Install Updates And Shut Down - Won't Get Past Loading Screen

Jul 16, 2009

About a week ago I reformatted my computer. Everything worked wonderfully and my computer ran great. Then 3 days ago at the end of the night I went to shut it down and it said "install updates and shut down." So, I told it to install and shut down. The next day when I went to turn it on, for the first time since that shutdown, it froze on the XP loading screen. I manually turned it off, then tried again and selected to start windows normally. It came up fine, and ran just great since then, with a couple of different shutdown and restarts in between. Last night, it again said "install updates and shut down." I clicked for it to install and shut down. Now this morning I can't get past the XP loading screen. I have tried 4 different times. I don't know what to try. I also, don't know if the "install and shut down" is part of the problem or just a coincidence.

Can't Start XP: After Loading Screen, Blue Screen Stop Error

Oct 5, 2010

Toshiba Satellite running on windows XP

When I start the computer, it asks if for the choice of Safe Mode, w/ Networking, w/Command Prompt or Normally.

I've tried them all and if I try it normally, it won't get past the XP loading screen. It's loading and then it flashes a blue screen for a second and then restarts the computer again.

I tried pressing F8 at boot and selected 'Disable automatic restart on system failure' and this is what I get

STOP: 0x00000024 (0x00190203, 0x83306788, 0xC0000102, 0x00000000)

I even tried using this to get to chkdsk At boot, F12, chose CD/DVD, but still nothing, I even tried disabling boot from +HDD, FDD and LAN from the bios setup menu to see if it works and this is what I got, it just keeps going on and on unless I enable boot from +HDD

Crashing / After Reset The Computer, It Freezes After The Welcome Screen

May 11, 2006

I formatted my hd and reinstalled windows. However, after I finished installing all the drivers the system was running pretty sluggish. Also I have no been able to get an anti-virus program running. Everytime I try to install one, after I reset the comp, it freezes after the welcome screen. Actually I can move the mouse around but it won't finish loading up. I ended up reformating again, I installed all the drivers, it ran fine for a little bit, I created a restore point, I installed a virus scan, and same happened again. Also, the system restore kept turning off after every restart. Now i'm in safe mode and can't even undo the virus scan installation. I don't get any kind of errors, it just won't work. Previously the computer ran in this exact setup for about 6 months w/ no problems.

Computer Got Slower To Start Up And Shut Down

Mar 8, 2008

My laptop is a little over a year old, and has gradually gotten slower to both start up and shutdown. I have hardly anything running at start up, and the disk has been defraged. On the other hand, my 5+ year old desktop boots up in LESS than half the time, running less RAM and a slower processor. The only difference is that the desktop was reformatted a few months ago, but it has not slowed down. Here it is Toshiba Satellite A-105 1.7 Dual Core 1Ghz RAM XP SP2 Start up Items:AVG Anti virus Zone Alarm Firewall Toshiba Hot keys (The Fn Function keys) Toshiba Touch pad (Mouse)Intel WirelessI've done several scans and there are no viruses or spy ware. Not Start Up Properly Loading Screen Comes Up

My HP Laptop is about 4 years old, but still works great... until a few days ago. When i start it up, the loading screen comes up and finishes. Then it goes black, and stays black. I CAN however boot in safe mode (not safe mode with networking tough), and it works fine. I am also having problems finding my CD, but have the License Code. So a No-CD Answer would be wonderful

Stalls On Start Up Loading Screen

Aug 6, 2005

I am using WinXP SP2 and just two days ago the computer stalls at the loading screen (black screen says Windows XP and the blue loading bar underneath). It doesnt completely freeze but it just keeping on loading and never gets to windows, even after I wait for 10 mins. I have tried F8 and used 'last know good configuration and that didn't help'. The only change that i've made was instaling a new DVD burner a few days and it worked no problem after installation. The stall problem started after I manaully shut down the computer (press down power for 10 secs) when my computer froze from using dvd shrink. I'm pretty sure its not the software problem.. it should be hardware problem? Should I update dvd firmware? Is there anything else I can do to fix the stall problem?

Computer Takes 3 Minutes To Start Up And Shut Down

Feb 15, 2008

My computer works really well, the only problem is, when I start or shutdown my computer, it's very very slow. It's appears to be frozen for a minute or so and then start or shutdown. It does start or shutdown properly but it's slow. It can take up to 2 - 3 minutes to either start or shutdown.I noticed that when I start my computer, I see the Windows Update yellow shield appear near the clock and then goes away. I'm not sure if it's related but thought I would let you know.

Restart After Logo Loading Start Up Screen

May 20, 2010

Today I decided to do a system restore on my HP desktop computer. It was running painfully slow, to many un-needed programs etc. So I backed up all the files that I needed to keep and save to my external hard drive. The computer did not come with an operating disk so the only way I could get it back to sorta normal is to do the system restore. After I backed up all my files I restarted the computer and pressed F11 or 12 cant remember the one for system recovery/restore. About 12 seconds into the restore/recovery thing I accidentally hit the power switch under the table When I turned the computer back on I presses the F11 button again and this time made sure nothing bad happened. After it completed its task I clicked OK and restarted the computer.
