I have a set of USB ports on the front of my machine and another set on the back. My ports on the back work fine and if i plug in my 2 pen drives in it works OK. But if I plug them in the front I get the error
This device cannot start. (Code 10)
The ports on the front work OK with my digital camera and joystick and my pen drive works on every other machine that I have put it in.
Since I've formatted my computer, it started being slow and I don't know why. Do you have any tool that would help diagnostic the cause of my problem? My USB ports do not work either.

View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I start up my computer it will not respond to anything that has to do with my keyboard and mouse. I couldn't figure out why, I mean they came with my computer. The mouse is not even optical and it has a cord. I tried booting into safemode but since the keyboard doesn't work I couldn't. I tried booting from a disk but I have to be able to press any key to be able to do that. I couldn't log onto the accounts because that requires both a mouse and a keyboard. I tried using a different and keyboard that plug into the same ports, which resulted in the same thing. So I used a keyboard for a playstation 2 because it uses USB and I used a mouse I found that hooks up to USB as well. They work fine. However, I want the PS/2 ports to work because I better things to be taking up my usb ports.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy computer doesn't recognize USB ports upon startup. When I turn it on, it says Floppy diskette seek failure, and I have to press F1 to continue or F2. It's always said that... and my mouse lights up and my key board lights up fine... but when I press F1 and it goes to the Windows loading screen, the lights powers off and the keyboard doesn't work.. and I can't use my mouse or keyboard when it reaches my login screen.

Now, one of my PCMIA ports (on the side of my IBM A31 Type 2652 laptop) doesn't work. Both were working fine prior to my boot problems and subsequent reinstall. One port still works, but I need to be able to use both for 1. a wireless card and 2. a USB 1.1 to 2.0 conversion card that I use when I print, etc. I've done Windows troubleshooting for drivers, etc., but Windows (as usual) found no problem.
We have Levine/Young The Complete Reference-Windows XP. Reading through before I did the clean install, I noticed a mention that sometimes this happens when XP is reinstalled, but there is no solution to the problem mentioned. I'm at a loss to getting both ports to work. I need a solution before the weekend is over.
I have a Toshiba laptop satellite series A205-S5814.the time i bought it the USB ports were working but after a period of a year they are no longer working I updated the drivers but still now. I also changed the operating system that is from vista to XP but the problem persisted. It did not stop on that only, the DVD-ROM also failed to read DVDs.

When I go to the device manager, it's telling me that no audio device is installed and I can't seem to find it or how to reinstall it (I do not have the disk that came with the computer). However, my main concerns are the USB ports and the Plug and Play feature. These were working fine, but now nothing happens when I plug in a USB device. There is power going to the USB ports, however, the system doesn't seem to recognize that I have plugged something in. I've tried uninstalling the drivers and restarting the system, and the drivers were correctly reinstalled but it is still not finding any new device that I plug in. System restore isn't working either.

View 2 Replies View Relatedi'm using window's xp. whenever i start my i-tunes program, i get an error message telling me "i-tunes has detected a problem with your audio configuration. audio/video lpayback may not work properly." at this point, i no songs will play, and the sound doesn't come through the speakers when i'm watching any videos on the web either. View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a MITSUMI CD-ROM FX54++M and a CR-48XCTE drives.they stopped working, and under device manager it says this for both: "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)" Im pritty sure that the reason for this was when i was installing quicktime 7 with itunes and it prompted me if i wished to change windows so that every time i put in a cd it would auto-run the cd, because after i rebooted they stopped working. If i uninstall the drives windows still detects them, and the drives work physically. I have changed autorun back to 0 in regedit but that has changed nothing, and when i tried to install the driver for the CD-R drive it says it cannot detect any drive. I also did a system restore and the drives still do not work
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have recently upgraded from XP Home to XP Pro and notice that my CD-ROM and DVD R+W drives don't work. They are recognised in the device manager but not in My Computer. They cannot read any type of media and seem to crash my system. I have tried upgrading each firmware, checking cables, reinstalling drivers but still no luck. I have noticed that in the bootlog it states that several drivers did not load including pciide.sys and not sure if this may be one of the problems.

I am on a laptop and whenever I disconnect from my dock (wired connection)it automatically closes any open folders connected to a network drive.My wireless kicks in a few seconds later, and I have to go through the trouble reopening them all!Is there a registry setting I can set to prevent this?If I turn the PC on outside of work, it doesn't connect these drives, and thus will prevent them from showing even when I go in and connect to the network. I have to connect them MANUALLY every time.

So I'm using my a8n-sli premium motherboard and have been just using 1 sata hard drive using Windows XP for about a year. I bought a second sata hard drive last week and installed Vista on it.I just can't figure out the correct boot.ini for this to work,I get an missing NTLD message, when I try to boot from Vista, but the XP one works with that configuration.I can boot off the Vista one fine if I set it in the bios boot order to come up before the XP hard drive, so the drive and the OS are fine
View 3 Replies View RelatedI upgraded my video card drivers (latest nvidia geforce drivers), and restarted. Everything seemed to be fine. I tried to boot up Madden 2007 which I'd just gotten this weekend and had no problems with... until today. It wouldn't start up, seemingly frozen while trying to start... finally after waiting a few minutes I task manger/ended the program, or tried to. XP seemed to freeze up... I finally got tired of waiting and decided to hit the restart button, but accidentally put it into standby mode instead. I couldn't get it out of standby mode and at that point had to power down and turn the pc back on.
Ever since then, it's been taking longer to boot up, and the worst part is that the cd and dvd drives don't seem to work properly.
Is there any way I can be given a choice of which Hard Drive I can startup on when I turn on my computer if I put 2 individual Hard drives in it?If there is, I will purchase another copy of XP but I need to know before going to the expense of buying another XP operating system.

I used to have Nero and other programs like Jukebox, which I have uninstalled, but they still appear on this list as options, although they have no icon and do not work. How can I modify this list to remove the defunct programs? How can I have it not appear at all or run a defualt program automatically?

When I right click Play or double-click my D and/or E drives after inserting a cd or dvd, I get the message "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Folder Options control panel." I have tried several things already including running a thorough cleaning, fixes recommended on the Web including one here and NOTHING works. I cannot burn cds either. Hope someone can help me. I am pretty savvy at following the instructions, even if it includes going into the registry.

Neither drive will recognize that there is a empty disk in the drive. I've tried different media and various makes of CD's and DVD.'s. I can burn a disk in the Cd/DVD
drive using "Nero". And both drives will open if there is data, music, or pictures on the disk in either drive, but I cannot open a blank empty disk unless it is in conjunction with something I'm doing with Nero.
There are no yelow symbols in device manager. And I have uninstalled both IDE channels that the optical drive is on and on reboot win 2000 reinstalled them automatically. I have updated the firm ware for each drive. Replaced the USB cable for the external drive and before I reloaded the updated firm ware I uninstalled both drives and reinstalled with the updated firmware. My three malware/spyware
programs have been run as has both of my virus programs.
I have a Gateway GT5032, Athlon X2 4200+ w/ 1GB RAM, 80GB (system) & 250GB HDs running WinXP MCE 2005. I was using the PC to open Nero VisionExpress while I was opening an edited DVR-MS (~1GB) movie when the movie became very choppy till it froze (Nero took a while to load as well). After waiting several minutes I end tasked the movie and continued to have a slow response time from the PC. It returned to normal speed, then I would try opening the movie (using Windows Media Player) and the movie was still choppy till it stalled. I eventually restarted the PC...I noticed that it took a LONG time to boot WinXP and would ''stall'' every 5 seconds for about 2 seconds. During bootup it reported that an error was in C:Windowssystem32Rasapi32.dll, but it did boot into Windows and all.
I rebooted in hopes of fixing the problem, but then the PC had trouble recognizing drives. After being shut off for about 10 minutes, the BIOS recognizes all drives again but reports an MBR error on boot up and will not even load Windows. I'm assuming that MBR is the Master Boot Record...and that scares me a lot. I am wandering if there is any easy way to repair this problem. And also if the MBR is indeed damaged, could it also have harmed my other files on the HD (such as Rasapi32.dll)? What is the function of Rasapi32.dll. I don't suspect a virus as I was not running any suspicious files lately.
Everything has been fine with my 3 and a half year old ADVENT PC, and I've been successful in upgrading parts such as DVD Drives, adding extra RAM and installing my new graphics card.However, in the past few days, when I boot up my PC, it stops at what I believe the DOS screen (part with BOOT FROM CD etc.) and will say A Disk Read Error Occurred. Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete to restart. This happens 2/3 of the times I turn on the PC.Also, if I do press Ctrl+Alt+Delete and the PC restart, it is normally successful, and will boot up Windows perfectly. Just this morning, it gave me the error, and with 2 Ctrl+Alt+Delete restarts, it's working perfectly, hence I can type this.

It's really a problem now, because I can't just not back my stuff up forever, I have to get this sorted out.I have a PC that I keep all my stuff on, run uTorrent on, my media center application, etc. It's got 8 HDDs. Half for storage, half for backup. 5TB overall (well less...but you know). I have an application that runs once a day to sync the drives with their counterparts. Everything was fine, until I got a new motherboard and CPU for the system.Now.....whenever I run my backups, this message will appear. Either very rapidly, or at some point during. The whole system will slow to a near halt (it can take 30 seconds for the mouse to register movement), and the only course of action is to turn the system off and on again. It's because of this Delayed Write Failed error (it pops up, sometimes immediately....and sometimes if you let the system keep running).
I've looked online for solutions. Some of them say to disable delayed write in the HDD properties. I've done that for most drives (the drives connected to the system via a PCI-E controller card have that tick box option greyed out. Nothing I've tried has made a blind bit of difference.
i have three hard drives : 1 Hitachi 250 GB Sata 2 on Nvidia Controller 2 Samsung 80 GB Sata in RAID O on Silicon Controller 1. the problem is when i boot into windows the LAN connection (two small monitors in the taskbar) takes atleast 10 minutes to show !! and theother problem is that until tht two monitors dnt appear i dnt get any reply frm right clicking any of the drives to see their properties and frm My Computer too, but as soon as the two small monitors come all the properties just pop up.
2. Sometimes suddenly in between Windows shows Write Delayed Failed Error only on the Raid Drives and i cnt access them afterwards,restarting solves the problem tho but jst for sumtime.
In a not updated Version of Windows XP you can run (Start-run) "start"command at the Run dialog just typing it, when you update windows andwrite the same "start" into Run dialog Windows shows a error message >Windows cannot find `start`. Make sure you typed the name correctly,and then try again. To search for the file, click the Start button, andthen click Search.If you are in CMD the `start` command works fine but the problem is thein Run dialog windows doesn’t recognize it ?
