Unable To Use Installer: System Hangs & Wont Proceed?
Jul 22, 2005
I have a computer running XP Home with no service pack. I removed several viruses from the computer. Sasser.E , W32.Korgo.V, Sw32.spybot.KHC. If i try to add or remove software that uses the windows installer if hangs and will not proceed. I get the message 'Install service not responding'. I tried starting the service manualy but i get the message 'error 1053 The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion'.I tried installing SP2 but when the computer restarted all i got was a blank desktop. I installed the latest version of Windows Installer and it made no difference
I'm having a problem with my XP laptop. I've been hibernating my laptop daily for the past couple of years. Recently after waking up from every hibernation, the laptop gives the following error message:System restart has been paused:Continue with system restart.Delete restoration data and proceed to system boot menu. After that it boots into Windows, however i lose all of my open programs which is rather annoying. Does anyone know how to resolve this?
When trying to uninstall NET.Framework, to reinstall it, Windows Installer hangs. Gives message about registration, but no reference on how to do it. Windows installer works to install other updates.
I log on to a couple of sites and it says I need Cookies enabled to proceed, yet I know I do have Cookies enabled. This only happens on a couple of sites, Excite email for one. Other sites where I know I need Cookies are fine. Win XP.
I an constantly get this message (delays anything opening) whenever I go to open anything (programs, web sites, internet, links, etc.). I need help in simple, user friendly steps.
i was trying to install an application from its installer. And i accidentally went to "open with" and selected another program, thus the installer package always opens in the other progam and does not run. I was wondering if there is a way to undo this process
Computer handed to me for problem fixing (here fix) - had a virus of some kind (unknown) someone else tried to resolve unsuccessfully.Windows XP SP2 (HP Pavilion Media Center Pc I've started to investigate...Windows installer problem unable to load / unload some programs.Specifically as a test I'm tryin gto remove Windows Defender from the Add/Remove programs - unsuccessful get message...The Windows installer Service could not be accessed.
I had tried booting the XP cd from the CDROM but it will result in a screen containing some message by Caldera Dr-Dos. It states that there is a program that is faulty. Therefore, what can I do to solve this problem for I intended to format my c:.
I had a virus problem which was solved in security forum. Later a fresh problem started with MS office 2K. When ever I started any office application windows installer window popped up & the application started freezing up.I tried to un-install the Office Suite through Add/Remove programmes but same problem occured. So i tried un-installation by eraser2K programme, which did the un-installation.Now I am unable to re-install Office suite.
I'm having the access is denied problem.I've tried many times fixing it manually through regedit and such, but it still doesn't work.but my Windows Installer is also broken so I can't install subinacl. I can however install setacl which seems very similar. I'm not good enough with computers to use command line programs without simple instructions laid out for me
Tried to open Control Panel to uninstall and start using Office XP Small Business -- message: "error occurred while windows was working with...CoPM.cpl in System 32." Microsoft tech suport referred me to start/run appwiz, and remove Visual IP InSight -- but that file wasn't on the list of programs. I removed an un-named installer from the top of the list, thinking that was the culprit.Since then, Windows Installer dialog box pops up whenever I open Explorer or any other program. Microsoft tech support referred me to Article 261594 (Modify the Registry). Can now load Ofice 2000 without the installer popping up.
On one of my older computers running windows xp, i am having a annoying problem. Most of the time when i try to play a video on it, it will have a little windows installer window pop up(i had the ace mega codec pack installed on but it was really bad and kept me from even playing video so i uninstalled it)it has been a while since i used that pc but now i have it plugged up to a tv and a speaker system in my room and am not in for reinstalling windows (everything else runs 100% fine very fast and smooth)
Before I explain my problem, I'd like to say that this seems to be a registry problem. I tried installing Taksi three days ago and got this message "The system administrator has set policies to prevent this installation." and it didn't really bother me, checking out different software is a hobby of mine, it's not like I actually I needed it. I thought it was the developer's fault. But anyways, now I realize can't install anything that is packaged as an msi. I'm an administrator on my computer, but not the root, sadly. (I received the computer as a gift from someone who had no use for the computer and had forgotten their password.) First, I installed Windows Installer 3.1 over my current installation to no avail. After awhile, I found this: http://support.microsoft.com/default...;en-us;Q227181
Error 1321. The Installer has insufficient privileges to modify the file C:Program FilesCommon FilesJavaUpdateBase Imagesjre1.6.0.b105core3.zip. I'm using a Compaq 6470NX, running XP. I recently had to do a recovery and of course lost everything. I'm now trying to re-do stuff. I'm sure I'll have a lot more to ask. The error above came when trying to install a java runtime and I've gotten it for other things as well.
I've had triple boot on my PC, 1st partition Windows Vista, 2nd partition Windows XP and on the other 3 partitions Debian Ubuntu (extended partition). I'm using Grub as my boot loader, everything was working fine, booting all 3 OSs was no problem. About 3 months ago my Vista OS stoped working (because I did some bad things with it) ... actually it isn't that important how I did that, because XP kept working (and Linux, of course, too). Like 2 weeks ago I decided to remove Vista, so I removed it using gParted by simply formating the 1st partition to an empty partition. Now my XP stoped working I thought it was because the boot.ini was placed on Vista's partition. So I used my XP installation CD to do fixboot etc, even fixmbr and I ran a chkdsk over the XP partition.
I am using TG Dreambook J7 with XP2 Prof. Edition. i want to reformat my hard disk coz windows hangs up during boot.. i have an external dvdrom via USB. every time i boot i got "insert system disk".i could not boot using my external dvdrom.
Looking for some help, started having problems yesterday when i noticed that my PC took a bit longer to boot than usual.I've had a few crashed when writing to disk, i presume this as i was downloading a dj mix (perfectly legit, from a music forum!) and the screen would freeze, no error messages and i had to turn off. Same thing happened again, i defragged my drive and still has issues, almost freezing, stuttering but if i stop surfing, it recovers.System is C2D E6400, Segate SATA 160GB, 1GB Corsair value ram no over clocking.
stays hung for about 52 seconds, then unhangs for 52 seconds, then hangs for 52 seconds, I am running an older Compaq desktop with a Pentium III processor, and a 30 GB hard drive (approx. 11 GB free). The system has 256k RAM.It is running Windows XP Home Edition, Service Pack 2 (build 2600.xpsp_sp2_gdr.050301_1519). It also has Norton Internet Security 2004 (v7.0.6.17) and Norton Antivirus (10.0.1.13) with current virus definitions.Sometime in mid-September, my husband (who uses this machine, not me) complained that the machine was hanging on a regular basis. He bought and installed System Mechanic 5 from ioio. (No other new software or hardware was installed immediately prior to the appearance of the problem.)He found a number of problems, cleaned them up, defragged the disk, but the hanging problem remained..
He asked me for my help several days ago, and using the information gleaned from this site, we've downloaded and run the Ewido 3.5 scan (and fix - both free), and then Xoftspy v4.16. I purchased a registration key for Xoftspy, and we've run the fix utility from that, cleaning up the threats, but the hanging problem remains.I'm attaching a log that was created tonight from Hijackthis v1.99.1 in the hopes that you can save us from this problem! I have better things to do than struggle with this.
IE8 downloaded and hangs. tried to cancel and it just stayed on the screen running the IE8 downloading screen. I used the start menu to shutdown the pc. on restart it lets me go to the bios. nothing I see there helps. I know just enough here to be dangerous restart if I pump the esc button the option to "start from" appears, but, if I choose anything it just hangs. I cannot access safe mode by pressing f8. it does nothing . goes to a black DOS like screen with a blinking cursor won't let me type anything and beeps at me except it will let me turn num lock on and off and use crtl+alt+delete to restart
So I'm running XP on a pretty decent laptop... 3 GHz P4 768 DDR 64 MB Radeon 60 GB HD(40GB free) The problem i am having is that when i right click on a FILE i get the hourglass for about 10 seconds and just the context menu is not loading. Nothing else on my computer is hanging. When i right click on a FOLDER it goes instantly.I KNOW WHAT YOUR THINKING, that i have some shell extension installed to do something special with files. Well, just to prove that wrong beforehand... I have two external hard drives. When i right click on a FILE located on one of those drives, it goes instantly. So i thought maybe it was my hard drive... So i moved 30 gigs of music off of it, and i defraged it.
I have an old computer. My uncle threw it together from scraps and sent it to me. It ran very well for about a year or two. It runs off Windows XP Professional. The problem with it now, and i just cannot figure it out, is when i go to start the computer. The computer boots normally, and so does windows, however when it displays "windows XP" just before showing the users list, it freezes. The mouse still is able to move, but it is as if there is no more users at all on the computer. I have been tinkering with it for over a year and still cannot find a way of getting into it, or getting it to work. Reformatting the computer is not an option because i have important information on the hard disk. Got any advice?
I've got a problem with my PC and I'm trying to solve it without reinstalling Windows. When I launch certain programs or games system just hangs and stays like that until I restart it...It does this with totally random things like: on final 'Release date check' of GTAIV installation (which worked some year ago onsame Windows)when opening video feed from SB Audigy 2 ZS Video Editorhappened a few times without running anything but very rarelystarting BioShock 2 pressing PrintScreen (didnt happen until I added Logitech G19 to my PC)
When attempting to install win xp home edition sp2 my systems hangs on the creating cabs creating file sp2.cab. This has happened several times. As a result i,m unable to install sp2, I currently have service packs 1 and 1a installed.
mi pc hangs always in 3x% percent i removes all devices and try again ..low format to my hdchange ramchange hd update biosreset cmoscheck temp nothing worksalways crash
Ok this morning i downloaded the new itunes 7 an when I went to use it the songs were all distorted an it locks up my system. So if youre thinking of downloading it I wouldn't do it. an does anyone know where I can get a link to the itunes 6.
Using XP Pro - installed SP2 two days ago. I did everything recommended prior to install, such as updating everything possible (including BIOS). Ad-Aware and NAV 2004 (up to date) both indicate a clean system. NAV 2004 disabled during SP2 install. Defragmented and checked disc, etc, etc.Since installing SP2, System Restore has stopped working. I noticed it first when auto update downloaded updates after the SP2 install. When I tried to install them, the install just hung (because it tries to create a restore point prior to installing the updates, and System Restore won't run). So I can't install updates either. I'm not even sure what 'HarddiskVolume2' refers to? I only have one disk (C with a very standard XP Pro configuration. In September last year I tried installing SP2 but ran into the same problem. I spent days trying to sort it out, but eventually the MS people recommended I remove SP2. They said it may have been a corrupted download, so this time I ordered the CD. This install was from the CD, but exactly the same problems have occurred.Booting in safe mode doesn't help because it doesn't let you create a restore point, only to restore to a previously created one.System Restore was working perfectly for 2 years prior to this under SP1. I would rather not turn it off, because I don't want to lose the restore points I have to get back before the SP2 install! What else can I do???
I installed a clean win xp professional OS on a new rig (quad processor), no issues. Then I did a Acronis recovery from a uniprocessor pc, and installed the correct mobo drivers. Still no issues. The I did a restart and a repair install to load the mobo sata and AHCI drivers. The pc restarts, but everytime I open a program from windows, for example Windows Explorer, or Software from the configuration screen, or Network Connections, I get a window with "Windows Installer", waiting for something to load. The version of windows on my old pc is sp3, after the repair install (I used a win xp slipstreamed with sp2), I see sp2 on my info screen of computer properties.
I currently update my Windows XP home edition os to SP2 after that when I on the desktop right clicking my system will hanged and i have to terminate it with task manager and re open it.
what i must do to fix this problem.I deleted the $uninstall..$ folders and can not reinstall my windows.
I am running Windows XP, and a number of system upgrades were downloaded and being installed during shutdown. Unfortunately, the power got turned off partway through this, and now the computer won't boot up. I tried putting the Windows CD in to run a repair installation, but it still gets stuck.I get the "Press any key to boot from CD" message, but when I press a key there are two lines of text that appear and disappear too quickly for me to read them, and then it goes to a blank screen with flashing cursor, and doesn't do anything else.
I did a big no no I know. I changed a key in the registery without backing up. I am now unable to run .exe files. For example I am tring to install drivers for a USB PCI 2.0 card. I entered in the disk and double click on .exe file and get error> Cannot find the file d:usb2.0 cardviavia6202setup.exe. Make sure the path and the filename are correct and that all required libraries are available. This error is consistant when I try and run any .exe file. 2nd example start>run>iexplore.exe get error cannot find file iexplore.exe. Make sure..... and the rest of the error message. This started when I was tring to manually remove a virus. I followed the directions from this website. http://www.symantec.com/security_res...445-99&tabid=3 see step 6 Delete the current value data, and then type: "%1" %* quote-percent-one-quote-space-percent-asterisk.
