Can Pictures Be Deleted From Background List In Display Properties

Aug 10, 2005

In Windows XP, is there any way to remove the list of "My Pictures" from the wallpaper (background) list in Display Properties? Every picture I've saved from the Internet and every picture I've saved from my digital camera appears in the list of background pictures that can be chosen from the "Desktop" tab in Display Properties. MOST of these pictures would be inappropriate as desktop wallpaper so I'd rather not have them as choices in the list (menu). In addition, there are hundreds of them! I don't want to delete them from "My Pictures" however.

Display Properties - Unavailable - Background Chosen Image

May 2, 2006

when I open my Display Properties and move to the Desktop tab and choose Browse to choose a picture to set as my background, after I have selected Open and the box closes, the Apply button is unavailable and the image I chose does not appear in my list or in the preview. I've also taken notice that certain images that were once in the list of available backgrounds images, such as Ascent, Autumn and Azul no longer appear to be available. Right clicking on an image and choosing Set as desktop background does not work, and neither does choosing the same option from the Picture Tasks. Does anybody have any idea what has happened and how I can restore whatever settings I may have changed without applying a system restore?

Display Issues- Have To Change Display Properties At Every Startup

I reinstalled XP Pro with SP1 on my computer today. Everything is working well except when my desktop loads the actual display is about an inch to the right on the screen. If I go into properties and change/apply the screen resolution from 800 x 600 then back to 1024 x 768 it realigns and all is well. I would just prefer to not have to do that each time I restart windows.

Display Settings Mishap: Getting Back Display Properties Box?

Sep 22, 2007

my mom installed a virus the other day on accident. (Some program called Dr. Spy Shreddar, or something like that.) I deleted it, but some stuff was weird with the computer. I tried restarting the system to get the old configuration back, but the virus just installed itself again. For one of the problems they made me go into the registry and set something to the value of 0 in order to get the desktop tab back in the Display Properties box. (You know when you right click on the desktop and select properties.) That's all fine and dandy, but here's the other 1/2 of my problem: I can't access some of the features in the tab.

How do I keep my jpgs, but eliminate them from the desktop backgrounds scroll list? (Display Properties-Desktop takes a looong tme to open now, because there are so many files in it). The same thing has happened recently on my wife's pc, also running XP.

Every Picture Save In My Pictures Ends Up In Wallpaper List

Feb 8, 2008

I had no idea where to put this thread, but since I am running XP Home SP2 I put it here. EVERY picture I save in "My Pictures" ends up in the list of available wallpapers in the display properties. My other computer did not do this, I had to manual choose a particular pic from my folders and then I could use it as a wallpaper. The pictures were not just routed there by default like it seems to be doing now. My big issue is the list is now ridiculously long & I don't know how to stop them from going there & undo the ones that are already on the list.

Problem: When accessing certain web sites (specifically amazon.com) I cannot get any of the pictures to display on the screen. All I get is an X where any picture is supposed to be. I have a laptop and a desktop both Dell and both running Windows XP SP2 and experiencing the same problem! use Netscape 7.0 and 8.0, IE 6.0 and Mozilla Firefox 1.0.3 and they are all acting the same way. This problem began about 4 days ago when a Microsoft automatic update was loaded onto both my systems. Once again, thank you in advance for your help! Now, I loaded up my main disk and my DISPLAY was all sorts of messed up. So I reinstalled my NvIdia drivers.. they work. BUT EVERY TIME I RESTART it goes back to being all kinds of messed up. And when I say messed up I mean the resolution is terrible and everything is all big and slow.

The default display pictures on my user accounts are gone (E.g. Skateboarder and Rubber Ducky). They just became the chess pieces picture, but then again, when I try to change them, all I can select from are my own pictures, the default ones are gone.

Also, "Shared Documents" became "Documents". When I try to open it, I can only find subfolders such as "My Music" which are empty, every single file I saved there is gone. I think they are deleted from the hard drive now? Because I noticed the space has increased by a few gigabytes, without uninstalliung anything.
