Boot Failure: Popped Up / Blue Screen/ Shut Down To Prevent Damage?

Apr 25, 2005

My computer is not booting up. A while back while using my computer a blue screen popped up saying that windows encountered an error and that it would shut down to prevent damage. When that happened I simply restarted my computer and everything was fine. This happened one or two times later and everything was fine. Today it happened again and when I went to restart it it the blue screen popped up immediately after that. On the third time I went to restart it the computer just said boot failure and did nothing. Every time I try to restart it does the same thing. It will let me press f2 for the start up settings but when I press f8 for safe mode it does nothing.

The XP installed was SP1 and then I did all the WUDs up to now I where I have SP3. Also, during that period, I had done a repair install because of some error I was getting following installation of a WUD. I don't know if any of that will be relevant at all, but just thought I should mention it.

I ran the diagnostics for blue screen and hard drive errors - all tests passed. (This took several hours). I then tried to reboot from hard drive and got the same blue screen again. i then put in the Windows XP startup disk and came to the recovery console. Installer The System Administrator - Set Policies To Prevent Damage

Dec 4, 2007

Before I explain my problem, I'd like to say that this seems to be a registry problem. I tried installing Taksi three days ago and got this message "The system administrator has set policies to prevent this installation." and it didn't really bother me, checking out different software is a hobby of mine, it's not like I actually I needed it. I thought it was the developer's fault. But anyways, now I realize can't install anything that is packaged as an msi. I'm an administrator on my computer, but not the root, sadly. (I received the computer as a gift from someone who had no use for the computer and had forgotten their password.) First, I installed Windows Installer 3.1 over my current installation to no avail.
