Boot Failure: Popped Up / Blue Screen/ Shut Down To Prevent Damage?

Apr 25, 2005

My computer is not booting up. A while back while using my computer a blue screen popped up saying that windows encountered an error and that it would shut down to prevent damage. When that happened I simply restarted my computer and everything was fine. This happened one or two times later and everything was fine. Today it happened again and when I went to restart it it the blue screen popped up immediately after that. On the third time I went to restart it the computer just said boot failure and did nothing. Every time I try to restart it does the same thing. It will let me press f2 for the start up settings but when I press f8 for safe mode it does nothing.

Unmountable Boot Volume

Aug 28, 2008

I then went to the recovery console after booting from the XP CD and tried chkdsk /p with NO success. I was given a different BSoD with a new error relating to the ntfs.sys file and a stop code of: 0x00000024 (0x001902FE, 0xF78FE905, 0xF78FE600, 0xF7F8E2BD) referencing memory address F6F3E2BD @ F6EF0000.
I then ran the dell utility to check HDD structure and memory and the diagnostics came back clean ... NO errors, NO problems.I tried googling those stop codes, but didn't get anything useful back. I need some help with this please. Would copying a new ntfs.sys file help? I am using Acronis Disk Director Suite 10 to view file system and structure and I can see all the files on the disk from the Acronis CD and have the capability to edit files as well if that is needed. Someone please help ... I NEED to at least get this PC to a bootable state to transfer files off it.

Unmountable Boot Volume DURING Install

Nov 18, 2007

I'm stumped. Here's the case: I'm trying to install XP, but when I boot from the cd, everything is fine right until the second part of the install ("Press enter to continue installation"). After the preliminary copying of files, I just get a UNMOUNTABLE BOOT DEVICE-error.Here's the full story: I'm running Vista as my primary OS, but as I'm having some trouble with drivers (amazing, right?), I thought, I'd try an install of XP on a different HD. So I tried an install and got the error.I thought, okay, it's Vista messing up. I then unhooked the IDE HDD I was trying to install XP to and tried again, just to rule it out. Got the error again. I then unhooked the SATA drive Vista is on, leaving only the cd-rom and the IDE HDD in the comp. This time I thought it would work without problems, but no, I got the error again! I've tried 3 different IDE drives, 1 at a time of course, but I get the error everytime.

I've tried changing the cables, switch master and slave, looked at every option in the BIOS and used a RAID driver I got off my mobo manufacturers site (I don't see why that would help, as the SATA drive wasn't even used, but I had to try!).I've searched the internet high and low, and sure enough, there's a lot of experince with this error out there, but NONE AT ALL have gotten it during an install. Most solutions claim a chkdsk /r using recovery console might help, but as I can't get to the recovery console, I can't try it through XP... I can still boot Vista without any problems, so I ran a chkdsk /F /R using that, but no errors were found... But I'm starting to rule out the fault being in the HDD - I've simply tried too many different ones for that to be the case!

I have a Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 mobo, and I'm starting to think, this might be needing an update, but as there are three different revisions of this mobo, and I can't determine which one mine is, I can't find the correct update.I tried the online updater Gigabyte offers, but it only sugested som minor drivers for my LAN and audio card, which is already working perfectly. I usually manage to fix these problems by searching the net, but this time I'm completely lost! I know this is my first post here, but I really hope, someone is able to help me.

Unmountable Boot Volume Error

Oct 1, 2007

The whole stop error is: 0x000000ED (0x81FDB900, 0xc000009c, 0x00000000, 0x00000000) OK, so far, I got a copy of Windows XP Professional SP2. I have been trying and trying to get this stupid computer to work. I have attempted to access the recovery console, to no avail. If I hit the boot from CD ROM, it takes me to which operating system to start from I have TWO choices, (??) One is titled Windows XP Professional. If I click that one, it goes to windows startup page, then BSOD. If I click the other (it just says "Microsoft Windows"), it goes to c:/>, and any command I enter says Bad command or file name. No matter what else I hit, it goes to the Windows screen next and then to BSOD- unmountable boot volume and the previous stop error. Sometimes if Im really lucky (pfft!), I get a screen that says: To continue current upgrade to XP Professional press Enter To cancel current upgrade and install new version hit F10 Or to exit without installing windows hit F3 I dont think I should install the new copy of the OS because there is stuff on this drive the owner needs, pictures and such, and he wont be able to recover them if I write over them with a new OS, right? (Even though I have already tried hitting enter, it's the only option it will respond to- and it doesn't install the OS anyway).(He was not in the process of upgrading when all this went haywire). The last screen I can get is the one where you can start in safe mode, etc. But all of the options bring me ultimately to the BSOD.

Unmountable Boot Volume - Diagnostic Test

Dec 18, 2006

I made the dreadful mistake of turning on my computer just to remove a CD and then quickly turning it back off again without properly shutting down. I was shocked on Saturday morning to turn on my Computer and receive the "Unmountable Boot Volume" blue screen. I have tried everything - chkdsk /r, chkdsk, /p and nothing seems to work. I ran a diagnostic test as my computer passed but I can't figure out how to make it boot up again. I think there may be just one little step I must be missing or is there any other alternative that I can try before I have to reinstall Windows all over again???????? In my gut I don't believe there is anything seriously wrong with my computer - just my poor judgement in not shutting down correctly.

Crappy Acer Laptop Unmountable Boot Volume

I've been reading over quite a bit of stuff on this forum and you guys really seem to know what your talking about SOOOOO you can help me....I'm having the SAME ole mountable boot volume prob I've seen some of you help others out with in the past, the only thing that makes prob a bit different is the laptop is a crappy little acer one, and I know some of you said that you have to change the drivers and have put in the XP cd to do that, well the acer doesnt take CD's so what do I do now...this is REALLY important because I have a 7 month old daughter and about 3 months of her lifes pictures are on this acer and I will be destroyed if I loose those...I will give you guys ANY info you need.we have however tried safe mode, and went to f8 and tried from last known good config but then it goes to that black screen that gives a long list of I guess stuff its doing but it gets stuck on agpCPQ.sys

if that helps then goes to the blue screen about unmountable boot volume and this is a continuous cycle no matter what I push...
