Blue Screen - Memory Dump
Rebooted And Now It Just Hangs On Windows Xp Logo Screen.
Tried To Boot Using Safe Mode But No Joy.
Also Tried To Use The Restore Disks And The Xp Disk Itself But It Would Not Boot From Those.
What Do I Do Now? I Dont Want To Format The Drive And Loose All My Files.
when I first start the computer, windows hangs between the black windows logo screen and the first blue screen that says "windows is starting". I have to hit the reset button, it goes to the dos screen with the safe mode, etc. choices. I choose "start using last known good configuration" and I'm good to go. If I turn the computer off during the day and turn it back on, It works fine. It only hangs on the first start of the day.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI had been away from my computer for about an hour and when i returned the screen was black and nothing would change it so hit the restart button. When the computer started up, I first saw the usual blue dell logo-screen, however, the next screen was the windows 98 startup logo-screen. The computer then entered DOS mode and at the top of the screen it says Microsoft Windows 98. This problem persists every time i start the computer. I only have 1 primary partion and i installed XP on it from a clean install by using a win98 bootdisk to format and running winnt from the i386 folder of the xp cd. When i try to enter SAFE MODE the computer goes to the Win 98 start-up logo screen again and enters DOS again. I know that all my files are still on the HDD because i can navigate through them. All i really want to do is somehow save some files that are on te HDD so i can just format and reinstall XP.

I tried booting into "Safe Mode" to defrag my computer. Before it goes into "Safe Mode" I get a blue screen stating that "I must remove improperly installed software to proceed". I have not installed any software. I have replaced my cd-rom burner and it is working properly. Any ideas on how a I may access "Safe Mode"??
I am running 2000 pro. Also is there a way I can see what the "Administrative Password" on Win 2000 pro.?
I set up a friends computer with 2000 and I didn't enter a password. Apparently, someone else has entered one but can not remember it, thus their computer is useless without the password.
My computer is running horribly slow and so I've tried to enter safe mode but I get a blue screen with instructions.It says to check to be sure you have adequate disk space. It goes to the "windows" screen the a blue screen flashes for just a second and the only thing I can read is "a problem has occured" because of the short duration the screen is up...there is a lot more words on there but I don't have time to read it all. Then it goes to the option screen to restart or start in safe mode...which is what I'm in at this time.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI get a blue screen then it restarts in a loop, so I have tried to start in safe mode however this reads the hard drive then goes into a similar loop of getting a blue screen and restarting. I have the windows XP disk and code, but wondered whether by reinstalling windows all data would be lost? I would, if at all possible prefer to get the data from the hard-drive, is there any way to do this. Also, I am not entirely sure on how to re-install it anyway.

View 5 Replies View RelatedWhen trying to start XP Media Center 2005 in safe mode, it completes loading Mups.sys, the screen goes blank and flickers slightly like it's changing video modes, and i get a "BSOD"/blue screen (photo attached)The computer boots normally in XP when booted normally, and in Kubuntu 7.04/Feisty and Kubuntu 7.10/ Gutsy when booted normally and in recovery mode.I suspect the problem may have to do with the failed install of the Netscape Activex Wrapper Plugin from buzzen.com which (supposedly) lets Gecko-based browsers run Activex scripts intended for IE7, but I'm not sure as I haven't used safe mode in some time

The hdd indicator tells me there is no more hdd access.When using save mode, windows starts until black screen with note "save mode" in the edges appears, then hangs up, also no more hdd access.Booting with options "last known working config" and other options does not work, too. (always the same result - hang up with no more hdd action).In my last working session i did not change any config, installed programs or so. Just using office package, acrobat, photoshop, icq and skype.Shutdown without any problems.

Hey I'm running an ASUS K8V-SE Deluxe mobo w/ Windows XP Pro. When I turn on my computer it sort of hangs up on the first screen where it shows the ASUS manufacturers logo or whatever. I believe this is where it is running POST tests in the background, I've hit DELETE before to see whats happening during this and its auto detecting Primary Drives and stuff like that. Well within 20-30 seconds of that the screen goes blank and theres a one little blinking cursor for about 3 seconds then the cursor jumps down a line and blinks twice and finally the Windows XP loading screen comes up.

The basics: XP Professional Boot up screen, right before the windows loading screen, or direct after the F8 Menu if you hit "Start Windows Normally..." it will just lock up, no HDD activity, blank screen. now BSOD, nothing.
All 3 safe mods work fine.
Ran chkdsk /r in recovery.
Ran proper fixboot procedure.
Went into safe mode and checked the event viewer.
The only concerning message i got was: The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load:
AmdK8
Fips
nod32drv
Formatting really isnt an issue since i can back up anything i need through safe mode. However its just the fact that the Windows gremlin has struck me again and i must defeat it once more.
I highly doubt this is a hardware issue as it is more of a driver/software issue.any help?

View 14 Replies View RelatedThe other night I was on my computer when some strange things began to happen. Any program I tried to open would not open, and then the shortcuts on my desktop changed icons to the folder icon and the text dissapeared. I couldn't do anything, so I just figured it was some freak bug or something. I couldn't run any spyware or virus programs because it wouldn't let me open any programs. So I try to shut it down, and no matter how many times I clicked on shut down I still had to hold the button in to shut it off. Now, when I restart my computer, it seems to load just fine but when it gets to the blue screen with the windows xp logo on it, it just stops. The mouse cursor is there and I can move it but it never gets past the blue screen. I tired loading it in safe mode and it loads all the files up through mup.sys, which I have learned is the last file that loads so it is something after that. I have tried to start it using the last good configuration and still no luck. Any ideas? Do you think it is spyware/virus or just a corrupt system file?
View 11 Replies View RelatedMy XP computer (Dell dimension 5000) has been playing up alot recently and now after going to blue screen once more i can no longer boot up at all, Now everytime i boot up, my computer loads up untill the windows logo (splash?) screen and then goes to blue screen almost instantly. Now i would try and reinstall XP using the CD but i cant find it ANYWHERE, i do however have a vista startup disc. Ive tried booting the computer with the vista CD then pressing F12 to go to the boot up menu. However when i select "onboard USB or CD_ROM drive" e message appears below, "fress f1 to continue or f2 to run setup utility" then when i press f1 to continue another message appears below saying press f1 to reboot and f2 to run setup utility. pressing F1 gives the same message and f2 takes me to this blue screen with setup information and other options. Basically i cant get my computer to load up at all, and seeing as ive lost the XP disc (careless i know) is it possible to install vista on it rather than reinstalling XP? If not does anyone have any suggestions as to how i can fix my computer, or at least get it to boot? I have tried running it in safe mode nd last known good configuration and all that but still no success, i ran a few diagnostics which said the hard drive is fine. I'm totally clueless in this department so a step by step.

through this at startup by tapping the F8 key rapidly before that screen appears. I tried the System Restore to a date earlier than the administrator's work, but no help. Is their a repair or restore procedure that will cure this problem?
When i turn it on I get the 'Windows did not restart properly screen'and no matter which of the options I choose, i see the windows logo loading after a short time the blue screen apears for a split second and then its back to the first screen all over again.
iv gone into BIOS, i ran the HD self test, and both the short and long test fail before really even doing anything.
On boot sequence, PC hangs on Windows boot screen - with the good old progress bar churning along for eternity. It just stays there. It is possible to boot into safe mode, safe mode with networking, etc. but never boots up normally. 'Last Known Good..." does not help at all.
I have tried 'repairing' XP using the recovery console (deleting the boot.ini file, then BOOTCFG /REBUILD and then FIXBOOT) to no avail. Do not know where in the boot process it is getting hung up and not totally sure how to determine that.Using Windows XP Media Center Edition with SP2. Plenty of RAM and disk space.
Had this problem once in the past and it seemed to self correct after about 50 reboots.
Does this sound like a re-install of XP is required or are there any other options that might work?

This has been a dream machine, until now.On Old Years Night, a two year old hit on power switch on my laptop while it was starting up� and turned it off� when I saw this I turned it back on and it started to do a scan disk� then the child pressed down the button again, I was in such shock I could not move. Since then, windows won�t start fully� it gets passed the black screen with the Windows XP logo and then goes to a blue screen with the XP logo in the middle� the one that comes up while XP is starting up your setting. And it stays there, I have left it on for almost 24 hours hoping it will get past it� nothing.

Hung after desktop image was downloaded and normal desktop was presented. If I moved the cursor to the task bar, got hour glass. Could not get task manager to appear and could not start any program.Booted in safe mode with networking.
View 5 Replies View RelatedThis morning it tells me it has recovered from a serious error, but after about 5 minutes of seemingly normal usage, it briefly flashed some kind of blue screen error (no way in hell I could read it)Now it is constantly asking for a chkdsk, I let it run and all appears OK... but when I get to the login screen the display starts to look weird like there are lines running through it, and it promptly flashes the same blue screeen and starts all over again.
I have been able to briefly get into safe mode, tried a system restore but when I went to reboot the processes started all over again. PLEASE NOTE that getting into safe mode takes some patience.... it hangs FOREVER when loading the agpCPQ.sys driver, and sometimes just goes ahead and reboots on it's own.. TWICE so far today I have managed to get into safe mode, but only for a few minutes before it reboots and starts over.
i have reinstalled xp home on my dell pc, but now the screen looks like it does when you use safe mode. also i cant connect to the internet.
