View 2 RepliesI have been installing each and every update from microsoft. I now get the Windows Update to install a security patch for Framework.net. It fails to install every time and comes back again and again to install. I did a very quick search on this problem and it seems there are problems concerning how Framework was loaded and what versions youo have.First of all, as far as I know, I have only loaded a new Framework version because a program I downloaded informed me I need this new version. I do not keep track of how I loaded Framework, what versions or anything. Looking as some of these proposed solutions require knowing a lot more about how you loaded them and what versions you have.

View 6 Replies View RelatedWould like some info on the advisability of using registry fixing software. My biggest fear is that in the process of attempting to fix something, it will cause a severe problem such as having to have the hard drive reformatted. For those who have done this, what kind of problems did you run into, if any?

I am going to do this: http://rsivanandan.wordpress.com/200...ttings-folder/
Move the Documents and Settings folder to a different drive (sicn the guy who fixed my computer didn't do RAID and so I now have three partitions, of which everything is installed in one).
So... I backed up my registry by doing Export. I want to know how I can fix the registry from this if something goes wrong. I need to be prepared before the computer breaks.
after fixing my netbook because of a blank screen, there is no sound from the computer. I checked the sound settings and everything seems to be alright. Also the recovery program seems to be gone.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an external hard drive that I use quite often. Recently after I restarted my computer, all the partitions on my main hard drive were assigned a drive letter and my external's drive letter was bumped from F: to J: So now F: is set to the 47MB partition built-in to Dells and I can't change its letter assignment because in Disk Management it doesn't give me that option! I can change my external's drive letter easily I just need F: to be available again.
View 7 Replies View RelatedWhen I was trying to make my XP SP3 look like Vista, I changed something for the font.
I used Movefile and a script. When the computer restarted, the font had changed, but is far too big and looks terrible. I didn't save a system restore point and I have tried changing the font size in 'Display Settings', then 'Appearance'. And I have tried changing the DPI setting and the 'Display Settings', 'Settings', then 'Advanced'.
Upon leaving my last company I was given one of the older laptops (too old for anyone to care to use anymore), an IBM/Lenovo ThinkPad. The laptop was purchased with OEM licenses for Windows XP and Office. I have not reinstalled XP on this PC, and although I no longer can connect to my old company's domain, I have been continuing to use the PC by logging on to the domain, as I am not able to log onto the PC in any other way. This is, by the way, annoying for me, because I can access the internet but cannot access my other computers at home since they are not on the "company" domain and so I do not have permission to do so.Now the problem: This laptop is beginning to have some sort of problem, where applications like Firefox just suddenly freeze up and cannot be terminated, not even using Task Manager. I need to hardboot the machine each time as I cannot even shutdown in a normal fashion.
So how is the best way to a) fix this problem and b) get permission to log on to the machine "locally" and not on the company domain? One thing I am thinking about is just re-installing the computer, and I have the Windows XP license info on the label on the bottom of the laptop, and I suppose I can get the office license key using something like ProduKey. It would be nice to avoid having to do this, however, as I do not have the Lenovo CD's and would have to reinstall everything from the net. Any advice on what is best to do? How to find/fix the freezes of software like Yahoo and Firefox? How to get away from the company domain? I as user have admin priviledges to the PC but cannot, for example, touch the antivirus software and that is irritating.
I'm fixing a computer for someone at work. He had an Emachines computer where the ps failed and took the mobo with it.Hard drive is intact and i'm hoping to still use his license of windows and just update it or something. Is this possible, or does he have to go and repurchase windows now? Also, he's upgrading to a core duo processor and mobo, and on the back of the mobo box it says, "Intel EM64T requires a computer system with a processor, chipset, BIOS, OS, device drivers and applications enabled for Intel EM64T. Processor will not operate (including 32-bit operations) without an Intel EM64T-enabled BIOS."Does this mean he needs the 64 bit version of windows now as well, or is regular xp home fine? Is this true for all 64 bit processors?
View 39 Replies View RelatedThere seem to be 2 places in IE to change font size, Tools | Internet Options; Fonts to select the web & plain text fonts and Accessibility to select or ignore font styles & sizes. I simply cannot find the right combination to be able to have consistent
fonts on all pages. If I check "ignore font size" then the pages use my font but the font seems to vary from web page to web page. I have to click the "size" button on the toolbar. With this unchecked some web pages have really BIG fonts and some have such small fonts that I cannot read them and have to select the "ignore font size" again.
I would just like to know if I can fix the problem so then I can see my pictures. What can I do to fix the corrupted files? Can I retrieve my pictures back and if so How?

I used WinXP SP3 32b OS, I installed .net framework 3.5 sp1 on it, after that I check .net 2.0. it's die! Into control panel, I see that .net 2.0 sp2, .net 3.0 sp2 but .net 3.5 sp1? I think that with WinXP sp3 OS can not fit with .net 3.5 SP1?? is that my ideal correct?
View 13 Replies View Relatedwhat is it and what does it do? Windows update has been trying to auto install version 2.0 and has errors doing so. View 3 Replies View RelatedI've checked a few other threads relating to WinXP suddenly asking for password at start, and that .NET 1.1 SP1 is required to fix this. On Friday, I had a crash and had to reformat HD and reinstall Windows, then sent Auto Update to get everything needed. According to Update History, SP1 downloaded and installed with no problems. However when I look in Add/Remove Programs I only see .NET 1.1 and a Hotfix for it. Should I see something that says SP1 if it's really on my system?

View 6 Replies View RelatedMS recently updated me with lots of files relative to something called .Net Framework. From what little I understand about it, it appears to be something for programmers, which I'm not. It includes a couple of updates for C++ which I know is a programming language. Is any of this needed for my applications to run properly or for net surfing? Any harm in deleting every update relative to Framework?
View 6 Replies View RelatedHey Guys,
If anyone could help me with this, it would be great. Right...
The other day my computer started throwing up error messages. I wasn't using it at the time. The only thing I had done recently was install the latest Nokia PC Suit.
The error messages were along the line of "file not a proper windows image...."
It was impossible to do a lot as most things failed, and I could only just managed to do a few things in safe mode. I managed to run a registry cleaner which got rid of 100's of files. I then managed to run chkdsk/f, this also cleaned up alot of files. After a reboot I got the message ntoskrnl.exe missing or corrupt. I managed to re-install this file. I thought all good. BUt now it boots and got passed the windows logo and then nothing! Just blank screen, nothing happens, hdd silent!!
So if you guys have any idea's as to whats wrong, fix's pretty please let me know.
Mucho thanks!
I am attempting to install the .net framework and am having issues. when attempting to install i get the error 'Error creating process TempIXP000.TMPInstall.exe>. Reason: system32advpack.dll. I checked to see if the dll was there.

View 2 Replies View RelatedMicrosoft's .Net Framework v1.1 changes the user's logon and shutdown method (due to the installation of ASP.NET and sets up an additional user account).I'm aware of how to change the logon annoyance so that process skips the password check and goes straight into the Windows XP Professional SP1 desktop. It's the "shutdown" method I'm referring.Net Framework has created a very annoying "dropdown" menu option list when you want to restart, logoff, shutdown, etc., instead of the Windows XP simple 3-choice icon option which is in plain sight after you select Start/Turn Off Computer. Does anyone have a fix as to how to return to the original way of shutting down prior to .Net Framework's tampering?
