My XP is currently defaulted on it's display settings 640v by 480 pixels and will not allow me to change it. In fact, there is nothing to change it to. I dont know what file I must of deleted, but is there anyway I can download the driver or something to make it so that it can be set on opitions that are higher?
View 7 RepliesOn my Dell 8250, I added a 1800 Flat Panel display and when I went to load the drivers, I found the Properties button greyed out. I went to device manager and no monitor was listed not even the Default Monitor. I've looked all over and can't find a clue on how to ungrey the Properties button.

I deleted it, but some stuff was weird with the computer. I tried restarting the system to get the old configuration back, but the virus just installed itself again.For one of the problems they made me go into the registry and set something to the value of 0 in order to get the desktop tab back in the Display Properties box. (You know when you right click on the desktop and select properties.) That's all fine and dandy, but here's the other 1/2 of my problem: I can't access some of the features in the tab.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI reinstalled XP Pro with SP1 on my computer today. Everything is working well except when my desktop loads the actual display is about an inch to the right on the screen. If I go into properties and change/apply the screen resolution from 800 x 600 then back to 1024 x 768 it realigns and all is well. I would just prefer to not have to do that each time I restart windows.

But if I change the settings before shutting down, the Display will have the new setting at Startup. As glitches go, I can live with it. It's not driving me to drink. But I'm curious. A friendly geek looked at it for about 2 hours and couldn't solve the problem. If there's anybody out there with nothing better to do --and this describes a lot of us-- have a look, will you? View 10 Replies View Relatedwhen I open some games, the screen is off center and there is a large black bar at the bottom of the screen and the top of the game screen is not visible. When I change the screen resolution or just the resolution or window for the game to run in, it does not make a difference. After searching for a long, long time, I came to the conclusion that perhaps the driver for my video card needs to be updated. I have no idea what my video card is so I was trying to find out.
When I right click the desktop to bring up the Display Properties and click on the Settings tab... when I try to click the Advanced button to bring up the properties for the monitor and video adapter, I get a Windows Error Message that reads:

I have the drivers I need for my monitor but the frackin thing wont let me use them.

View 14 Replies View RelatedMy friend installed a video game on his HP desktop (w/Windows XP) and changed the resolution settings to some odd selection that was 756x??? - something I had never seen before. Every time he loaded the game, it was illegible. In trying to change the display settings to make them compatible with the game, he chose this odd resolution (which was now available for some reason) for the desktop display settings, and now nothing can be read on the screen.

The monitor started showing graphic distortion. I ordered a new monitor but had the same distortion on it. I updated the ATI drivers but it did not solve the problem. In trying to trouble shoot the problem following directions on the ATI website, I changed all the graphic settings to the lowest and slowest available. This got rid of the distortion but the settings need to go! Now I cannot open the display settings.
View 3 Replies View RelatedAll my text/font display settings seem to have changed. I downloaded a freeware program today called avi2dvd, to convert avi video files to iso files for burning to DVD. I tried it out, got frustrated with it, and uninstalled it. After I uninstalled it, I went to check my email. That's when I first noticed that all the text in my yahoo email account had changed - it seemed smaller, like it was at a lower resolution.
I clicked on a few more pages and it was the same for all of them - the text was just not as...smooth. Not as readable. And definitely smaller. It's not just a font size thing, I'm not that much of a newbie, I tried enlarging the font and it's definitely a resolution thing, not just a font or size issue. Then I tried out some other programs, and found out that the problem was system-wide. I use a writing program called Final Draft, and the text in that is also less readable.I found one program that hadn't been affected: IE all my web pages display fine in Explorer.

When i right-click my desktop and choose properties, the panel that opens doesnt have any tabs.The weird thing, is when i click on the places of the tabs, the tab switches, but they r invisible, and much much more smaller... like, every tab is about 3-5 mm in length, aqnd i have to be accurate, click on something i cant c, with a small size.Another thing, when i change any setting, then press "Apply", the tabs r back normally, but when i reopen the panel, they r gone.

Awhile back when my computer was going cuckoo ( i think because my daughter went on that stupid kazaa infectious website!!!) Somehow pictures from a folder that had nothing to do with screensavers or wallpaper suddenly appeared as choices. Well i couldnt figure out how they got into that d.p. tab much less delete them but somehow i stumbled across a way to disable so no one could change it. well needless to say can't figure out how to enable it and was wondering how to fix it.

Now, I have two back up hdds and I they never format for some reason, so I was going to do it with the XP installer disc.. but I couldn't really figure out how to completely format/whipe any of my backup drives so I just cancelled out. Now, I loaded up my main disk and my DISPLAY was all sorts of messed up. So I reinstalled my NvIdia drivers.. they work. BUT EVERY TIME I RESTART it goes back to being all kinds of messed up. And when I say messed up I mean the resolution is terrible and everything is all big and slow.

I've tried various regentries (downloaded off the net mostly) to try and work this back in, but none of them work.i've also looked at the current user registry settings, and all are in shape. i'm running XP Home and so there's no group settings from the run menu, :s i can't imagine what it cuold be :S

I was able to remove it Ad-Aware SE, but once i was working with the computer again, I found that the tabs under "display properties" were missing. They included "Themes", "Desktop" and "Appearances". I already tried reinstalling XP and carefully reinstalling the ATI drivers, but i still only see the "screen saver" and "settings" tabs.
