I have an HP Pavilion and couple of programs are missing from my desktop which even not getting rectified after re installation of windows xp but i am able to access to the internet and now have to reinstall my printer and scanner.
The "All Programs" selection has disappeared in the menu. This is on my friends computer, which has XP Pro. I use HE, so I'm not that familiar with the nuances of Pro, so it may just be a setting that's unique to Pro. He has the other selections on the menu, and the desktop icons, and also can get the programs to list if he switches to the "Classic Start Menu" on the taskbar properties menu. But on the regular XP menu, there's a space where the "All Programs" selection would be, but it's blank. And hovering the pointer over that space still does not bring it up.
Since the listing of the programs DOES show up with the Classic menu, that's why I'm thinking it's just a setting. I've poked around in the Customize>General tab and the Advanced tab, but none of that stuff seems to work (it doesn't seem pertinent to the situation either). Now two other posts that I've made here may be pertinent to this issue.
For some reason my start menu no longer shows Recently Used Programs or Recently Used Documents. All other MRU lists seem to be working properly, just these two are blank. I tried clearing or setting it to display 0 programs, then restarting and setting it back to 6 but it still doesn't show.
when I started it and logged on the computer all my files were missing and some of the programs had dissappeared. I checked and made sure I was logged onto my account and not the guest one. I restarted the computer hoping that everything would just be normal again but instead after watching a black screen for 5 minutes got this message:"Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:<Windows root>system32hal.dll Please re-install a copy of the above file."
I was cleaning up my computer today and I think that I accidently deleted a program that I should not have. All the Change/Remove buttons from the Add/Remove Programs listing disappeared. I searched online for solutions and all the questions I found were leading to to the Registry. However, the uninstall folder that I am supposed tobe seeing under Registry/Local Machine/Software/Microsoft/ Windows/Current Version ismissing. How do I make the folder 'UNINSTALL" appearin the registry so that I can bring back the Change/Revome buttons in my Add/Remove Programs listing?
when ever i open up a program and try to intiate opening a file, say i'm trying to author a dvd, and i want to open up the file that i want to work on, well, the whole program disappears, as if i closed it, i thought it might be just one program, but it seems to be a few programs, don't know whats going on
My Paint file disappeared. It use to be listed under ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES but now it is nowhere to be found. It is useful to construct attachments. Can someone help me find it and place it in the START menu again.
I have XP Home SP2 (of course a correct license, and with automatic Windows update). Suddenly the sound on my computer disappeared. The sound card drivers looks okay, but the volume and mixer programs seem to be gone. Maybe some other sound/audio programs and/or dll:s are missing too, I don't know. I can not install them again because the only disc I got from the supplier is a recovery disc so that the computer becomes as new (for 3? years ago), so that is not an option (it would take me a month to update and configure everything again, then). And there are no extra (for install purposes) windows sw on the harddisc. And I cannot find anything useful on Microsofts site and they do not have any useful support service for my problem as it seems. So, I am stuck and now need help from you guys.
I've just taken my brand new desktop system out of the box and there's no Start menu or icons appearing on the desktop. The monitor automatically initiated a startup wizard to select the correct resolution but once that was complete, the desktop was blank (except for the Windows default rolling green hills wallpaper). Not even the mouse pointer is visible. I restarted but after startup it went to the blank picture again. I tried pressing the Windows key on the keyboard, and also tried Ctrl+Alt+delete to get the Task manager but both times nothing happened. All components are plugged in correctly, and I haven't installed any software other than what came installed from the manufacturer (please see specs in my profile); I literally plugged it all in and switched it on.
I can't open any programs in do home. I can open Task Manager but no apps ever appear. I can run programs in safe mode. I have run safe mode. I ran chkdsk /r. Emptied the temp folder. Any suggestions on how to make my programs open again?
I am unable to access either files or programs in XP. If I go into the Start menu, clicking on my programs or my files freezes the computer.I can go online. I can boot up all programs on the start page, and run them. I can access the five "last" files in Word. I can receive and send Email. I get a baloon message on startup indicating the "you have files waiting to be written to the CD. To see them now, click the baloon". Clicking the baloon freezes the computer.I can't get to the point where I could delete files or programs.
All programs like wmp, winamp cd rippers, cdburnerxp pro3,ect do not work when it comes to playing or ripping cda music files. I think there is a problem with the mci cd audio driver.I cant figure out how to change it or where to load the cd audio driver for windows xp home.
I was checking my daughters pc for some usual maintenance. The start programs on list suddenly dont open, computer freezes up, did the error-checking but I cannot seem to get some vital prgrams to open up. I am running a couple of recent worm tools from Symantec and so far, nothing. Could this be a hardware problem or can someone tell me something I am missing?
I reinstalled Windows XP. For some reason, all of my old programs show up in Windows Explorer, but not in the Start Menu or in Control Panel/Add Remove Programs. Is there a way to fix this?
I have Xp and i just installed a bunch of new programs and when i go into the start all programs menu there all highlighted in that orange tint and even after clicking the shortcuts they still stay like that is there a way how to get rid of it
Just did an upgrade install of Win2k on a Win98SE system. I've had this computer for ages and did not want to do a clean install. The upgrade went fine except for one problem. In my add/remove program section all of my previously installed programs are missing. They were not deleted, just missing from add/remove.How do I restore these programs back into the add/remove program section?
I am trying to set up a home network to connect my laptop (with xp pro) to my desktop (with xp home) i am using a 3com office conect router as a hub. With the fire walls on each machine switched off I can see each of the machines from each other.I can share files on the laptop with the desktop, but when I try to access the desktop from the laptop I get the following message : xxxxxxx is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Login Failure : the user has not been granted the requested logon type at this computer.
I'm trying to share folders between two laptops set up on a home wifi workgroup. Currently, both laptops are "seeing" each other's share folders (as mapped network drives), and both laptops have full internet access I have allowed simple file sharing on the XP Pro system. I have also set the firewalls to allow access, and I'm using AVG firewall instead of Windows firewall. However, only one of the computers is allowing access to the other. The XP Pro computer can access the share folders on the XP Home computer, but not vice versa. When using the XP Home computer, I can map the shared folders on the XP Pro computer, but when I try to access them, I get denied access.
I have just upgraded my M/b, CPU & RAM. Went through the (painful) procedure of re-activation (how many digits ). Had to do a repair install to get XP to boot. While booting I noticed that the 'chasing lights' on the Windows flash screen had reverted back to green instead of blue, which indicates that I no longer have SP2 installed. Visited MS Update. Was told SP2 was already installed. However, I have no icon for Security Centre either.
we had to remove Visual Studio 2005...when uninstalling VS it tells you to unistall portions in order...we did that and now nothing is listed in Add/Remove Programs relating to VS at all...however, in the start menu there is MS SQL Server 2005 configuration tools...when you reboot windows xp you get an error saying SQL Server could not start...well, we don't want SQL Server 2005 on there and are trying to remove it but it is not listed in Add/Remove at all...can't find anything relating to this at all.how do we remove SQL Server 2005 configuration tools?
I am experiencing a strange problem when attempting to uninstall programs from Control Panel --> Add / Remove programs. When I attempt to uninstall a program, the corresponding programs "uninstaller", asks for a network resource. Here is an example screen shot of what I am seeing when I attempt to uninstall Ad Aware: It doesn't seem to matter what I am attempting to uninstall. In all of the uninstall scenarios that I have seen Add / Remove programs asks for an MSI file with a similar name to the program that I am attempting to uninstall.
Programs on my work computer are not listed in the add or remove programs in control panel. This has caused me a few problems in the pasts when I need to delete programs and had to find the software supplier on a website to give me an uninstall program. There are many programs not listed.
I'm using an IBM NetVista, Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 1.80GHz and one night, powers went out. And when I turned my PC on, USB ports aren't working. To my surprise, at the device manager, USB section was gone. It was undetected, or w/e.
All of a sudden my CD drive and my new DVD burner are gone. They are still there but it is as if they were unplugged from my PC but they were not unplugged. I did some Windows Updates recently. Tried System Restore and it did not work. When I go into "My Computer" the 2 drives are just gone.
This started happening yesterday....my D drive keeps disappearing. Dell Latitude Laptop Win 2000 Pro, I go to the My Computer Icon...and it is gone? Anyone know where it might be hiding?
