I had recently formatted and reinstalled windows xp home edition. Everytime I restart my computer this comes up after the Dell logo displays. It lasts for approximately 5 minutes and then the Windows XP loading screen comes up and boots to the desktop. This load is really annoying and has never happended to me on previous installs of Windows XP. Please let me know how to resolve this issue

View 5 Replies View RelatedWorking on an hp pavilion (no time limit) specs:windows xp,80gb hdd,1.86ghz,1024mb system memory problem is that when it boots desktop comes up but no icons no start menu and you cant in put any controls, nothing happens when you hit Ctrl+Alt+Del in any mode and no last know configure ration. Hard drive checks out ok when i ran the test from the computer but tried a hdd test from ubcd(Ultimate Boot CD) and it did not even see the hdd the problem has been this way for 6 months.

Such was the case when I last used my computer, 3 days ago. No known changes. Windows updates is set to manual. There are 2 accounts, un & administrator. Both are members of "Administrators" group. I am trying to log on as un. The computer is neither part of a domain or workgroup. start > run > control userpasswords 2 advanced tab > "users must enter a username & password" is selected.

It's blank except for one folder - WINXP. It's easy to remove each time, but how can I get this page or whatever it is, to take a hike and get lost, so that just the desktop icons are visible? Would appreciate any help. Using xp home, P4, 1 gig RAM.

I cannot upgrade to Service Pack 2 since I cannot access Windows.I really need to access the files in this computer. Reformat is not an option.
View 14 Replies View Relatedwhenever I start the Laptop it goes to a blue screen and there is a stop error and just stays there until i have to manually restart then goes to the blue screen again.I stupidly pressed install when a pop-up came for the anti-virus xp 2008 spyware came up and since then tried to get rid of it and after a few restarts I got the blue screen.Is there a way to fix this? I'm fine with reinstalling windows but dont know how form here or if it will fix the problem.
View 7 Replies View RelatedThe other day while using my dads laptop, i closed the screen, and on reopening it, it displayed a blank white screen. I turned it off and back on again. It seem to be booting normally until it was time for the desktop to load, at which time the white screen returned. It boots in safe mode and i tried a system restore, which was unsuccessful.
View 1 Replies View RelatedBy trying to reconnect to the internet I messed up Windows 2000 Pro by trying to add a Windows component under add remove programs. I think I tried to add Network services and Other Windows Networking file and print services. One thing to note, I do not have any win2000 setup or recovery CDs. Now when it boots, it goes to a blue screen after booting up with no Icons. It will however, boot into safe mode with icons if you hit F8 but I don't have a clue on how to correct the regular boot up problem. The windows 2000 pro machine hooks up (when it works OK) wirelessly to a Netgear router which is running as an access point that is piggy backed to Lan #4 on a d-Link router which has 2 other machines hardwired to the D Link router. I also have a wireless Dell Laptop which hooks up with no problem to the access point.

He just bought a new video card (Ati 9550 256mb AGP) and he ended up disabling the old video card in device manager. Now, no matter if he installs the new or old card, the screen goes black right before it goes into the desktop. He can hear sound, such as the windows sound. He went into bios, but there's no video options, as this is a custom built PC. He tried to go into safe mode, but that doesn't work..same black screen.

View 5 Replies View RelatedSo yesterday my computer suddenly started getting slow, so I rebooted. When the machine boots, it's all fine, but just after the Windows loading screen, the screen goes black, and the only thing that's active is the mouse cursos which I can move. But I can't right click or anything etc.I can't bring up the Task Manager. I try loading in safe mode but it's still all black, with the expection that the text "Safe mode" is written around the black screen.So what I did was I got a Ultimate Boot CD and loaded from it. I managed to roll back my windows registry to 2003 (manufactor fresh), and now windows actually loaded and I didn't get the black screen anymore, however obviously it was all a complete mess having a registry from so long ago, so I backup rolled it back to the current again, and the black screen returned.
With that logic, shouldn't it be possible to do some tweaks to the registry to solve this issue? I'm a complete beginner and I barely even know the function of the registry. Everything i've tried so far i've just managed to google and follow step by step instructions, so bare with me. But judging from the tools in the Ultimate Boot CD, I can access the windows registry.So basically, where do I take it from here?
A while back I tried to reload the entire WinXP and start from scratch due to some viruses and what not. Before I could complete the process, I decided to try to fix the problems one last time. It Worked. Now when I turn the computer on It automatically directs me to a blue windows setup screen. In order to start WinXP I must manually select windows in the three second time limit.How do I get my computer to automatically start windows at start up?

After approximateyl 45 to 60 seconds of this the boot completes and the desktop appears with the icons. This happens maybe twice out of 10 boots.
View 8 Replies View Related2 SATA Raid hard drives with striping.I'm having problems installing Windows XP Pro on my machine. When we first started to install the OS on the machine, I kept getting a blue screen error message before it boots into setup saying ERROR 0X0000007B. And then after that it started showing up book disk failure. Instead of SATA we tried just one EIDE HD, we switched memory, new cables, new powersupply, we switched the vcard. And just recently we finally switched the Motherboard. Now when we boot off disc we get an error message saying "boot disk failure". So we ran a boot setup windows xp floppy. It gets all the way to where it asks for "please insert windows xp installation cd" and when I do it doesnt recognize it but I hear the CD spinning. We've switched out the CD-roms with 2 different ones and still can't get any progress.

It tries to boot, get to the Windows splash screen and the gas gage starts running across the bottom of the screen and then it hard reboots.I have tried this hard drive on a system that is up and running as the secondary drive, just to get my data off Well the system tells me that the drive is not formatted and wants to format it. Having suffered 3 HDD failures, I have cloned my laptop hard drive (XP Home edition) with Norton Ghost 9.0. I have copied the MBR as well and made it active. Replaced the laptop drive with the cloned drive, but it only boots up to the XP light blue screen and stalls.

When I start the computer, it asks if for the choice of Safe Mode, w/ Networking, w/Command Prompt or Normally.
I've tried them all and if I try it normally, it won't get past the XP loading screen. It's loading and then it flashes a blue screen for a second and then restarts the computer again.
I tried pressing F8 at boot and selected 'Disable automatic restart on system failure' and this is what I get

I even tried using this http://forums.techguy.org/6669592-post28.html to get to chkdsk At boot, F12, chose CD/DVD, but still nothing, I even tried disabling boot from +HDD, FDD and LAN from the bios setup menu to see if it works and this is what I got, it just keeps going on and on unless I enable boot from +HDD

I have this strange problem:I can't see my Bios loading .The screen is totaly black untill the windows' welcome screen , and then everything is back to normal.
It happened when I updated my motherboard Bios (Gigabyte GA-8N-SLI ,Rev. 1.0) through the original vendor's Website
My dads pc was fine then all of the sudden it just restarted.And it came up to the options:restart in safe mode estart in safemode with networking estart in safe mode with networking Last known working config Normal But when he tries any of them.. None of them work The windows loading screen will come up flash a blue screen super fast (cannot read it no matter how hard i try) then go back to boot option screen.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI couldnt start up windows. It would hang at the windows loading screen and go no further. So I was told to try a repair-install. And thats where even more trouble has started. So I started to repair-install. During the Windows Install setup, it gets almost to the point of being completed, but gave me a blue screen error STOP message at around the "18 minutes left" mark. During "Registering components". It would do this every time at the same spot. So I searched a bit about how to solve the problem. One suggestion I found on the interwebs was to try it with only one stick of ram installed, I have four overall at 2gb. So I tried that, next time I boot up to the comp, it loads up the bios, and then goes to the black windows loading screen with the loading bar, then starts with a blue screen saying "Setup is being restarted" So I figure its restarting my windows installation since it never was completed, after that message, the screen goes black with a cursor, and stays that way forever. I immediately put all the ram back in, and no luck, same thing. I tested each individual ram stick, same thing, just goes black. So now, I can't even seem to re-install windows. Did my hard drive just crap out? Some hardware issue? Im already thinking about buying a new fresh hard drive, installing windows on there, and just moving all my files from the old hard drive over to the new one. Though that would be a pain, I really want to save my current drive! And all the data on it.

Before re-formating my notebook, I would like to exhaust all possibilities.After login I see my desktop background image, then the taskbar flashes once and that is it. No desktop, no taskbar, no icons. I can use the task manager to run most programs, so I tried antivirus, adremovers, etc. That didnt help. Then I tried a system restore, but i get this message saying system restore could not load files from the points I had set as restore points.

I must power down to get out of it.The freeze may take place while the desktop is loading, or it may wait for me to do a few thinks, but it doesn't take long. If I boot in safe mode with network it doesn't freeze.If I boot in other than safe mode, when the cursor is left at center screen (after loading my info) it takes several minutes to finish loading systray, desktop, etc.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI was working when my system seemed to go a bit crazy, bunch of windows opened up and told me that my virus protection was not working etc.. I closed them all and ran a quick scan with Symtec to see if I had somehow picked up a virus. Decided to reboot. When I restarted the computer I had this strange circle going on. It goes thru a normal bootup, and when it is loading the tray, it starts going in a circle. Starts loading up programs and then restarts and then restarts etc. Most of the time, after 3 or 4 times it ends with just the wall paper visable. Now, at this point the computer seems ok, I can run most any program by starting them in Task Manager ( applications, new task etc...). In fact that is how I signed up for this forum and wrote the note. BUT I cannot get the desktop back. The only way is to run Windows Explorer, via task manager, then you get it back, but it does the circle thing continously. IF you can get a program started during the part of the circle where icons etc are visable, then it will run. SO, I tried doing a restore, went back one day and ran the restore. Seemed to run normally. BUT the symptoms are the same ( now it was close to midnight, so I should have gone back farther). NOW, when I tried to go and do another restore, to go back farther, the restore program runs normally, except it will not let me choose a day. Shows many possible days and the help runs etc.. the buttons "push" but nothing happens.

You'd think after more than 20 years of working with (and building my own) computers, I'd have seen just about everything, but this is a new one for me.I'm running XP with SP2 installed. I won't install SP3 because I've seen it cause too much trouble on other systems and won't subject mine (or myself) to that mess. I'm not a big Windows fan (and each new version leaves me less of a fan). I learned computers on a CPM system then promptly fell in love with DOS and still prefer it.
I developed a freeze problem about a week ago. When it continued on a daily basis, I started uninstalling software, starting with the most-recently installed. The freeze problem worsened. Eventually the system would begin to load XP, but in the process of loading my desktop items, it would reboot. Got caught in a vicious reboot cycle for a bit. Wouldn't even stabilize long enough for me to disable my desktop items and wouldn't allow me to boot to Safe Mode.Eventually, chkdsk would run (on startup) through steps 1 and 2. Step 3 would show "unspecified error", and XP would boot. Unsuccessfully.
When I turn on my computer, everything seems to be going fine... the manufacturer's screen comes up, then the screen that shows Windows is loading, then it kindof gets stuck between the loading screen and the welcome screen. It just goes black. The hard drive will run continually as if it's searching for the rest of the information, but can't find it.
