When trying to uninstall NET.Framework, to reinstall it, Windows Installer hangs. Gives message about registration, but no reference on how to do it. Windows installer works to install other updates.
View 14 RepliesMy .net Framework is erroring out when I try to open Sony Vegas. I upgraded to 3.0 but that did nothing. I went back to 2.0 and am still getting errors. Also, whenever I try to install a various list of programs, I get this error:"This installation package could not be opened. Verify that the package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows installer package."

View 2 Replies View RelatedI need help to uninstall Microsoft Net Framework 1.1 hotfix, (KB886904) please. I have WXP Pro SP2. When I try to uninstall the hotfix from add/rem. I get "The upgrade patch cannot be installed because program to be upgraded may be missing" . I have installed 'Windows install cleanup', and when I open it the hotfix is not listed. Prior to the hotfix being installed on my computer by Windows update, I had Microsoft Net Framework 1.1 listed twice in add/rem, but when I tried to uninstall it,it came up that it was not installed so it could not be uninstalled. I got rid of it with a 3rd party uninstaller. I have also Net Framework 2.0 installed by Windows Update. Windows update also tried to reinstall Net Framework 1.1 but failed. So I would appreciate if someone could tell me how to get rid of the hotfix.

I have uninstalled the business application but .Net remains and I am getting the Windows welcome screen because of the ASPNET user which was set up. Can I just Remove .NET with Add/Remove or is it more complicated than that. Something I saw mentioned editing the registry which I would like to avoid doing.

I feel sort of bad for joining only to ask a question, but the boards just seemed so helpful I couldn't resist. Anyway, I recently installed the .net framework to a stable build of windows XP SP2, and now I'm having some problems. I deleted the asp.net account and checked the "don't use welcome screen" box in user profiles because I don't really like the login etc... that comes with it.
That was two days ago. This morning I turn on my computer only to have it take a long time at the windows loading screen, and hang at the off-blue loging screen without bringing up the login box. Now, I wanted to somehow get rid of the .net framework after I realised I didn't really need it, but now it's not even possible. I tried both entering in safe mode (hanging black screen with "safe mode" in the usual places) and using the last known working setting (and got the same off-blue login screen.) I don't mind reverting to a saved state, but I can't even access the desktop to be able to.
My updates are set on notify and this update has downloaded but never installs and goes away. I have tried installing it many times but the yellow shield continues to pop back up saying it is there to be installed.
This is on a fully up to date XP SP2 OS system, with Avast and is Spyware clean as well, on an older generic clone 600mhz AMD K6-III with 384MB Ram and plenty of hard disk space. Although it is a little slow and methodical it has never caused me any problems
I upgraded to Office 2003 from its predecessor, which seemed not to delete/uninstall any of the old Office 10 files (Office XP Pro). I took a system restore point, and uninstalled Office XP Pro from Control Panel Add/Remove, successfully.Due to a totally unrelated software program corruption, I reverted to the system restore point, which of course put the Office 10 files back. Now I get error "the patch package could not be opened" when trying to again unstall it. MS says to use this above named utility which will remove the installation info for programs installed by the WIN installer, so that you can "start the installation, upgrade or uninstall over". Has anyone had experience with this utility? I want to "uninstall over". How can this be done if the "installation files" are removed? I do not want to to be forced re-install Office XP Pro (the predecessor), especially having a successfuly MS OFFFICE 2003 installation up and running. If it should "force" that path, I feel that would get things in a real knot.

If i try to add or remove software that uses the windows installer if hangs and will not proceed. I get the message 'Install service not responding'. I tried starting the service manualy but i get the message 'error 1053 The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion'.I tried installing SP2 but when the computer restarted all i got was a blank desktop. I installed the latest version of Windows Installer and it made no difference

It fails to install every time and comes back again and again to install. I did a very quick search on this problem and it seems there are problems concerning how Framework was loaded and what versions youo have.First of all, as far as I know, I have only loaded a new Framework version because a program I downloaded informed me I need this new version. I do not keep track of how I loaded Framework, what versions or anything. Looking as some of these proposed solutions require knowing a lot more about how you loaded them and what versions you have.

Both 1.1 and 2.0 are listed under my add/remove programs but cannot be uninstalled or repaired. Microsoft says that these are critical updates but I cannot tell if I have a corrupt version.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've checked a few other threads relating to WinXP suddenly asking for password at start, and that .NET 1.1 SP1 is required to fix this. On Friday, I had a crash and had to reformat HD and reinstall Windows, then sent Auto Update to get everything needed. According to Update History, SP1 downloaded and installed with no problems. However when I look in Add/Remove Programs I only see .NET 1.1 and a Hotfix for it. Should I see something that says SP1 if it's really on my system?
