I am sorry i cannot give you the complete specs for the pc that is in trouble. However it runs an 80gig, cd drive, is about 4 years old, 64mg graphic card, 1.25g ddr ram 133, running xp. not sure home or pro. I would think home version. This system belongs to a friend who knows less than i. He recently had troubles with his system and I ran a few cleaning programs and made some adjustments to the system for better performance.Simple things such as choose for best performance, ccleaner, defrag the system and thats about all. Though I could not defrag drive D partition. A message said it had errors and needed or recommended it be scanned upon restart. So we did.
It all went well. Finished 5 of 5 then the next part it stuck at 0% and didnt recover from it. We waited say 40 minutes and still nothing so we restarted the system. It loads but hangs at the loading screen.I cannot use the xp recovery disc as it needs a password to get access and we do not have one. The system was bought from someone long ago. So recovery is out.Safe mode hangs when it gets down to mentioning the graphic card details and no other option will fully load either. Can anything be done here to get XP to boot?In the mean time I am currently setting up xp on another hdd and am going to try and retrieve as much data as I can from the crippled system. But if I can get it working then I will not have to sacrifice a HDD and not loose all of the outlook data etc.
booting my cpu because it hangs at the loading screen. I have read a lot of posts but none of them help because I can't get the cpu in safe mode. I have tried all the options and all kinds of boot disks. It won't let me use my keyboard to highlight any of the options where it says windows had problems loading and gives several options like safe mode or last good config. The keyboard will let me into the bios but after that it won't work. f8 won't take me to safe mode and it won't boot to the cd either. I had this problem once a few weeks back but I created a boot disk and after I booted from that for several times it started booting on it's own. I got the boot disk from a web site but it wasn't an xp boot disk.(i think it was an 98se or me disk) Well of course now either I have lost the disk or it just won't work anymore. I need to find a way to at least boot it long enough to get the data off. the file system is ntfs and I am using windows xp pro.
My XP has recently started freezing after the xp loading screen. I have to restart several times for it to work properly. I've tried to fix it with registry scanners etc.
When trying to boot my computer it freezes.I have tried to boot into safe mode with no joy and then safe mode with command prompt. The last entry with command prompt is:multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)WINDOWSSystem32DriversBTHidMgr.sysNow using the little I know about computers I am guessing that it is hanging whilst loading the driver BTHidMgr, what ever that may be and at a guess I either need to delete that driver or repair / replace it.... but.... thats about as far as I can guess.
when I first start the computer, windows hangs between the black windows logo screen and the first blue screen that says "windows is starting". I have to hit the reset button, it goes to the dos screen with the safe mode, etc. choices. I choose "start using last known good configuration" and I'm good to go. If I turn the computer off during the day and turn it back on, It works fine. It only hangs on the first start of the day.
When I start the computer, it asks if for the choice of Safe Mode, w/ Networking, w/Command Prompt or Normally.
I've tried them all and if I try it normally, it won't get past the XP loading screen. It's loading and then it flashes a blue screen for a second and then restarts the computer again.
I tried pressing F8 at boot and selected 'Disable automatic restart on system failure' and this is what I get
I even tried using this http://forums.techguy.org/6669592-post28.html to get to chkdsk At boot, F12, chose CD/DVD, but still nothing, I even tried disabling boot from +HDD, FDD and LAN from the bios setup menu to see if it works and this is what I got, it just keeps going on and on unless I enable boot from +HDD
I have this strange problem:I can't see my Bios loading .The screen is totaly black untill the windows' welcome screen , and then everything is back to normal. It happened when I updated my motherboard Bios (Gigabyte GA-8N-SLI ,Rev. 1.0) through the original vendor's Website
My dads pc was fine then all of the sudden it just restarted. And it came up to the options:restart in safe mode estart in safemode with networking estart in safe mode with networking Last known working config Normal But when he tries any of them.. None of them work The windows loading screen will come up flash a blue screen super fast (cannot read it no matter how hard i try) then go back to boot option screen.
I couldnt start up windows. It would hang at the windows loading screen and go no further. So I was told to try a repair-install. And thats where even more trouble has started. So I started to repair-install. During the Windows Install setup, it gets almost to the point of being completed, but gave me a blue screen error STOP message at around the "18 minutes left" mark. During "Registering components". It would do this every time at the same spot. So I searched a bit about how to solve the problem. One suggestion I found on the interwebs was to try it with only one stick of ram installed, I have four overall at 2gb. So I tried that, next time I boot up to the comp, it loads up the bios, and then goes to the black windows loading screen with the loading bar, then starts with a blue screen saying "Setup is being restarted" So I figure its restarting my windows installation since it never was completed, after that message, the screen goes black with a cursor, and stays that way forever. I immediately put all the ram back in, and no luck, same thing. I tested each individual ram stick, same thing, just goes black. So now, I can't even seem to re-install windows. Did my hard drive just crap out? Some hardware issue? Im already thinking about buying a new fresh hard drive, installing windows on there, and just moving all my files from the old hard drive over to the new one. Though that would be a pain, I really want to save my current drive! And all the data on it.
When I turn on my computer, everything seems to be going fine... the manufacturer's screen comes up, then the screen that shows Windows is loading, then it kindof gets stuck between the loading screen and the welcome screen. It just goes black. The hard drive will run continually as if it's searching for the rest of the information, but can't find it.
When I load windows, it gets up to the loading screen, stays on for a second, or less, and then just the screen blanks out and restarts again...This is after my first PC build. THe Harddrive is detected fine...(its also the one i used from the old computer I had...) What can i do for this?
I recently assembled my new system and did almost exactly the same installation process as I have done for my old system many times (except drivers for my new hardware). But now I experience random freezes at the blue Welcome screen. If logon process goes normally, there are three stages I have noticed:
1- right after boot screen disappears and welcome screen appears there is some HDD activity 2-hdd activity stops for 1 or 2 seconds 3-hdd activity starts again But one time out of 10 or 20 everything freezes at the stage 2. I can move the mouse, turn NumLock on/off on my keboard, but I cannot select any user name to log on they are frozen. I tried using Windows Logo key + U (usually this brings up Utility Manager for Accessibilty) but it does not work. So the only choice is do a hard reset.I did not find any errors in Event Viewer or any hardware conflicts. I have tried to use /bootlog option in boot.ini file but it logs only drivers and nothing about what happens at logon stage.Any ideas? Or maybe a good utility which can log everything that happens when my pc boots up and after that until Desktop appears?
i'm working on an HP Media Center PC M7680N.on bootup, it makes it through the HP screen, and the initial Windows XP screen and then it just hangs there with a blank screen. Tried numerous times.i reseated the ram and blew out the dust grill under the CPU fan, which was almost totally clogged with dust. after doing that i let it sit for a half hour to cool down and tried it again. same result.
I built my own computer about six months ago, and for 99.9 percent of the time it works great. Recently more and more though, it has been hanging at the welcome screen. I would start up the computer and it would go thru the Win XP screen then go to the Welcome screen and just hang. I would restart the PC and it would boot up fine. What would be causing this to happen? No error messages any of the times, its almost like the desktop gets "lost" from time to time.
I boot my xp machine but it hangs at the xp splash screen. It's not like it's frozen, the blue bar under the "windows" just scrolls and scrolls and scrolls, etc. The same happens when I try booting to VGA mode.I am able to boot to safe mode, just not completely. I get to a screen that says " Safe mode Microsoft (R) Windows XP (R) (Build 2600.xpsp_sp2_gdr.05001-119: Service Pack 2) Safe Mode.I can also see the mouse moving around, just nothing else. Nothing was added, removed or installed.
My apologies if this has been covered in other threads but the search function doesn't seem to work at the moment. When entering the password as administrator my girl friends pc hangs. Prior to this I'd - Removed several viruses, trojan horses and a rootkit. - Repaired the registry using registry booster - Noticed no Ctrl - Alt - Delete - Opened in safe mode and scanned for viruses after I'd removed them using Malware bytes but now clean. But when booted XP hangs after entering password. I've tried - - Last known good configuration - VGA mode..But can access using safe mode.
Windows XP halts and will not load Windows Explorer after the welcome screen An error message states that windows has encountered a problem and will close....Leaving me with a "Blue screen" I am able to get to my files only by "ctrl, alt, delete" and selecting browse at the task mngr. Or, I can log on as a guest where everything is normal again, but without administrative power. I have tried logging off the admin, then re-booting..no change. Performed a virus check, spy ware check, system restore, which is how this all began in the first place! I even tried re-installing XP. Nothing has worked yet. Ther are no service packs or updates of any kind on the system, nor is it possible.
This problem started several days ago. On restart the XP splash screen loads but freezes as the progress bar is in motion. After rebooting several times it does load to the desktop, but on restarting again it hangs. I have searched reference articles, forums, etc and have found others have the same problem and have narrowed it down to nvidia drivers and hardware conflicts that load after 'mup.sys' in the boot up process.I had installed a nvidia graphics card and driver before this problem began but then uninstalled, deciding to keep the on board sis igp. I have downloaded driver cleaner and removed all traces of the nvidia driver but the problem persists..I am running XP sp2, p4 3ghz, foxconn motherboard, sis 661fx graphics.
When Switching Between Screen Names (windows Xp) Say From My Daughter To My Name ,the Computer Goes To The Sign On Screen And Freezes I Have To Hit The Re Boot Button To Re Start The Computer Any Ideas? It Just Started About 2 Weeks Ago .Dell Demension 4100 Widows Xp 1000 Meg W/ Sp 2 512 Meg Ram Did Virus Scan ( Norton2005) Adaware, Spybot Etc No New Software Loaded ,can;t Understand Why All Of A Sudden It Started Happenning?
my PC, after the xp logo, it hangs, i have to restart about 3 times to fix it, i have ran anti virus, and spyware scan, i think its a software/driver issue, any ideas how i can figure out what it is?
I am having this really anoying problem with both of my computers they are: 1. Custom built ecs board p4 xp home system 2. Dell latitude c600 xp pro sp2 For some weird reason both of my computers hang right after the logon screen. Its weird because all I have to do is give it the three finger salute and go under shut down and then log off then I'll get the explorer.exe is not responding message I hit cancel or stop terminate whatever it is and it goes back to the logon screen I then logon and it boots into the desktop like it should normally. This is really weird because it happens to both my xp home desktop computer and my xp pro notebook computer. This is really anoying and I can't figure it out. Ive tried runing anti spyware progs like Ad aware and spybot but nothing really comes up.Please help This is getting especially troublesome when my kid is hounding me to put on his spongebob dvd on my notebook and I have to deal with this while booting up. What I have noticed is that (on both computers) the taskbar does not come up all I get is my background picture.
so Im suppose to be able to fix most of the problems on my laptop since I do not consider myself a newbie, but now I am stumped! I own an Acer TravelMate 8204. This has been a dream machine, until now.On Old Years Night, a two year old hit on power switch on my laptop while it was starting up and turned it off when I saw this I turned it back on and it started to do a scan disk then the child pressed down the button again, I was in such shock I could not move. Since then, windows wont start fully it gets passed the black screen with the Windows XP logo and then goes to a blue screen with the XP logo in the middle the one that comes up while XP is starting up your setting. And it stays there, I have left it on for almost 24 hours hoping it will get past it nothing.
I have an intermittent problem, xp hangs occassionaly at the boot screen. If I unplug the system when not in use it doesn't happen as often. WEIRD. When it does happen I have to leave the system unplugged for about 5 minutes or it won't boot. This has been happening ever since I upgraded to home XP from ME. It is a legal XP CD. I have a new amd athelon 1.2 motherboard and XP drivers for my hardware.I even reinstalled XP but the problem persists.
I have a computer that I recently installed a new mother board into. Everything was going fine after the installation for like a week until I decided to reformat. While reformatting I made it through the initial part of the setup where it reboots the computer. To start the second half of the installation but upon rebooting The computer hangs on the Windows XP page. Now every time I try to restart the computer it hangs in the same spot. I have done some reading around the internet and I think that the problem lies in my Bios but everything seems fine. I have tried to update the bios but the computer doesn't have a floppy drive so I was unable to. I have tried the windows recovery console where I did a fixboot and and a fixmbr
When I try normal boot, windows hangs up on XP logo screen. The hdd indicator tells me there is no more hdd access. When using save mode, windows starts until black screen with note "save mode" in the edges appears, then hangs up, also no more hdd access.Booting with options "last known working config" and other options does not work, too. (always the same result - hang up with no more hdd action). In my last working session i did not change any config, installed programs or so. Just using office package, acrobat, photoshop, icq and skype.Shutdown without any problems.
PC working fine up till 3am. Turn it on this morning it hangs at the very first screen ( option to enter bios etc) so i hit the restart button. When i finally get into xp it stalls and only lets me highlight icons on my desktop notthing else, cannot open them or delete them or click start menu so i ctrl+alt+delete and restart.Hangs again at black screen. Now iv'e finally got in.I had about 5 viruses total and 5-8 trojans on my pc.
HP laptop hangs on "Windows is starting up..." screen for ever and a day! Ive tried safe mode but its gets to exactly the same point and than doesnt go any further. I havent tried any other remedies as I thought Id seek some advice since Im not that with-it on these technical issues. I have work on the hard drive that I would really like to be able to recover as otherwise I would have carried out a complete systems reinstall. Is there any way of me being able to do a reinstall and not loose my work? From the things I've tried I can't even return the settings to the way they were when the laptop worked ok.
I have windows xp home edition service pack 1 with all the updates, i can't install sp2 because my hardware (even with bios update) will not accept it and i had to reinstall windows after not being able to boot from installing sp2...but that is another story. After doing some recent updates my computer now hangs for about a minute before entering windows, it hangs after it reaches the blue screen that says "windows is starting" than finally you see "welcome" and it loads. I'd like to think of myself as a power and advanced user so i did the basics, checked the startup, disabled services, ran norton, used microsoft antispyware did a registry check, used tuneXP to defrag the boot.ini and used bootvis. The comp sure as hell restarts fast but bootvis says that "log on service" takes 168.7 seconds that is just not good.
Today, I found out that my computer hangs at the login screen. I boot up the computer as normal, and the login box is shown. I click into the password field (Note: I do not have the normal welcome screen, I have the Win2000 one.) and am ready to type my password. When I begin typing my password, nothing pops up. I attempt to move the mouse, but it is frozen where it last was. Sometimes it doesn't even move (The mouse) when I first boot it up. So seeing this as any problem, I go in Safe Mode. It's a sure bet that the mouse will move. Though it moves flawlessly, the password box is where the annoyance stays. I attempt to type my password, but then my computer hangs, AGAIN.I'm typing this from my brother's computer, and have yet to find the answer. I hear that this is some sort of password corruption and can be prevented by not having passwords on the account. I want to change this, but I can't login in the first place.
This I'm sure is not a virus. I scan for viruses every week (With Kaspersky), leave Ad-Aware, Giant Antispyware, and Zone Alarm on. I've used Google to search for answers, and yes I've found them being solved. They include the same problems, but they can get into Safe Mode, which in my case, I can't. I've tried Safe Mode 7 times and it doesn't work. (I can get in safe mode but the keyboard/mouse still hang)I didn't have time to backup files, and I have pictures that I haven't backed up onto CDs. People that have solved this problem have done it without reformatting, and I need a solution without reformatting.
