurbished less than a year ago), and have never had a problem doing so..But this time, when I reinstalled windows, on start-up my (hi-speed) internet connection didnt work (no icon on bottom right bar), same with my sound card (also no icon).
I have done a fresh install of windows xp on my acer aspire revo r1600 and I have installed the modem driver over and over. But the ethernet adapter won't show up in network connections. I can't get internet on the computer. I have tried everything.
