I'm stumped. Here's the case: I'm trying to install XP, but when I boot from the cd, everything is fine right until the second part of the install ("Press enter to continue installation"). After the preliminary copying of files, I just get a UNMOUNTABLE BOOT DEVICE-error.Here's the full story: I'm running Vista as my primary OS, but as I'm having some trouble with drivers (amazing, right?), I thought, I'd try an install of XP on a different HD. So I tried an install and got the error.I thought, okay, it's Vista messing up. I then unhooked the IDE HDD I was trying to install XP to and tried again, just to rule it out. Got the error again. I then unhooked the SATA drive Vista is on, leaving only the cd-rom and the IDE HDD in the comp. This time I thought it would work without problems, but no, I got the error again! I've tried 3 different IDE drives, 1 at a time of course, but I get the error everytime.
I've tried changing the cables, switch master and slave, looked at every option in the BIOS and used a RAID driver I got off my mobo manufacturers site (I don't see why that would help, as the SATA drive wasn't even used, but I had to try!).I've searched the internet high and low, and sure enough, there's a lot of experince with this error out there, but NONE AT ALL have gotten it during an install. Most solutions claim a chkdsk /r using recovery console might help, but as I can't get to the recovery console, I can't try it through XP... I can still boot Vista without any problems, so I ran a chkdsk /F /R using that, but no errors were found... But I'm starting to rule out the fault being in the HDD - I've simply tried too many different ones for that to be the case!
I have a Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 mobo, and I'm starting to think, this might be needing an update, but as there are three different revisions of this mobo, and I can't determine which one mine is, I can't find the correct update.I tried the online updater Gigabyte offers, but it only sugested som minor drivers for my LAN and audio card, which is already working perfectly. I usually manage to fix these problems by searching the net, but this time I'm completely lost! I know this is my first post here, but I really hope, someone is able to help me.
i am using xp home on an hp pc (therefore no recovery discs). after a blackout, i got the unmountable boot volume blue screen. i have searched the forums, talked to hp and got the same answers. the problem is none of them work.i cannot restart in safe mode or last good configuration. a friend made the 6 xp set up floppy disks for me and theat gets me into the repair and once there, chkdsk does not work. i have tried both /p and /r and both times i get the message: autochk.exe could not be located in either the startup directory or the cdrom drive.type the full path <including drive letter> for the location of autochk.exe
when I woke up this morning and booted up the computer, I noticed it kept restarting. So, I pressed F8 at startup and tried don't restart after system failure. I figured out what the it was. It was the blue screen of death telling me I had a Unmountable Boot Volume. I have tried all the other options to restart windows, even prompt doesn't work.
I own a HP Computer (HP Pavilion a630n Desktop PC) whenever I try to boot up my computer I get a error about Unmountable_boot_volume, my computer is running windows XP, I try to bypass this but no matter what I go to it keeps coming up with that error, I try going to safe mode, networking safe mode and the other options I have but it still keeps coming up, How can I get rid of this? Also it comes up as BSOD (Blue Screen Of Death)
I then went to the recovery console after booting from the XP CD and tried chkdsk /p with NO success. I was given a different BSoD with a new error relating to the ntfs.sys file and a stop code of: 0x00000024 (0x001902FE, 0xF78FE905, 0xF78FE600, 0xF7F8E2BD) referencing memory address F6F3E2BD @ F6EF0000. I then ran the dell utility to check HDD structure and memory and the diagnostics came back clean ... NO errors, NO problems.I tried googling those stop codes, but didn't get anything useful back. I need some help with this please. Would copying a new ntfs.sys file help? I am using Acronis Disk Director Suite 10 to view file system and structure and I can see all the files on the disk from the Acronis CD and have the capability to edit files as well if that is needed. Someone please help ... I NEED to at least get this PC to a bootable state to transfer files off it.
This is what the BSOD tells me when I try to boot up.I can't boot in safe mode or anything.I'm taking it to a tech in a little while but I want to know what to expect when I get there. Is this a lost cause? Or can it be fixed?I'm on a dell dimension desktop 455 Windows XP SP It's about 2 years old.
I am having a problem loading windows xp home edition. When I try to load windows system takes me to a DOS screen that says the system was intruped. Please choose one of the listed. Every choice takes you to a reload of windows xp and back to the same problem Unmountable Boot Volume. I downloaded a boot disk but the system does not let it boot.
Blue screen w/ msg "Unmountable boot volume"Attempted safe mode -no go attempted last known good configuration -no goUsed Windows XP boot disks -attempted torepair Error message said I have no hard disks.
My son tried to boot up the other day and got the message Sorry windows can't start" unmountable boot volume". I went to Microsoft's web site and followed the directions on running chkdsk and got it to boot. I ran Spybot and Adaware and defragged the drive and rebooted with no problem. Today he got the same message and same problem. I thought the the hard drive might be going bad but it is not making any unusual noise
The whole stop error is: 0x000000ED (0x81FDB900, 0xc000009c, 0x00000000, 0x00000000) OK, so far, I got a copy of Windows XP Professional SP2. I have been trying and trying to get this stupid computer to work. I have attempted to access the recovery console, to no avail. If I hit the boot from CD ROM, it takes me to which operating system to start from I have TWO choices, (??) One is titled Windows XP Professional. If I click that one, it goes to windows startup page, then BSOD. If I click the other (it just says "Microsoft Windows"), it goes to c:/>, and any command I enter says Bad command or file name. No matter what else I hit, it goes to the Windows screen next and then to BSOD- unmountable boot volume and the previous stop error. Sometimes if Im really lucky (pfft!), I get a screen that says: To continue current upgrade to XP Professional press Enter To cancel current upgrade and install new version hit F10 Or to exit without installing windows hit F3 I dont think I should install the new copy of the OS because there is stuff on this drive the owner needs, pictures and such, and he wont be able to recover them if I write over them with a new OS, right? (Even though I have already tried hitting enter, it's the only option it will respond to- and it doesn't install the OS anyway).(He was not in the process of upgrading when all this went haywire). The last screen I can get is the one where you can start in safe mode, etc. But all of the options bring me ultimately to the BSOD.
I have xp professional and my computer had alot of random viruses on it. So I decided to format the hard drive just to start a new. When I go to reinstall windows right before the screen you can pick to repair or install windows I get the blue screen of death.
I have a laptop, Sony Vio, and I am getting this error message "Unmountable Boot Volume". It won't boot in safe mode, or last known good...etc, or anything else. I have the restore cd's, but that prompts me to reformat the hard drive and I don't want to do that and lose everything. Back in '99 when I was in school I had the similar problem with my desktop and everyone said I would have to reformat, but my teacher did a few things and brought back the volume without losing anything but of course that was many moons ago.
I am just wondering if there is any way we can fix this unmountable boot volume problem with out using the xp disk. I have tried getting into safe mode with command prompt but we still get the lovely blue screen of death.. Is there any other way to get around it or do I need the disk to do a repair fixboot
I made the dreadful mistake of turning on my computer just to remove a CD and then quickly turning it back off again without properly shutting down. I was shocked on Saturday morning to turn on my Computer and receive the "Unmountable Boot Volume" blue screen. I have tried everything - chkdsk /r, chkdsk, /p and nothing seems to work. I ran a diagnostic test as my computer passed but I can't figure out how to make it boot up again. I think there may be just one little step I must be missing or is there any other alternative that I can try before I have to reinstall Windows all over again???????? In my gut I don't believe there is anything seriously wrong with my computer - just my poor judgement in not shutting down correctly.
My laptop won't even start windows in safe mode. I have the following blue screen:A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.UNMOUNTABLE _BOOT_PROBLEM then a heap of stuff about checking the installation of any hardware or software. Technical information ***STOP: OXOOOOOOED (Ox8433BDD, OXCOOOOO9C,OXOOOOOOOO, OXOOOOOOOO)
I am getting the unmountable boot volume when trying to boot up my dell computer. It tell me to restart in safe mode it shows a blue screen that says there was an error when iogged off.It says to start in safe mode ,but that dont work i tried everything and it comes back to the blue screen that says to start in blue screen and also says Stop 0x000000ed along with some different codes.I wish I knew what these codes were maybe i'd know what is wrong. Also i cant run the windows disk cause my cd rom don't work it's broke. So i copied it from family's comp. onto floppy disk and i can't get it to run on myy computer it just wont go to the recovery, nor can i figure out how to get into bios.
I have a Toshiba T9100 laptop, and recently while I was listening to some music with Windows Media Player it suddenly crashed, showing a blue screen with the error description 'Unmountable Boot Volume'. When I try to restart it, a black screen appears saying:We apologize for any inconvienience, but Windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware or software change might have caused this.
I was transfering music and word files from my ipod to my computer when a window popped up saying something like "C" drive does not have room. Continue? I pressed cancel and went into my music files to delet some files to clear room. All of a sudden I encountered the blue screen of death! With error "unmountable boot volume". So far I have tried (without success):-Safe Mode-Last know configuration-chckdsk /r-chckdsk /p"Fixboot" recovery console windowxp this says it is looking for F:minint (when it is supposed to be looking for C:windows)-using harddrive as slave in secondary computer to run recovery majority of files came up as "file is unreadable"do not have a floppy drive so couldnt run the manufacturer utillities off web.
Last night Windows automatically began to install updates as I was logging off. By the time I realised, I had turned the power supply off the computer had therefore not shut down properly.Tried to swith on today and I get a "Windows did not start successfuly message" with a range of options including safe mode, safe mode with networking, safe mode with command prompt, last known good configuration or start normally. No matter which one I choose, it gets as far as the XP loading screen then reverts back to the "Windows did not start successfully" screen.I therefore did the F8 after the Bios which took me to the advanced options menu. I disabled the auto restart and I get an error Unmountable Boot Volume - error code 0x000000ED.
Whenever i turn on my computer it says Unmountable_boot_volume so after a while of searching around, i found that i needed to use the Recovery Console , but whenever i press the key R to recover it, it says Examining 152587 MB Disk 0 at Id 0 on bus 0 on iastor. at the bottom, and it stays like that.
my laptop keeps having this unmountable boot volume blue screen appear when trying to start comp.. it wont go passe this and i cannot get the comp to start through windows.. i dont have xp disk i dont have anything . how can i get rid of this.. im not that up with comps when they not working.
On my xp machine i get an unmountable boot volume error. Which says my boot.ini file may be corrupted. So im attempting to reformat but even with my xp disk in i still get the same error followed by a choice to restore previous settings, and two other choices which all end in a blue screen.Does the hard drive need to be or Is there anyway i can boot up in dos to reformat?
I've been reading over quite a bit of stuff on this forum and you guys really seem to know what your talking about SOOOOO you can help me....I'm having the SAME ole mountable boot volume prob I've seen some of you help others out with in the past, the only thing that makes prob a bit different is the laptop is a crappy little acer one, and I know some of you said that you have to change the drivers and have put in the XP cd to do that, well the acer doesnt take CD's so what do I do now...this is REALLY important because I have a 7 month old daughter and about 3 months of her lifes pictures are on this acer and I will be destroyed if I loose those...I will give you guys ANY info you need.we have however tried safe mode, and went to f8 and tried from last known good config but then it goes to that black screen that gives a long list of I guess stuff its doing but it gets stuck on agpCPQ.sys
if that helps then goes to the blue screen about unmountable boot volume and this is a continuous cycle no matter what I push...
After a current power outage, my screen came up blue with the following information: unmountable_boot_volume..blue screen reads:if problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software(nothing new or added). disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use Safe Mode to remove or disale compnents, restart you computer, press F8 to select advanced Startup Options, and then select Safe Mode. All this has been tried and the blue screen continues to come up.
I am getting the dreaded unmountable boot volume error code. I have a dell lattitude cpxI have installed the windows xp cd and booted up I get into the Recovery console and this is what the screen saysMicrosfot Windows XP (TM) Recovery ConsoleThe Recoevery Console provides system repair and recovery functionality. Type exitt to quit the Recovery Console and retart the computerThe path or file specified is not valid.C: >fixboot
I got a computer to repair. This is the problem 'Unmountable Boot Volume'. Unfortunatelly any chckdsk from bootable Windows not working. I mean stoped at 46% few hours. I also tryed connect to another computer and run some tools, but same result. I'am allowed to open all data on disk, but can't recover system.
So my desktop was switched on today to the blue screen saying "Unmountable_Boot_Volume". I tried restarting, I got the same thing. Restarting in safe mode and restarting in safe mode command prompt both brought me to the same thing. I DON'T have the Windows XP CD.
I've got a Gateway laptop and it's giving me the unmountable boot volume blue screen of death at start up. I've scoured the internet and all the solutions tell me I need to use the Windows setup screen to get to the recovery console. My problem is that my computer never gets to the setup screen. I restart with the gateway XP disk and it looks like it's setting up, but then nothing happens, and I don't get any sort of screen that lets me access the recovery console. Is there any other way to get this thing working again, my finals are due the end of this week, and all my most recent/finished files are on this thing.
i'm getting really desperate here. Heres my problem I was on my fully functional computer last night, here are the specs
-Windows XP Home -512 DDR ram -Geforce FX 5200 -Intel Pentium 4 -i865Gm-IL **NEW** motherboard (funtioned perfectly)
Alright, last night, the power went out while i was on the computer. When the power comes back on, i get a blue screen saying
UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME
I absolutely CANNOT get past this screen, i've tried booting in safe mode, and still get nothing. I've tried TONS of commands from the recovery console. When I load up the console it asks me to choose either D:MiniNT (Which i believe is not what i use) and D:I386 I've tried the following commands on BOTH d:MininNT and D:I386
chkdsk /r chkdsk /f chkdsk /p fixboot fixmbr
I've tried them all, and i get the exact same error, i was on the phone with a good friend whos a comp technician and he had no answers, then I phoned the mobo company, still no answers. I've tried unplugging my HDD, still nothing. I am TOTALLY lost!! could someone
When booting up to Windows XP disc, i get an error screen that reads: Unmountable_Boot_Volume The problem is that the error screen appears before I can even get to the Windows Setup Welcome screen. So I can't even perform a recovery console procedure. I don't need the files on my hard drive anymore, I just need the computer working.
