when I go to set a picture as the desktop background it stretches it to fit, fine... but if you dont want everyone looking wide you set it to centre but when I do that it zooms right in on the picture instead of displaying it in its original size on the screen.... why is this? is it because the picture from the camera is massive or is this an XP bug?
View 3 RepliesI've got a problem on my buddy's PC. I downloaded a wallpaper from the net. 1024x768. I open it up and right click it to set as background and the background will not change to the new wallpaper. It is like that for any image I try to set as background.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm using XP Home Edition, with all updates installed. For some reason, I can't change the background wallpaper on my screen. I right-click on the desktop, select Properties, then select the Desktop tab. There is only one wallpaper listed in the Background list, as well as the (None) option, which works. Unfortunately, I can only switch between (None) and my current wallpaper. Browse works, in that I can search my computer for other images. But when I select any of those images nothing happens. The current wallpaper remains in the preview screen, and the wallpaper I selected through browsing doesn't show up in the Background list. (I can Center, Stretch and Tile my current wallpaper.)
View 11 Replies View RelatedI can change the desktop wallpaper background to a personal pic, by using the browse button. no problem, but it won't keep the pic in the list of available backgrounds. it will keep the background i choose until i want to change it, but as soon as i switch, that pic disappears and if i want to change back, i have to use the browse button all over again. running xp home not a major problem, but annoying.if there is a quick fix i can't find it.
View 6 Replies View RelatedThe SHIFT key was pressed too long and we got into the Swift Key feature somehow. We got out of it by exiting the application. However, now everytime we start the computer, key strokes don't appear on the screen. You have to hold down the SHIFT key until it makes a sound and then you can type characters and they are displayed on the screen. It is irritating to start the computer and not be able to type anything.
There is probably a switch that was set that I can't find. How can I get rid of this "feature?" PC is Laptop Dell 2600 Inspiron running XP Home.
when i switched it on, i couldn't see my wallpaper, but just a black screen. I tried changing it back to the wallpaper, but even though the wallpaper seemed to change, i still could only see a black screen. The wallpaper is there, because when i close a game it appears for a second, then gets back to the black screen. It's like it is being covered by the background colour. Everything is still working fine, and i can use all the icons on my desktop, however a black desktop is very annoying

Now, when I right-click [on my destop] and view my display properties, the tab for Desktop isn't even there. The tabs I do see are themes (of which I have none to choose from), screensaver, appearance, and settings. Is there a way to repair this without reinstalling windows?

Under it there was a box that said "Click here to restore background" or something like that. When I clicked on it my background became a solid blue background. I tried changing it by right clicking, but when the Properties windows opens, the only folders that show up are the Screensaver and Settings folders. All the others are gone.I can change the wallpaper when I go to My Pictures and right click and set up as background, but the screen remains blue and you can only see the picture briefly when powering on and off

View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently had an annoying pop-up on my screen telling me I was infected , my Norton had expired so I loaded all the McAfee gubbins I got with my EasyNote E2 in 2005, after doing a scan it found 1 trojan and about 15 potentially harmful things! Not thinking , I deleted the lot even though it said that some files may be linked to applications and now when I boot up I get the PB purple screen, then the XP screen and the blue welcome screen, after this I see the picture I set as wallpaper stretched over the entire screen, then the screen goes pink (colour I chose for background) but once the icons start appearing on the desktop the screen goes white with a slight tinge of pink aound the icons. I can't even browse for pics to set as wallpaper and when I go into MY PICTURES and right click to "set as wallpaper" nothing happens.

I was using wallpaper spinner which made my background change every minute. I have been using it for almost a year and never had any problems with it. Now when i go into properties to put a wallpaper up they are all grayed out and i only have the option of a color for my background. Anyone have ANY idea on why it cant display pictures and only colors? I have went into my pictures and right clicked and hit set as background and nothing happens i cant even use pictures that came on the computer for wallpaper and my wallpaper spinner was running and it wasn't even showing anything on the background.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI got a huge hullabaloo and 'Malwarealarm' installed randomly ( I got it from a popup when Firefox told me the site was spywarefilled) and the computer was fine. I restart once, and I loose my background, my ability to select a background from the 'Desktop' tab under rightclick-properties on the desktop itself became null (just a black screen), and proceed to try a myriad of things. Installed the new DirectX driver, new ATI Videocard driver, DirectX9.0, rolled back to ATI Xtasy driver, then tried installing DirectX9.0 again. Run virusscan and spywarescans, got rid of a bunch of stupid cookies. When I login or logout of Windows, my old background appears for a second, then disappears once more.

Every picture I've saved from the Internet and every picture I've saved from my digital camera appears in the list of background pictures that can be chosen from the "Desktop" tab in Display Properties. MOST of these pictures would be inappropriate as desktop wallpaper so I'd rather not have them as choices in the list (menu). In addition, there are hundreds of them! I don't want to delete them from "My Pictures" however.

Regardless of whatever choice I make I always get a white background.Avast Anti-viruss scan found no viruses and 'Malwarebytes' found no malware. I tried System Restore' but it cannot restore.I turned off and on the PC, unplugged it from the mains but to no avail.The problem started after removing some malware using Ad-Aware.
View 1 Replies View Relatedwhen I open my Display Properties and move to the Desktop tab and choose Browse to choose a picture to set as my background, after I have selected Open and the box closes, the Apply button is unavailable and the image I chose does not appear in my list or in the preview. I've also taken notice that certain images that were once in the list of available backgrounds images, such as Ascent, Autumn and Azul no longer appear to be available. Right clicking on an image and choosing Set as desktop background does not work, and neither does choosing the same option from the Picture Tasks. Does anybody have any idea what has happened and how I can restore whatever settings I may have changed without applying a system restore?
