Display Desktop Background / Slowed My Computer On Start Up And Shut Down
Sep 15, 2010
I imported a picture from my docs and somehow it imported the whole folder which has slowed my computer on start up and shut down. how can i remove these pictures from this background box permanently
Desktop preview screen is blank, however, the image does display on the desktop. Background images with bitmap icon will display in preview, but not those with what appears to be a film icon. Some of the regular Windows images, i.e. Azul, Windows XP, etc. have the film icon, and do not display in preview.
On display i have desktop themes and background choices. i imported a picture from my computer, from using the browse function but it imported the whole folder of pictures. how do i remove the pictures it imported into this background box please. this is slowing my dell down to a snails pace on start up and shut down.
I got a huge hullabaloo and 'Malwarealarm' installed randomly ( I got it from a popup when Firefox told me the site was spywarefilled) and the computer was fine. I restart once, and I loose my background, my ability to select a background from the 'Desktop' tab under rightclick-properties on the desktop itself became null (just a black screen), and proceed to try a myriad of things. Installed the new DirectX driver, new ATI Videocard driver, DirectX9.0, rolled back to ATI Xtasy driver, then tried installing DirectX9.0 again. Run virusscan and spywarescans, got rid of a bunch of stupid cookies. When I login or logout of Windows, my old background appears for a second, then disappears once more.
My sister-in-laws' desktop will not display a background. The screen briefly shows her picture and then turns blue and only displays her desktop icons. The display background choices in the control panel are all inoperable and the little screen showing the display preview is white. I had previously changed the font setting from extra large to medium and these settings work.
Until recently just the usual Windows files in the Background file list in Display Properties/Desktop. Recently the list grows day by day it seems with a variety of files from My Pictures folder. Now takes quite a while to open the desktop option. Possibly linked to Picasa some way. How can I get rid of them without deleting the photo file ?
I am unable to modify the Desktop background (in the Display options). Regardless of whatever choice I make I always get a white background.Avast Anti-viruss scan found no viruses and 'Malwarebytes' found no malware. I tried System Restore' but it cannot restore.I turned off and on the PC, unplugged it from the mains but to no avail. The problem started after removing some malware using Ad-Aware.
I was using wallpaper spinner which made my background change every minute. I have been using it for almost a year and never had any problems with it. Now when i go into properties to put a wallpaper up they are all grayed out and i only have the option of a color for my background. Anyone have ANY idea on why it cant display pictures and only colors? I have went into my pictures and right clicked and hit set as background and nothing happens i cant even use pictures that came on the computer for wallpaper and my wallpaper spinner was running and it wasn't even showing anything on the background.
I'm trying to help a friend speed up a slow computer.Did the standard stuff, Adaware, Spybot s&d, Spyblaster. Also did disc cleanup. Then when I tried to start the defrag, it does nothing when I click it.Isn,t there somthing I can do?
Every time I try to reboot or turn my computer off i get an 'END PROGRAM' message telling me that if I end it too soon I will lose any unsaved data. When I check the Event Viewer Log it says, Type: Information, the date, the time, then the Source: ccPwdSvc,Category: None,Event: 1User: System, computer: Home.
When i start my computer all i see is the desktop background. No icons, no task bar. After restarting the computer between 3 and 6 times the icons and taskbar will eventually appear.I've been reading up on the problem for around a month now and tried many different things to solve it. Really dont want to format computer. I dont no too much so please be step by step in any anwsers left.
My laptop is a little over a year old, and has gradually gotten slower to both start up and shutdown. I have hardly anything running at start up, and the disk has been defraged. On the other hand, my 5+ year old desktop boots up in LESS than half the time, running less RAM and a slower processor. The only difference is that the desktop was reformatted a few months ago, but it has not slowed down. Here it is Toshiba Satellite A-105 1.7 Dual Core 1Ghz RAM XP SP2 Start up Items:AVG Anti virus Zone Alarm Firewall Toshiba Hot keys (The Fn Function keys) Toshiba Touch pad (Mouse)Intel WirelessI've done several scans and there are no viruses or spy ware. I have also used both Crap Cleaner and Norton Utilities (No, Norton is NOT installed and found no registry issues. I did run Hijack This, and here's the log.
Whenever i start my computer, all i can see is my background. i tried ctrl+alt+delete and that pops up, but nothing else happens. after about ten minutes, it finally reaches the desktop stage. its a 2005 compaq presario with an added wireless adapter card and extra RAM.
My computer works really well, the only problem is, when I start or shutdown my computer, it's very very slow. It's appears to be frozen for a minute or so and then start or shutdown. It does start or shutdown properly but it's slow. It can take up to 2 - 3 minutes to either start or shutdown.I noticed that when I start my computer, I see the Windows Update yellow shield appear near the clock and then goes away. I'm not sure if it's related but thought I would let you know.
I get the mj view error code at start up.I also cannot shut down my computer(i believe the 2 are related) I have to do it manually so I just hibernate.Information was given to me that it could be the ebates moneymaker program installed.I checked for that and do not have it but i do have i give shopping window.Well, I went to remove this program and i cannot. The error code comes back everytime i click "remove"I also successfully removed 2 other unwanted programs so it seems that this program could be the problem. How can I get rid of the error message and this program? Do I have to contact the site itself?I have contacted H&P(4 days worth of computer emails)and they had me all over this computer with no results.
i think im postin in the right place. I have a system that i built about a month ago that keeps crashing and i dont know why. It runs XP. when i start the computer, it will either shut down after the windows loading screen, shut down after the motherboard maker screen, or shut down as soon as i power up. I buit it, but this is the first time ive done anything like this before, and i dont know much about the workings of the insides yet.
I have windows xp and Im having trouble with my background. When I go into display properties, under background I cant select any backgrounds. It stays one solid color and behind that is a background.
Every image I place an image in 'My Pictures' folder it is by default being placed in my Background list.I would prefer to use the browse function in Display Properties> Background to select which images to add to the list.As it set up right now I will eventually end up with an unwieldy number of images in the list. What can I do to change this.
How can I add a custom location to the display properties background tab? All my wallpapers are stored under D:Wallpapers and I want to see them in the background tab.
when I go to set a picture as the desktop background it stretches it to fit, fine... but if you dont want everyone looking wide you set it to centre but when I do that it zooms right in on the picture instead of displaying it in its original size on the screen.... why is this? is it because the picture from the camera is massive or is this an XP bug?
In Windows XP, is there any way to remove the list of "My Pictures" from the wallpaper (background) list in Display Properties? Every picture I've saved from the Internet and every picture I've saved from my digital camera appears in the list of background pictures that can be chosen from the "Desktop" tab in Display Properties. MOST of these pictures would be inappropriate as desktop wallpaper so I'd rather not have them as choices in the list (menu). In addition, there are hundreds of them! I don't want to delete them from "My Pictures" however.
when I open my Display Properties and move to the Desktop tab and choose Browse to choose a picture to set as my background, after I have selected Open and the box closes, the Apply button is unavailable and the image I chose does not appear in my list or in the preview. I've also taken notice that certain images that were once in the list of available backgrounds images, such as Ascent, Autumn and Azul no longer appear to be available. Right clicking on an image and choosing Set as desktop background does not work, and neither does choosing the same option from the Picture Tasks. Does anybody have any idea what has happened and how I can restore whatever settings I may have changed without applying a system restore?
I am looking for a screensaver of a type like a moving banner across the display. A banner or flag that can have it texture or background customized from artwork that I choose or have made. If I am not clear, I need to have a picture or artwork I have stored or created on my pc move about the screen in screensaver mode. What should I be looking for?
I've just taken my brand new desktop system out of the box and there's no Start menu or icons appearing on the desktop. The monitor automatically initiated a startup wizard to select the correct resolution but once that was complete, the desktop was blank (except for the Windows default rolling green hills wallpaper). Not even the mouse pointer is visible. I restarted but after startup it went to the blank picture again. I tried pressing the Windows key on the keyboard, and also tried Ctrl+Alt+delete to get the Task manager but both times nothing happened. All components are plugged in correctly, and I haven't installed any software other than what came installed from the manufacturer (please see specs in my profile); I literally plugged it all in and switched it on.
for awhile now I have been experiencing slow computer start up. My computer will boot to the desktop, then stay there for a few mins. I try clicking icons, not clicking icons, but I still have to wait. *Also* The comp. doesn't sound as if it is loading...sometimes the hourglass cursor will appear, but the CPU never gets loud during this waiting time. I would like to not have to wait every time I get on my computer. Can anyone help? Please! I will be standing by for an answer.I have scanned for viruses, adware, and spyware.after making sure those were gone I still had this slow start up problem.
I have a Dell Dimension 2400 I have Windows XP my computer is less than a year old and the other day it just started and the start menu and desktop icons wont come up any longer.I dont wanna reformat it because i have a ton of music and other files on here that i'd like to keep like pictures and whatnot is there anyway to get my computer to come back?
new to this whole thing but here goes. lately my computer has just gone to crap, ram useage gone through the roof and thus everything runs slower and going from one program to another just lags. I recently installed a new hdd although i couldnt see how that would affect it? Either way here is the hijack this log
