Between the Windows XP Pro loading screen (thingy) and my desktop opening, there's an odd pause whilst my computer just sits there doing nothing with the screen completely black, does anyone know what that's about?
Just recently my computer has started to boot slowly, it happens when the windows loading screen appears, the blue bar used to go by about 5 times now it goes by 10 times before that screen disapears and the desktop appears. the only thing i have installed was some updates on the windows update web page and i they were all the critical ones.
I got a new motherboard installed because my old one fried itself and the pc was reformatted and windows was reinstalled. Since then, it was working fine. The start-up time had also lowered considerably and it was working perfectly for once. One thing that's been happening for a while, my computer started taking longer to start-up. I figured it was just all the programs etc I have installed. Then, I have this one external drive that I got connected internally. There were times where it wouldn't recognize this drive; it wouldn't show up on My Computer. Otherwise, it was perfectly fine. one of my most important drives (E) has been missing for the last 2 days. it hasn't shown up even once and i'm really worried i've lost data and need to recover it.
When i open IE6 it takes over a minute for the webpage to appear and meanwhile i cant minimise it etc...... It looks like the program is failing to respond but doesn't say so. Once loaded browsing is normal, althought every time a separate IE window is opened the initial slow response applies followed by normal browsing.
When I start my laptop,it starts normally, desktop icons are shown. However, I cannot access My Computer icon until the icon of my computer is shown in the task bar.
my system is real slo today,im running windows xp home.when i open some web pages it takes a long time to load, and when they do load , at the bottom left corner the page says done but with errors, firefox loads slo as does ie6.can you folks help?
My windows XP pro pc suddenly started to take over 2 hours to start windows to a point where you it is even remotly usable, and even then, simple tasks like opening my computer tackes 20 minuets or more to complete.I have run a host of software and hardware checks, and all come back fine, their are a few bad sectors on the hard drive, so I think a few crucial windows XP files may have been corrupted.System restore doesnt fix this windows issue even when reverting back to the initial configuration from 6 years ago.Is there any way of fixing windows XP without loosing any of the information contained on the Hard Drive?I have tried the install CDs, but they wont install as I have service pack 3 and the CDs pre date service pack 2.
I have a fairly new PC, less than 2 years old.It was the fastest processor at the time. But I don't know exactly what it is.It was built specially for me by a reputable computer shop. They built my last one as well but it was almost 9 years old so that's why the new one. It's running XP Home.I have a comic site and the home page has 40 comics on it.It used to load right up but recently it has been very slow to load. Now it won't even load all of the comics.I have to view them on a separate page.
When I start the computer, it asks if for the choice of Safe Mode, w/ Networking, w/Command Prompt or Normally.
I've tried them all and if I try it normally, it won't get past the XP loading screen. It's loading and then it flashes a blue screen for a second and then restarts the computer again.
I tried pressing F8 at boot and selected 'Disable automatic restart on system failure' and this is what I get
I even tried using this http://forums.techguy.org/6669592-post28.html to get to chkdsk At boot, F12, chose CD/DVD, but still nothing, I even tried disabling boot from +HDD, FDD and LAN from the bios setup menu to see if it works and this is what I got, it just keeps going on and on unless I enable boot from +HDD
I have this strange problem:I can't see my Bios loading .The screen is totaly black untill the windows' welcome screen , and then everything is back to normal. It happened when I updated my motherboard Bios (Gigabyte GA-8N-SLI ,Rev. 1.0) through the original vendor's Website
My dads pc was fine then all of the sudden it just restarted. And it came up to the options:restart in safe mode estart in safemode with networking estart in safe mode with networking Last known working config Normal But when he tries any of them.. None of them work The windows loading screen will come up flash a blue screen super fast (cannot read it no matter how hard i try) then go back to boot option screen.
I couldnt start up windows. It would hang at the windows loading screen and go no further. So I was told to try a repair-install. And thats where even more trouble has started. So I started to repair-install. During the Windows Install setup, it gets almost to the point of being completed, but gave me a blue screen error STOP message at around the "18 minutes left" mark. During "Registering components". It would do this every time at the same spot. So I searched a bit about how to solve the problem. One suggestion I found on the interwebs was to try it with only one stick of ram installed, I have four overall at 2gb. So I tried that, next time I boot up to the comp, it loads up the bios, and then goes to the black windows loading screen with the loading bar, then starts with a blue screen saying "Setup is being restarted" So I figure its restarting my windows installation since it never was completed, after that message, the screen goes black with a cursor, and stays that way forever. I immediately put all the ram back in, and no luck, same thing. I tested each individual ram stick, same thing, just goes black. So now, I can't even seem to re-install windows. Did my hard drive just crap out? Some hardware issue? Im already thinking about buying a new fresh hard drive, installing windows on there, and just moving all my files from the old hard drive over to the new one. Though that would be a pain, I really want to save my current drive! And all the data on it.
I have an HP pavilion 530 with Windows XP and about a week ago it started running very slow at loading internet sites and I need help. It was running fine but then my antivirus started warning me about intrusion attempts to my port, They were blocked of course but the computer is really slow hanging up alot
My computer takes about 8 minutes to load up upon startup. I've ran my anti-virus programs and nothing comes up. Also, while online it comes up with a lot of broken links. So, I don't know what to do about it. Is there a real good free troubleshooting program that might be able to see what's wrong? Does anyone have any good ideas as to what is going on?
My Dell Dimension 2400 computer has slowed greatly in the startup (especially) and loading processes. I would appreciate guidance on what to check as most likely cause.
My startup is very slow...intrnet explorer 7 opens very slowly...everything is very slow. the Welcome startup screen stay for atleast 30 seconds tats very long.svchost.exe keeps loading all the time.
Have windows xp professional, and all of a sudden it is loading and running very slow, takes 15 minutes just to get allof desktop up. have norton anti virus and outpost firewall and i have a microsoft spyware program all installed on it.
i just replaced my hard drive and installed all the software: but when i put in a search on any Browser - it is taking 20 to 30 seconds to load the page? but i have a 20 meg download speed. what do i have to do to rectify the problem.
I gave my old computer to my parents. It's extremely slow loading pages and programs. How can I delete everything but the OS and Microsoft Office and start fresh? I've tried to add/remove programs but it does not help. I've tried Registry Clean but it does not help.
I've read your recent response to a hanging pc issue & thought you might could also help me.My pc too has slowed down over the last 3-4 months. I use MS2000 w/Win XP Home edition,Due to a word issue, I downloaded & use openoffice org tools for this & now use firefox as a browser. As a result, I'm hanging at least 10 mins waiting for software or browsers to open.
I was wondering why or if anyone knew why a PC is slow in opening/loading programs. For instance it takes awhile before my Norton loads on my screen and my IncrediMail takes a while before it starts/loads too.
I have run into a snag. After installing Trendmicro I started having problems. After the install it took forever to load, and when it did I get a warning that I have no virus protection. I removed Trend with it's own removal tool and installed AVG Free, I get the same thing, The resident shield and email won't start. I install Vipre and the same thing protection is turned off and won't turn on. I have cleaned the registry of all norton traces, avg and others. I have did a scan with viper while it was installed and found a few items that I cleaned. I'm at my wits end and have never seen this happen before.
I recently downloaded numerous IE updates and I believe my problems started there.I've run numerous software programs: Spysweeper by Webroot System Mechanic, Pest Patrol AdAware Spyware Doctor All of which haven't solved the problem. I've even run a dllfix that has produced no results as well. I have WindowXP home edition. I can go to certain websites and they will instantly load no problems, other sites just do not load correctly. I have broadband and it is acting like dial-up to the tee. It seems that the frequently viewed sites have less trouble than lets say a site I pull up through a news site or other. My computer is normally lightning speed when moving through the internet. No pop-up problems or the like.I've tried looking up a thread on here close to the problems I am having but to no avail I haven't found anything similar to my exact situation. On my system mechanic I picked up and disabled a hotkeycommand process along with a Igfxtray program.
I have a Gateway desktop, running XP Home with Pentium 4 CPU, 2.4 GHz, 256 MB ram, with 74.5 GB HD at 88% free, using FireFox 3.0.13 and Mcafee Security Suite from Comcast. I have followed other thread advice and removed old Java files, Adaware and Spybot S& D, and installed Superantispyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, CCleaner and HiJackthis. I have tried everything I know but working on this computer is like watching paint dry.
I recently bought an ASUS A8JP Notebook PC (WinXp MCE, 1Gig RAM, 2.0Ghz Core 2 Duo) and I guess it ran well the first day, but as soon as I installed all the needed software (and cleared out some factory installed bloatware), I noticed that the time for my Desktop to load after logon takes up to 2 minutes. Here's what I've done to try fix this
1. Defragmented HD 2. Turned off unwanted startup items and about 1/3 of the services at startup. 3. Tweaked and cleaned up the registry. 4. Flashed my BIOS to the latest Revision.
My IE7's been running really slow starting this past week. I don't know what the cause is exactly. I can't figure out if it's the IE software on the PC or if it has something to do with the internet connection. I've run the following to diagnose my problem: NAV 2007 - No Viruses Webroos SpySweeper - No Spyware Optonline speedcheck Utility (when I can get it to run) - the results are very good 13-15mbps down and ~1.5mbps up. I would've posted this last night, but I couldn't get the page to load and even the optonline homepage sometimes wouldn't load. Also, I've noticed that images aren't loading onto the web pages. Just getting a box with an "x" in it. Don't remember if that is an IE security setting that i just need to allow or a an invasion to my system. I reset the IE7 settings to clear anything within IE, but that just made me lose my settings and IE still ran slow and inconsistently. I've checkd the ADD/Remove list and the list of folders within the program files folder and I've found nothing bad has been installed on the sly. Not really sure if this is a problem with optonline's signal or if I've gotten something on my PC that just isn't getting found by NAV and spysweeper. I'm trying to hold off on restoring my system image file, but if I must. I'd like totry to diagnose this if I can.
When I turn on my computer, everything seems to be going fine... the manufacturer's screen comes up, then the screen that shows Windows is loading, then it kindof gets stuck between the loading screen and the welcome screen. It just goes black. The hard drive will run continually as if it's searching for the rest of the information, but can't find it.
When I load windows, it gets up to the loading screen, stays on for a second, or less, and then just the screen blanks out and restarts again...This is after my first PC build. THe Harddrive is detected fine...(its also the one i used from the old computer I had...) What can i do for this?
there was a notification error said that Partition Magic can't read my Hard Drive, because of 'drive wrong naming' (i forgot the exact word) then came up an option 'do you want to fix it?' YES/NO - I chose YES but after that, I can't go into to windows again (Vista64) it stuck on loading process forever
- Hard Drive are detected on BIOS
- When I use another 'health' HD with this 'broken' one, then the 'health' HD won't boot either, but it will normally boot again if I unplugged the 'broken' HD
- When booting via Windows Installation Disk (tried to re-install Windows), it stuck again on windows loading
