I cannot start windows anymore, because it freezes on half way before its totally up. message says: "not enough space on drive C" same with drive D. I also have EAZ fix installed and i managed to roll back to a previous date, but I still can not start up windows totally.I ALSO TRIED TO start in safe mode, and use cleanup disk, but even there it freezes while cleaning up disk
View 6 RepliesMy primary hard drive recently went nuts, so I decided to make my second drive the master. I completely disconnected the former master drive and set the former slave drive as the master. The newer harddrive is 250G and had been added thru XP. I only had some folders with music, video and such saved onto it. I wanted to keep those files so I didn't format the drive. And since they are large I didn't move them off the drive.
Installation proceeded normally until it reached "32 minutes remaining" and showed that it was "setting up network." The system just stays there. (The "new features" messages on the right side of the screen continue to cycle thru their list, and the little progress squares at the lower right continue to flash in sequence.) I had read thru some forums that hardware may be the cause so I removed the following: phone modem card, NIC, graphics card and the sound card. This left me with just the motherboard, floppy drive and cd-rom drive. Rebooted and still freezes at the same spot
I have responded to a question in another conference which asks for help with a failing re-install whith 32 mins to go. and said I would ask in here This happened to me and was sorted by Microsoft help desk (using the last of my 2 free support calls attendant with purchasing a full copy of XP) - by a lady in India and lots of waiting Musak and a high phone bill! - but I can't for the life of me recall the keysrtokes the support lady took me through to "continue the process". View 3 Replies View RelatedMy laptop freezes 9/10 when i choose shutdown and i have to force it by holding down the power button sometimes (4/10) it freezes when you leave it on its own for a while, usually when the screensaver kicked in it would ask for user to log on again..it was when bringing it out of screensaver it would do this - so i disabled the screensaver and now its not as often when it happens - its just if its been left for a while sometimes the screen will go black and freeze, it happened once or twice when logging off and other user goes to log on.. so t appears to be problem with the log on part of the setup

The left hane side contains the recently open items. This fills up fast, and I must go and ''remove this item from list'' with my mouse. Time comsuming. View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen I open up the Start Menu on one of the accounts, there is nothing in the left-hand column. When I right click and get the Properties, and try to Customize the Menu, the options don't save, and I'm stuck with nothing. I've tried clicking on the Internet radio button for "Show on Start Menu". I click Ok, then Apply, and Finally Ok again. But when I go back to the menu, it still has nothing in the left-hand column.
The second thing I've noticed was under Folder Options -> View, I tried to check both the "Show Hidden Files and Folders" button, and also un-check "Hide extensions for Known File Types" and click on Apply, then Ok again. But still, these options don't save and are reset back to "Do not show hidden files", and "hide extensions".
This may be somewhat esoteric but... Under my start button there is a sliver of the taskbar - either blue, silver, or olive green depending on the theme chosen. It wasn't always like this. The start button used to go all the way to the bottom of the screen without any 'line' below it. Has this happened to anyone else? Is there a way to make the start button fill the bottom left corner of the screen again?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI upgraded my video card drivers (latest nvidia geforce drivers), and restarted. Everything seemed to be fine. I tried to boot up Madden 2007 which I'd just gotten this weekend and had no problems with... until today. It wouldn't start up, seemingly frozen while trying to start... finally after waiting a few minutes I task manger/ended the program, or tried to. XP seemed to freeze up... I finally got tired of waiting and decided to hit the restart button, but accidentally put it into standby mode instead. I couldn't get it out of standby mode and at that point had to power down and turn the pc back on.
Ever since then, it's been taking longer to boot up, and the worst part is that the cd and dvd drives don't seem to work properly.
Is there any way I can be given a choice of which Hard Drive I can startup on when I turn on my computer if I put 2 individual Hard drives in it?If there is, I will purchase another copy of XP but I need to know before going to the expense of buying another XP operating system.

I used to have Nero and other programs like Jukebox, which I have uninstalled, but they still appear on this list as options, although they have no icon and do not work. How can I modify this list to remove the defunct programs? How can I have it not appear at all or run a defualt program automatically?

The ports on the front work OK with my digital camera and joystick and my pen drive works on every other machine that I have put it in.
Ever since I've had broadband my pc seems to have screwed up. Now if we connect to the internet the startbar freezes for 10 minutes. Even after 10 mins we have to press Crtl+Alt+Delete. I think it may be spyware as the system has slowed down too. I'm using xp home edition.

When I uninstall something the folder is still in the All Programs Menu. It contains that generic type of icon that means the program is not there. If I attempt to click on these empty folders, the sound mutes and the computer freezes. This can also happen if I click something on the desk top a certain way (sort of too fast) but this is rare.

It was all running fine until yesterday night when I went to play on a game - Medal Of Honor: Spearhead, which i've been playing for years. Anyways, I connected to my usual server, and the computer froze. I waited for 10 mins, and then powered it off by the PWR button on the front of the computer.
I have been having a problem for some time now, concerning my taskbar, which temporarily freezes (around 2min + ) when Windows is loading, and during that time the clock and other icons are not displayed, and the Start menu is unclickable...This happened after I re-created my iconcache.db, and I've got no solution to make it load faster, except if I leave the pc on for around 5min then enter the username and password to login, else if I do so as soon as the welcome screen appears it slows down.

I unplugged the machine and plugged it back in to restart and now I get either the windows start up page that freezez before it is loaded or I get this message: "RS482M- Test Bios BR#13207A". Sometimes I get nothing on the screen but I can hear the fan run. It will not let me start in Safe Mode. The DVD drive recognizes a DVD it there but it immediately freezes on start up.

It would usually take me three reboots to get the computer going well, but then it would be fine. I had done two clean installs of xp so I know the OS is fine. As mentioned, i had occasional xp shutdowns due to "device driver problems," but i could always get it going again. All drivers were up to date. Now i have it so that i can not even get into windows. After it gerts through bios, the windows loading logo comes up, then blue screen, and reboot. Everytime. Tried switching hard drive with another that has xp pro and same thing. Blue screen says usual suggest disabling anti-virus but can't even get into windows now.

The hour glass comes up and just stays there. Control/Alt/Delete doesn't do anything. I have to manually turn off the computer. I started it in the safe mode and ran Norton and anti spyware programs. They detected nothing. I can't go on AOL or explorer, even in the safe mode. I have a firewall and anti virus is up to date.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have setup a wireless network between two computers in my office and have installed some software that will automatically backup folders on each of the two computers.It work by backing up certain folders on computer 1 to the hard disk on computer 2 and vice versa.I also have a program installed on both computers that uses the data on computer 1.simplify the process of locating the data on my network I have created virtual drives using the Map Network Drives function in Windows. However; if I start up my computer and open these programs - they can not find the drives, I have to open My Computer first and double click on the drives before the programs will read from them. I am guessing that for some reason Windows is not connecting to these drives, even though I have set them to "reconnect at logon".
View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently installed the program registery fix and i believe it has caused my Cd and DVD drives or the paths to these drives to be deleted from windows as they do not show up in my computer. I have tried the options in the following list but none of them have helped me, i'm really stuck but i can't fix the problem.
- I've tried deleting the upper and lower filters but they are not in the selected registery.
- I've tried a system restore but i can't go back to a previous point before the registery fix install.
- I've tried unplugging the leads and restaring but this didn't help.
- I've tried microsoft guided help but it couldn't find the upper and lower filters.
- i beleive they are still listed in my bios but don't know exactly what i'm looking for when in bios.
I don't know where to go from here, i also run alcohol 120% a virtual drive software and the registery fix has had no affected on these drives but i'm wondering if this maybe why the program registery fix deleted my actual drives becasue of the virtual drives and replaced the paths to my actual drives but i'm not sure it's just a guess. I've deleted the virtual drives and tried the steps above but i've had no luck.
My operating system is Windows XP Pro. As of yesterday all was fine, I even burned a DVD. Today "My Computer" isn't even showing my DVD/CD recorder, only showing Drive A: 3.5 Floppy. It started when I downloaded (I think) WindowsBlinds, just wanted to do some color changes. Well when I installed it, Norton came up with a Trojan. Norton Quarantined or deleted it and said no more further actions required. The install finished (windowblinds) and I tried a couple different skins and decided to uninstall it. I have 5 internal HDD's and 2 external USB drives, I also have 2 DVD R/RW +- Dual Density drives, a Zip 250 and an Orb 2GB drive. So far this year I have had to reinstall my Windows like 8 times and done about 4 Windows repairs! Each time I seem to get 4 extra removable drives added to my system. In Disk Manager they are listed as "Generic STORAGE DEVICE USB Device", I have changed Device Usage to Do Not use this device (disable) and also I have uninstalled each device. Unfortunately, each time I restart the computer, they come back, shifting other drives to another drive letter.
