Having suffered 3 HDD failures, I have cloned my laptop hard drive (XP Home edition) with Norton Ghost 9.0. I have copied the MBR as well and made it active. Replaced the laptop drive with the cloned drive, but it only boots up to the XP light blue screen and stalls.

so every time i boot the computer i get that good ol' blue screen of death right where windows should open to my desktop.. instead it says "welcome" with the light blue background.. the screen goes black and then comes back with the blue screen.. the message on the screen says:

beginning dump of physical memory dumping physical memory to disk: and counts up to 100 then the computer restarts. i was able to get into safe mode to try a system restore but when the computer restarted it never finished the install (it actually gave me the confirmation that the restore was successful while i was doing a repair install later on) i have tried going through the windows install disc repair utility and doing a chkdsk /p and a chkdsk /r upon doing /r it froze at 53 percent and did not move (i left it for a good 4 hours the first time before restarting it.. and then over night the second time.. and both times it never passed 53 percent............
Before this problem came about, I fixed the Windows error ""Windows XP could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:" using Windows XP Recovery Console.I cannot anymore access the Recovery Console since it already requires the administrator password which is I think one of the bugs of older Windows XP versions. I cannot upgrade to Service Pack 2 since I cannot access Windows.I really need to access the files in this computer. Reformat is not an option.
View 14 Replies View Relatedwhenever I start the Laptop it goes to a blue screen and there is a stop error and just stays there until i have to manually restart then goes to the blue screen again.I stupidly pressed install when a pop-up came for the anti-virus xp 2008 spyware came up and since then tried to get rid of it and after a few restarts I got the blue screen.Is there a way to fix this? I'm fine with reinstalling windows but dont know how form here or if it will fix the problem.
View 7 Replies View RelatedBy trying to reconnect to the internet I messed up Windows 2000 Pro by trying to add a Windows component under add remove programs. I think I tried to add Network services and Other Windows Networking file and print services. One thing to note, I do not have any win2000 setup or recovery CDs. Now when it boots, it goes to a blue screen after booting up with no Icons. It will however, boot into safe mode with icons if you hit F8 but I don't have a clue on how to correct the regular boot up problem. The windows 2000 pro machine hooks up (when it works OK) wirelessly to a Netgear router which is running as an access point that is piggy backed to Lan #4 on a d-Link router which has 2 other machines hardwired to the D Link router. I also have a wireless Dell Laptop which hooks up with no problem to the access point.

We have tried all the "safe mode" options, but get the same result.If you try to press F2 or F10 when it starts, all we get is a loud beeping sound.Does anyone have any idea how to get this thing up and running? My daughter has a major school project on the drive, and she'll be devastated if she has to redo it at this point.

After approximateyl 45 to 60 seconds of this the boot completes and the desktop appears with the icons. This happens maybe twice out of 10 boots.
View 8 Replies View Related2 SATA Raid hard drives with striping.I'm having problems installing Windows XP Pro on my machine. When we first started to install the OS on the machine, I kept getting a blue screen error message before it boots into setup saying ERROR 0X0000007B. And then after that it started showing up book disk failure. Instead of SATA we tried just one EIDE HD, we switched memory, new cables, new powersupply, we switched the vcard. And just recently we finally switched the Motherboard. Now when we boot off disc we get an error message saying "boot disk failure". So we ran a boot setup windows xp floppy. It gets all the way to where it asks for "please insert windows xp installation cd" and when I do it doesnt recognize it but I hear the CD spinning. We've switched out the CD-roms with 2 different ones and still can't get any progress.

As I was doing this and then installing all of my software I had not realized that my flash drive was plugged in and WinXP then named my Hard Disk drive F: So everything is now on drive F: and working well. In the new install, XP created my Hard Disk NTFS. Now, I used ghost to clone my Hard Disk. XP called the backup drive C: Backup finished fine, BUT, when I switch drives and put the backup in only, the computer will not boot up. I get to the blue Welcome screen and that is where is sits. I tried the ghost GhReboot.exe program, but no help.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a larged data drive that failed a disk check. It stalls when starting stage two (I belive that is the verification of indexing). I have been able to back-up all of the folders except for a large folder of raw video. The PC locks up when I attempt to access/copy this folder (it appears to be part of the problem). I want to make an attempt to recover this data before reformatting the drive. The check disk fails both at start up or if I run from the desktop both in regular and safe mode.

It did the restore but still wont boot up into windows. We have also tried chkdsk /f and /r but it tells us that the system is in use by another process. We have disabled the startup up progs, and tried again but it stills says the same. OK so we tried using the xp installation disk, changed the bios to boot from CD Attempted to do REPAIR, but it said ' set up did not find any HDD installed in your computer.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI am using WinXP SP2 and just two days ago the computer stalls at the loading screen (black screen says Windows XP and the blue loading bar underneath). It doesnt completely freeze but it just keeping on loading and never gets to windows, even after I wait for 10 mins. I have tried F8 and used 'last know good configuration and that didn't help'. The only change that i've made was instaling a new DVD burner a few days and it worked no problem after installation. The stall problem started after I manaully shut down the computer (press down power for 10 secs) when my computer froze from using dvd shrink. I'm pretty sure its not the software problem.. it should be hardware problem? Should I update dvd firmware? Is there anything else I can do to fix the stall problem?
View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen I get to the Log On screen, two of the user pictures have some small light blue bits joined to their right. When the mouse moves over them, they get smaller, and when it is off, they go back to their original size. After logging in, this problem is continued on the desktop, where it does it around a medium sized white box in my background. It happens in any program opened up, around the top, and around the Start menu bar. After a while, Internet Explorer stops doing it, apart from on certain pages, the same each time. However, when Internet Explorer has got over the problem, any programs opened up in front of it do not have the problem, until you close or minimize Internet Explorer. It does not happen to the three other users which, on the Log On screen do not have blue bits on. The lighter bits of an image tend to get light blue bits dispersed in. Is there anything I can do? The problem started around two days ago, without any seeming action to start it.MS Paint does not stop showing blueness even with Internet Explorer open, until size of window is changed to the actual size of the canvas minus about 20 px.

It does same with safe mode.I'm not sure, but I think it is caused by display driver I tryied to install. I got a nVidia 8600GT-m card, and nVidia doesn't provide official driver for it, it must come from the vendor or I need to use modified driver. The driver that came from the vendor didn't support some of the openGL functions and gave error when I tried to run stuff on higher resolution

The computer doesn't recognize the disk. I've gone into setup and changed it to boot from the DVD-ROM. It still doesn't recognize the CD-ROM. Actually, it has a CD-ROM and a DVD-ROM. BIOS only see's one of them but I've changed the plugs to both of them to eliminate the bad one and still nothing. It's set to boot to the DVD.

this has been a persistent problem. Mostly when Im playing a game, it happens... the physical memory dump blue screen. Now, in the past Ive gotten that its a RAM problem. 4 sticks of RAM later, I think I can tell you that it is not.Other random symptoms. Just before the Windows XP screen when starting up, sometimes I get a black screen with a blinking cursor at the top left that it will sit at.. forever. If I wait 10 minutes with the power off, I can reboot fine. While the cursor is blinking, I can ctrl+alt+del and it will restart but do the same thing.

After initiating install from the CD all goes well with the boot (loads drivers, and configures devices,etc). Check for viruses. remove any newly installed drives or hard drives. check that the hard drive is configured properly. Run CHKDSK/F to check for corruption, then restart.

Today however i restarted and it was freezing, wouldn't let me into BIOS setup, or anything, but after a few restarts it worked again.. about 10minutes ago the computer came up with a blue screen as i left the room, i didn't have enough time to see all of it but i got, 0x000000f4 (0x00000003 couldnt get the rest, and something about physical memory dump. i had to restart again about 3 or 4 times before it worked, and when i got through the computer froze.

The problem is that the Windows XP Pro that they installed is bad. I can not open any of the drives without going through a long process. I went to reinstall with my XP pro disk and it will not load. I get a blue screen that says it won't load and to try again. I can't repair it either. How can I get a C: prompt so that I can format the drive? I have already tried downloading an ISO boot disk but when I load that up it just gives me an A: prompt and it doesn't find the C: drive or any other drive for that matter. It is also a brand new hard drive. Does anyone know how I can fix this without taking the computer back into the repair shop?
View 10 Replies View RelatedI've just run defrag on my C drive which went without any hitches but afterwards trying to run AVG (free) virus checker caused the computer to produce a blue screen and restarted XP. I uninstalled AVG, reinstalled and it still crashed XP when run after the clean reinstall. Then ran Checkdisk (CHKDSK) from within XP which appeared to work fine until it got to Where it's been stuck like that for over 2 hours... is this length of pause normal? Is it safe to do a forced restart of XP?

If I let this run and let it start testing, It responds with "unspecified error" after a second or two. I have manually run the disc checking on all HDs. No errors found. Is this some kind of a joke, a virus, or distraction so some malware can load?
