Background Replaced By White Screen / Unable To Restore Wallpaper?
Jan 2, 2007
I had a wallpaper background on my computer, but it was suddenly replaced by a white background that says Display Problem in a big blue triangle. Under it there was a box that said "Click here to restore background" or something like that. When I clicked on it my background became a solid blue background. I tried changing it by right clicking, but when the Properties windows opens, the only folders that show up are the Screensaver and Settings folders. All the others are gone.I can change the wallpaper when I go to My Pictures and right click and set up as background, but the screen remains blue and you can only see the picture briefly when powering on and off
Trying to help a friend of mine. He had added a shortcut to his desktop, says was active shortcut, ever since then has not been able to change desktop, its white (none) . I went to the sreen to change it and selected the one he wanted . I then closed the system and rebooted, when it first comes up,the background is correct, but when loads icons it reverts to a white background.
I don't know when/how it started, but now everytime I start windows, all my icons except My Computer, My Docs etc. appear as white squares. I know of a temporary solution, to change the icon size, and then change it back
I was surfing the net and my McAfee virus scan told me i was infected. Soon after my desktop wallpaper showed an ad for free spyware removal software and now i can't change it back to the regular desktop. When i right click it acts like a pic, and won't let me go to the desktop properties.
I have come to use my system restore today and it doesnt load up. When i first click it the egg timer appears to load but nothing happens, when i click it again it loads but i just get a white screen.
I know is this going to sound very "lame", but here goes. My wife like the desktop theme for the seascape, it has the ships wheel when working and for the mouse is a sea shell. Very nice. But, the background is a light tan colored and I hate it, I would like the plain white background. Is there a way to keep the sea theme and still get a white background?
its been a while since i posted here and i want to thank you in advance.anyways on to the fun stuff.i recently upgraded my computer,ew motherboard, cpu, ram, vid card, and hard drive.everything is installed correctly as far as i know, im able to install windows vista perfectly. but after about an hour or 2 everything will just stop working, like it usually starts with me not being able to download the new updates, then proceeds onto not letting me open any applications/executables. also when i tried to go to my computer it wouldnt load, it would just bring up a window with a white background and nothing else.
When I open command prompt (DOS) it has the colors black background and grayish-white text, which is the default color. But when I type the command 'start', it opens a new window with blue text and green background.I think it does this because I download the program Replacer, which runs in DOS and makes the screen those colors. I also think the Replacer program did something to the system Path which modifies DOS to make it those colors when running a new window.
I've got a problem on my buddy's PC. I downloaded a wallpaper from the net. 1024x768. I open it up and right click it to set as background and the background will not change to the new wallpaper. It is like that for any image I try to set as background.
I'm using XP Home Edition, with all updates installed. For some reason, I can't change the background wallpaper on my screen. I right-click on the desktop, select Properties, then select the Desktop tab. There is only one wallpaper listed in the Background list, as well as the (None) option, which works. Unfortunately, I can only switch between (None) and my current wallpaper. Browse works, in that I can search my computer for other images. But when I select any of those images nothing happens. The current wallpaper remains in the preview screen, and the wallpaper I selected through browsing doesn't show up in the Background list. (I can Center, Stretch and Tile my current wallpaper.)
I can change the desktop wallpaper background to a personal pic, by using the browse button. no problem, but it won't keep the pic in the list of available backgrounds. it will keep the background i choose until i want to change it, but as soon as i switch, that pic disappears and if i want to change back, i have to use the browse button all over again. running xp home not a major problem, but annoying.if there is a quick fix i can't find it.
when i switched it on, i couldn't see my wallpaper, but just a black screen. I tried changing it back to the wallpaper, but even though the wallpaper seemed to change, i still could only see a black screen. The wallpaper is there, because when i close a game it appears for a second, then gets back to the black screen. It's like it is being covered by the background colour. Everything is still working fine, and i can use all the icons on my desktop, however a black desktop is very annoying
When I start SR I can only see one restore point, the one I made the day after I replaced my hard drive. But now when I try to create a new restore point it allows me to enter the name, then after I click OK I get the message ''System Restore is not able to create a restore point. Please restart the computer , and then run System restore again.''After I restart I run System Restore again and get the same message.
Also, the restore points I made before I replaced my hard drive no longer show up.When I replaced the drive (with a Maxtore 80 gb), I used their MaxBurn program to duplicate everything form the old one to the new one. It boots from the new C drive and runs OK and all my programs are there, but some act strangely. I'm wondering if these programs are looking for some kind of system volume information tho make sure they are still on the original system.
I can't change the wallpaper on my desktop anymore. I last changed it to a wallpaper for halloween from hersheys.com. Now, when I right-click [on my destop] and view my display properties, the tab for Desktop isn't even there. The tabs I do see are themes (of which I have none to choose from), screensaver, appearance, and settings. Is there a way to repair this without reinstalling windows?
it has locked me out from changing it. Initially, I was unable to access my task manager screen until I ran Windows onecare scan. it cleared up the virus but I still cannot get into my regedit (it states registry editing has been blocked by your adminstrator). My background change occurred as a part of this virus....
when I go to set a picture as the desktop background it stretches it to fit, fine... but if you dont want everyone looking wide you set it to centre but when I do that it zooms right in on the picture instead of displaying it in its original size on the screen.... why is this? is it because the picture from the camera is massive or is this an XP bug?
When I used win98 I used to be able to put a primary image, usually centered, on my desktop and then was able to put a background pattern (eg. triangles or bricks) around the primary image I am having difficulty doing this with XP. Can anyone tell me how to get the background image pattern to work.I have SP2 and Plus.
1. Click Start > click Run > type regedit > and click OK.2. Navigate to the following registry key: HKEY_USERSDEFAULTControl PanelColors 3. In the details pane (right-side), double-click the Background string value item. 4. Change the value to a 3 number RGB value, and then click OK . You have now changed the logon background color.NOTE: I went looking for this registry key after using the "Change the Logon BackGround" tweak, and that bright XP blue color kept showing before the OS had a chance to load my dark wallpaper. This way if you choose a color close to the wallpaper shown, the load of the wallpaper is less noticeable.
How can I remove the "Internet Explorer Wallpaper" listed in the Background window under the Desktop tab? I wish to delete it but failed to find this wallpaper in the C:Windowswebwallpaper and C:Windows directories.

i was facing the problem of not being able to connect to the internet for trojan removals reasons...after sick of not having a solution..i decided to reformatt or set up a new windows...now i can'tdo this either....
This all started out that I was having a microphone audio recording problem the other day and was trying to solve that...A couple of days ago, I did a complete HP System Restore on my computer to try to fix the problem, not realizing that it would do all that it did to my computer. Im having to re-install alot of my programs, etc. Now When Im trying to watch a video online, if I click the 'full screen' view it comes up just totally white screen with no picture at all.
and after a few days of my computer not allowing me to open certain programs, I thought that a virus may have slipped through Norton. So I did a System Restore to the first of the month. But when my computer restarted, Windows opens but only my wallpaper will show up...no icons, no toobar and it won't allow me to click on anything or open any further
My daughter has been going on random internet sites and even though we've got mcafee virus scans and firewalls something seems to have loaded itself on our Personal Computer and is slowly stopping it working. We keep getting what looks like spyware that pops up with a virus/PUP warning and saying we need to download spytrooper to get rid of it. A yellow triangle flashes in the bottom corner of our screen with a system alert saying spyware and adware are on our personal computer.First it changed our home page to the spyware home page and now it's stopping us accessing internet sites, says it's done and logged on but we just have a white screen with a task bar at the top.We use windows NT.
I am having a weird problem with my windows xp laptop,i don't know what could be causing it so i don't know how to fix it. Ok the problem is constant from start up to shutdown and has been occurring now for about 2 weeks. At first i thought it was a virus so i cleaned my computer but it is still occurring. The problem is this, every now and then my screen will go completely white, its just a display thing cause it happened when i was working while listening to music. it can last anywhere to just 1 sec to 5 minutes. Its constant all the way through but it gets worse if i am watching a dvd or playing a game. What is this problem and how can i fix it? i tried system restore but that didn't work.i think it may be the software i installed at the time but i can't find it in the add or remove programs list to uninstall it.
How come when my daughter tries to log onto certain kids web sites she just gets a blank white screen? It appears as if the site is not loading. Do I need to load or install something?
The other day while using my dads laptop, i closed the screen, and on reopening it, it displayed a blank white screen. I turned it off and back on again. It seem to be booting normally until it was time for the desktop to load, at which time the white screen returned. It boots in safe mode and i tried a system restore, which was unsuccessful.
I don't even use Internet Explorer,I am currently using mozilla firefox as my browser, so in the hell do I get Internet Explorer pop-ups.Then when you try to close out of them the entire screen goes white and it won't let you close out the pop-up.Example: RUNDLL, everytime I log-on I get this message: Title Bar says RUNDLL then it reads: Error Loading C:WINDOWSsystem32atgban.dll. The specified module could not be found. What the hell does this mean?
If I leave my computer on for extended periods of time I either get some kind of error message about memory (white letters on blue screen) or windows displays only my desktop background and mouse cursor when I wake it, the only way to fix either of these is to unplug the computer and plug it back in.
downloaded Morpheus and then tried to uninstall it and it just sits at this blank white screen and wont let you remove it.I tried in safe mode but it just sits there
last night my electric ran out suddenly...this doesnt usually happen 'cause i try to keep it all up to date (key meters for ya) When i turned my comp back on it went to the Black screen with White text, you know the one with Start Windows Normally.Start in Safe Mode etc.Well either way when i choose one of those, i get a blue screen of death appearing, can't quite remember what it said now, 'cause i am at a friend house at the moment, but i rang some tech support guy and he said my ROM had crashed, i've never heard anything like this before, so i am hoping you guys will know whats wrong, when i get back later i will find out what the blue screen has on it and post it here, but i know when the electric ran out it seriously messed something up... I don't know how to fix it, and well if i have to re-install windows, then i'll just have to, but theres usually some other way.
Any one know what the problem might be? I try to open Internet Explorer but all i get is a white screen. When i try to open some files from my desktop a window pops up asking me if want to Open/Save the file. Im always asked if i want to open/save files even if theyre part of my system. I believe its a problem with explorer.
