i had a spyware in my computer and that spyware changed my desktop pict and it was saying that i had spyware. so i used spydoctor to get rid of that,, but now i cant change my desktop picture. when i go to desktop properties background pictures are disabled.. im also attaching a picture what the display menu looks like.. cant even click on the pictures
I cannot change the desktop background by going to Settings>>Control panel>>Display>>Desktop due to subj. reason. Why is this option blocked & how to acivate it again ?
It may because I instilled some software. after that, everytime I open the "display properties"-->>"desktop",my computer will read "My pictures"folder, and trying to load all the pictures in the "Background" list.which are almost 2GB pictures.it is very slow, and my computer halted for a long time.
This isn't a problem as such.. it's just darned annoying. When I click the My Documents folder on my desktop, and open the My Pictures folder, it has the musical note background and no film strip facility.I know that the My Documents and My Pictures folders are deemed as System folders in XP and cannot be customized, but here's the thing.. If I open the explorer file tree and go to the Documents and Setting folder, and open the My Documents and My Pictures from inside it.
I'm running Windows XP. In the past few days, all of my jpg files in My Pictures have suddenly shown up on Display Properties-Desktop (in other words, instead of just the desktop background pictures that came with my Dell pc, suddenly all my personal pics are in the desktop backgrounds scroll list as well). How do I keep my jpgs, but eliminate them from the desktop backgrounds scroll list? (Display Properties-Desktop takes a looong tme to open now, because there are so many files in it). The same thing has happened recently on my wife's pc, also running XP.
In Windows XP, is there any way to remove the list of "My Pictures" from the wallpaper (background) list in Display Properties? Every picture I've saved from the Internet and every picture I've saved from my digital camera appears in the list of background pictures that can be chosen from the "Desktop" tab in Display Properties. MOST of these pictures would be inappropriate as desktop wallpaper so I'd rather not have them as choices in the list (menu). In addition, there are hundreds of them! I don't want to delete them from "My Pictures" however.
I want to put the pictures that I saved from the My Pictures folder back to the My Pictures folder. I have set one of them as the new desktop background. (It was before the format).I have typed in "Export Pictures from CD to My Pictures folder" without the quotes and I get a list of links pertaining to CD recording errors and other things like that. I did right click on a picture in Drive E (my CD-RW) just to see what would come up and I noticed that on the Send To menu that these pictures can be sent to the desktop.
I need to know how to save the pictures in the My Pictures folder to CD. I am going to format and reinstall XP Home and if I do, I will lose these pictures unless I save them.
I have taken a series of pictures on different days and downloaded them into a folder in My Pictures. I need to put them in a sequence so I right clicked each picture and re-named it as follows: 001jpg, 002jpg and so on for 100 pictures. In view, I selected arrange icons by modified and all the pictures moved to the sequence I wanted. All is well and good until I copied the folder to a CD. All the pictures reverted to their original sequence instead of the sequence I put them in.
How can I copy the folder with the pictures in the sequence I put them in? Whenever I open the picture file to look at that folder, they are always in the sequnce I put them in
I am using an old Dell with XP and Internet Explorer 7. When previewing some images I have stored in My Pictures, I find when using the 'previous' and 'next' buttons I am able to pull up the next or previous pictures as I should. But when I e-mail an image to myself and then use the 'next' or 'previous' buttons, I begin to get images from web sites I have recently visited even if it is just my home page. While scanning my home page, for instance, I collect dozens of images in a matter of minutes. The only change I have made recently is a download of info from a digital camera disc to enable me to store pictures from my new camera.
I did a system restore to a couple of days before that download but I'm still copying dots, dashes, logos and pictures or frames from videos.
I'm running a server and i was wondering if/how i can run it as a background process, the console screen is really annoying when minimised to the taskbar.
My system uses a SiS650 onboard graphics solution on a Windows XP computer, which obviously shares my main memory, and so i recently tried to fix this by installing a NVIDIA card. I had problems with the NVIDIA card, and so decided to remove it and go back to the onboard graphics. However, the onboard graphics card was listed in the hardware manager, but was said to have a fault and could not run. Another graphics option, Video Graphics Adapter, was listed beside it, and according to its properties was conflicting with the SiS.
So, I did the really smart and clever thing to do and disabled the Video Graphics Adapter, thinking that it would therefore allow the SiS to run without a conflict, and so restarted.
I imagine many of you are now rolling about with laughter, the OS wont be displayed at all, due to the fact i have most likely disabled ALL VGA cards...
I have tried booting in Safe Mode, but it doesnt work, it hangs, and i have tried booting in VGA mode, but again, it doesnt work.
Is there anyway to perhaps re-enable the VGA from the command line interface or something?
IE7 - Is there anyway to permanently get rid of the yellow "Internet Explorer is currently running with add-ons disabled" bar under the status bar at the top of the screen? I don't want to just disable "add-ons" - I want to get rid of that bar so it will stop reminding me.
i accidentally disabled all my users on my pc.now when i try to log on i get stuck on the page that says click on user name to log on but i got no user names.is there any way to log on .my os is windows xp.
After reformatting the HD and reinstalling XP, I find that my Inspiron laptop doesn't have Stand By or Hibernate options. When I close the lid and re-open it it's nonresponsive on a black screen until I turn it off with the Power button. I thought HAL.DLL was missing -- I got that error message once -- but it's there in SYSTEM32 and the bootlog shows it installed as a driver. Is there another driver missing? (I can't decipher all those short file names.) Might it be the wrong HAL, a generic one supplied with the XP Re-Install CD? How do I find out?
I have Windows XP, and I may have accidentely deleted "something" that rendered my desktop disabled. I have no Start button, icons, clock, nothing. Just my wallpaper. Right click doesnt do anything. Ive searched everywhere and cannot seem to get a legit answer. Im not that computer saavy but can follow directions!
I was trying to get rid of a virus and went into group policy gpedit.msc, and well kinda disabled everything. now i cant open any applications apart from. task manager and program directories control panel and No i cannot open regedit,Cmd.etc, So i am wondering, how do i revert the settings on group policy, so i can open things again. I am running windows XP service pack 2 hardware specs dont matter.
I'm trying to figure out a way to not have SP2 enable the windows firewall while installing. I sadly do not have access to active directory, but do have an NT4 domain and Symantec Solution Suite 1 which includes a console for pushing out files and commands. My problem so far is that anything I do after SP2 is installed, but before the machine reboots with regard to firewall settings seems to be overwritten on reboot.
SP3 disabled the DVD functions on my Averatec 3200 series XP laptop. The DVD drive is made by QSI. I know this is a world wide issue, but have not found a recovery. My Hard Drive failed and I replaced it and have re-loaded XP using the supplied recovery disks. The DVD functions still do not work. I'm starting to suspect that the Bios or maybe an e-prom on the DVD drive board may have been buggered, else the re-load should have brought back the DVD functions.
I was working this morning and I tried to put a flash drive in my usb port (one that I've used forever) and I got the following messages:"Administrator has restricted this computer to access usb/1394 mass storage devices"and "G:/ is not accessable Acess is denied" This is especially troubling for me since I've got to finish working on my syllabi and lessons for school and can't use my flash drive, plus I can't use my ipod, which is really irritating. I thought I was the administrator. I certainly haven't disabled anything at least not on purpose.
No matter what I do "Windows Installer Box" appears upon booting up and will freeze all other functions. Happens in normal or safe mode. Need to retrieve some documents or I would just let it go. What is the answer? Box does'nt say it is trying to install anything. If I hit cancel, it grays out and freezes everything else. Tried running msconfig but as soon as I hit OK, the box appears.
I have tried to follow instructions on loading my drivers for the Dell E153FP flat panal monitor.I did it once before and it worked. When I did a clean install od WinXP,when I get to the properties tab in the Monitor section, the tab is disabled and the monitor is not listed in the system devices. In the display section of monitor it is labeled as (Default Monitor),and will not let me in properties section.
My usb hub had a power shortage and was disabled. I clicked on the details button and it said that USB #8 was disabled and that I should unplug whatever is plugged into it and reset it.Well I don't know which port is number 8 but I unplugged one of the ports that I THOUGHT it might be and pushed reset. Everything else that's got a USB plug seems to be working.I also noticed last week that the USB ports in back of my computer at the very bottom have stopped working so I switched certain peripherals to be using my front ports. (digital camera)What could be causing my USB ports to malfunction like this?
hi, i have a real problem, my video card is disabled so when i load winxp all i get is a black screen, It loads ok i just cant see anything any help apreciated. Thank you
when i restart my computer, before the login screen, it says that my user account has been disabled.and then only lets me login to the guest account, which doesn't have administrator settings.
I tried to enable "Remote Desktop" on my machine (running Win XP Pro Sevice Pack 1), noticed that it is disabled, i.e., "Allow users to connect remotely to this computer" is greyed out. What's wrong?("Remote Assistance" is OK.
I have a situation that I am not able to resolve.A friend went into the display settings and disabled the display driver which shut down the video output when Windows XP runs. After the bios does the boot process, you can hear the Windows start up sound but there is no desktop. There is just a blank screen.I have attempted to boot in safe mode and no luck.I have tried to boot to the last good setting.I have also attempted to boot with an XP disk and repair, but there is an administrator password preventing me from going any farther with this option.
