Installer The System Administrator - Set Policies To Prevent Damage

Before I explain my problem, I'd like to say that this seems to be a registry problem. I tried installing Taksi three days ago and got this message "The system administrator has set policies to prevent this installation." and it didn't really bother me, checking out different software is a hobby of mine, it's not like I actually I needed it. I thought it was the developer's fault. But anyways, now I realize can't install anything that is packaged as an msi. I'm an administrator on my computer, but not the root, sadly. (I received the computer as a gift from someone who had no use for the computer and had forgotten their password.) First, I installed Windows Installer 3.1 over my current installation to no avail. It has an MSI board, Celeron D cedermill at 2.2ghz. Western Digital 160gb sata drive. I don't think any of that really matters, but heres the problem. When trying to install windows XP, after loading all the drivers it needs and it gets to 'starting windows' a blue screen comes up saying something like 'your system was turned off to prevent further damage. The hard drive works fine in another system, and so doesn't installing xp. I put the hard drive with xp installed. It tries to load, same screen. But it installs windows 2000 without glitch.

My dell 9100 got a virus (Trojan horse XP antivirus) I got it off but avg anti virus would not update could not change the screen saver it posted and began getting the dreaded blue death screen problem has been detected and windows has shut down to prevent damage. the stop message is 0x0000008e (0xc0000005, 0xf84ca245,oxf808d7b4,0x00000000). So i reformatted the hard drive and when I go to reload xp it does not recognize the dell xp/media edition dvd. I have an XP home edition so I tried it and it allows me to get to the point where you partition the drive and then i get the same error message

This problem just started yesterday, all because i think of when the power breaker went. It was in the middle of Shutting down windows and the power breaker went so my computer got shut off incorrectly. I started getting a memory dump screen when i tried to log into windows. So i put in the windows disk and did a Repair Install. that worked fine, I got it working and everything. Then I got a windows update installed from MS website... the whole Automatic Updare thing. Then I went to restart the comp cuz it was required, then my system could not load past the login screen, just always did a memory dump. so i went and tryed to Repair windows again, now i get this error

I have recently been getting a "blue screen of death" or windows crash screen and have been trying to get a solution. I was running a computer game several days ago and began to notice crackling in the speakers every now and then and became concerned. So first of all, I have a Dell Inspiron 600m with Windows XP Home SP3. Some background info that may or may not be relevant: I just had this OS installed though the computer is several years old (I had an ingenuine XP Pro before I cleared my C drive and installed a genuine XP Home). The XP installed was SP1 and then I did all the WUDs up to now I where I have SP3. Also, during that period, I had done a repair install because of some error I was getting following installation of a WUD. I don't know if any of that will be relevant at all, but just thought I should mention it.

I was recently trying to install Medieval Total War II onto my computer. I've had it installed before in the past, and it worked fine on my computer. I wanted to play it again, so when I went to install it it gave me the blue screen. My computer is not booting up. A while back while using my computer a blue screen popped up saying that windows encountered an error and that it would shut down to prevent damage. When that happened I simply restarted my computer and everything was fine. This happened one or two times later and everything was fine. Today it happened again and when I went to restart it it the blue screen popped up immediately after that. On the third time I went to restart it the computer just said boot failure and did nothing. Every time I try to restart it does the same thing. It will let me press f2 for the start up settings but when I press f8 for safe mode it does nothing.

She can't get into windows at all. When I turn on her computer it goes to a black screen that gives me a choice to boot in safe mode, safe mode with command prompt, last known good configuration. It is Windows XP Dell Laptop. I've tried them all, everytime it just goes straight to the same Blue Screen with same message.
She doesnt have a recovery cd with her.

when I try to start up windows I get the screen with the windows xp logo and the bar thingy that runs through the box. It looks something like this picture I made in MS Paint. Yeah, well you get the idea. I'm thinking it could have damaged one of the system files, something similar happened to my uncle. He was shutting down his computer and he all of a sudden pulled the power and his computer went dead because it was the exact wrong time to pull the power.

My Toshiba Tecra came with 7 preset power policies, as normally accessed from Control Panel. I've added 2 of my own. When editing one of these to change "close the lid" from hibernate to standby, I got a dialog box with a message that said, approximately "change levels incompatible". After that, only two power policies show, "home office/desk" and "portable/laptop". I searched the registry for "Toshiba power" to find references to the custom profiles Toshiba loads. One of these, number 10, appears to be empty or blank. Number 11 is one I defined and deleted after the problem.I'd like to recover the use of these profiles. I have a registry backup from about a week ago if that helps.

I was working on someones computer when I noticed you couldn't do certain things in internet explorer. One example of this is using panda active scan. When I try to click on scan now, nothing happens. I've also noticed that sfc /scannow denies me from running and throws some administrative error back. However, the user IS an administrator. In her daughters account, none of this happens.How can I get to local security policies in Windows XP Home? It is NOT listed under Adminstrative tools and does not exist when I goto run and type in secpol.msc.Is there any program or anything I can do to bring all security policies for this user back to default. Some malicious program did this I'm assuming because I cleaned out the computer before this happened. I cannot post a Hijackthis log because the computer is not with me at the moment but I did have the owner check for any internet explorer restrictions and none are present.

I have set up another user on my computer. They have a restricted account. But I would like to tighten it up more. When I look at the Group Policy Editor (gpedit.msc) I don't seem to be able to specify a single account. Is there another Policy editor for individuals or is there another way I can restrict what a person can do?

I have a very strange problem in my dell inspiron 6000 running win xp sp3. Registry editing and task manager have been disabled by restrictive policies that are executed at startup. I worked my way using group policy editor (gpedit.msc) but the changes show no effect on these policies. They keep coming again and again no matter how many times i delete their registry keys. Their location is KCUSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrent VersionPoliciessystem and the keys are "DisableRegistryTools" and "DisableTaskMgr". I tried every known malwarespywareadware remover found on the internet (HJT, ComboFix, SmitFraudFix, AVZ etc.,) but these policies wont go away gpedit.msc is now corrupt in my laptop because i messed with it and Kaspersky Antivirus 2010 doesnt run after installation. The shell menu item "Scan for Viruses" is grayed out for no apparent reason. Not even one AV software works properly in my 4yr old Dell

OS : windows XP Pro sp3Problem : We have a machine that has lost Scanner and Camera wizard from autoplay a few days ago after we moved this PC from a local Workgroup to a Domain. After moving it to the domain with the new user, we copied the Windows profile from the old local user to to the new domain user. We currently do not have any group policies configured to disable auto play. When I log in with the username into the old local account the Wizard pops up fine. It is something related to the user/profile change. When we plug the camera into the computer autoplay works and recognises that the camera has pictures but there are no options to transfer pictures in the pop up box. i have tried a a few reg edits , we do not have Real Player, No luck with Windows autoplay repair wizard either.

I have a computer running XP Home with no service pack. I removed several viruses from the computer. Sasser.E , W32.Korgo.V, Sw32.spybot.KHC. If i try to add or remove software that uses the windows installer if hangs and will not proceed. I get the message 'Install service not responding'. I tried starting the service manualy but i get the message 'error 1053 The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion'.I tried installing SP2 but when the computer restarted all i got was a blank desktop. I installed the latest version of Windows Installer and it made no difference
