Slow Loading And Browsing: Remove Java Files?

I have a Gateway desktop, running XP Home with Pentium 4 CPU, 2.4 GHz, 256 MB ram, with 74.5 GB HD at 88% free, using FireFox 3.0.13 and Mcafee Security Suite from Comcast. I have followed other thread advice and removed old Java files, Adaware and Spybot S& D, and installed Superantispyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, CCleaner and HiJackthis. I have tried everything I know but working on this computer is like watching paint dry.

When i open IE6 it takes over a minute for the webpage to appear and meanwhile i cant minimise it etc...... It looks like the program is failing to respond but doesn't say so. Once loaded browsing is normal, althought every time a separate IE window is opened the initial slow response applies followed by normal browsing.

I am using Windows XP Home Edition. When booting up, Windows goes directely
to loading files and takes at least 20 minutes before the sign in screen
appears. Do you have a answer to solve this problem?

I have xp pro sp2 ie6 and use my isp as my homepage. When logging in i get a blank page with this error ie java script error description gat is undefined source www.tpg.com.au line 86. Clicking on either the ok or cancel loads the page. Firefox loads the homepage with no problem and changing my homepage to another web site does not bring up this error.

i got amd 5200+x2 brisbane 1x 2gig mem chip win xp spk3 all drivers updated machine full ok but as soon as my wifi 802.11b/g key on net at 54mbps everything slows and web browsing near impossible on IE8 and google cpu runs at 0% most of time ? and temp of cpu 34 and 35 average.

I got a new motherboard installed because my old one fried itself and the pc was reformatted and windows was reinstalled. Since then, it was working fine. The start-up time had also lowered considerably and it was working perfectly for once.One thing that's been happening for a while, my computer started taking longer to start-up. I figured it was just all the programs etc I have installed. Then, I have this one external drive that I got connected internally. There were times where it wouldn't recognize this drive; it wouldn't show up on My Computer. Otherwise, it was perfectly fine. one of my most important drives (E) has been missing for the last 2 days. it hasn't shown up even once and i'm really worried i've lost data and need to recover it.

In checking my ADD/REMOVE I noticed that I have both Java 6 updates #5 and #3. One is 136mb and the other 133mb. To save some memory is it alright to delete that older update?

i just bought this new computer for 1 of the staff and i have configured his profile. but then i tried to browse the internet and found it very slow, not in opening the IE, but in loading the pages. it takes around 20 to 30 seconds to load a page. when i use ping to check the connectivity, it takes a long time to display the first line, but it gives me a 1ms when pinging the server, which is good.
now i login with the administrator account and find the internet browsing is fast, but again the ping takes a while to display the first line. i did give that user Administrator permissions and tried again, but it's the same issue. i thought it would be higher permissions which could affect the user. So, i added the user to "domain admins", "administrators" groups, and i tried again, but the same situation

I recently reinstalled windows xp (sp3 integrated) on my C drive and had yet installed audio and video drivers only. This PC has two internal hard disks; one 80GB with partitions C through I and other 40GB with a single partition J on it. All partitions are NTFS formated. Browsing folders on all partitions is fast except J where it is extremely slow.
To troubleshoot this, I ran Sysinternals Process Monitor (Procmon.exe) and observed some strange behaviour for explorer.exe. Every time I select a root folder on J for opening (using mouse or keyboard), explorer enumerates all sub-folders recursively which consumes several seconds if folder contains a lot of sub-folders and files. On my husband's computer windows xp SP2 I wanted to update Java to 6 version 1.7 so I tried to remove 6 version 15 but it wouldn't do anything. No error just wouldn't remove. So I removed it with windows installer cleanup utility. Then I downloaded the new version and it's not in add and remove programs. So I was going to remove it and re install it and I can't find it in the windows cleanup or in cc cleaner to remove it. I clicked on the coffee cup in the control panel and it says he has the newest version.

i bought a new pc bought 2 months ago and i hope this isnt a serious problem but when i goto my documents or mainly newhere on my computer and start file browsing if i click on what i think seems to always be a media file of any sort it comes up with ann error message saying windows has encountered a problem bla bla bla plz could someone help me with this as i think this is also begining to effect when i try to convert avi files todvd in winavi but i dont know i just hope someone can help me with the error messages mainly

My antivirus detected krag.exe and removed it from my flash drive. However, when I try to open the drive by double-clicking on the corresponding drive (F in My Computer, a pop-up window appears saying "Choose the program you want to use to open this file:". I chose windows explorer since it's what you use when trying to explore or browse through files.
The problem is, the "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file" is grayed out and can't be checked/ticked. So, I have to keep pointing the "open with" pop-up box to explorer.exe whenever I want to browse the files in my flash drive.The last attempt that I did to fix this problem was to right click on the drive letter then properties then went to the autoplay tab and chose "Open folder to view files". The "Open with" pop-up box still appears whenever i double click on the drive letter.

Oh and also every once in awhile I can't get java to run (yahoo or any other game site) and it says I don't have it installed but, I just used it the day before. Just recently my computer has started to boot slowly, it happens when the windows loading screen appears, the blue bar used to go by about 5 times now it goes by 10 times before that screen disapears and the desktop appears. the only thing i have installed was some updates on the windows update web page and i they were all the critical ones.

I can't install JAVA on my computer. I get error 1722 from java. I have followed everything on the page regarding how to get around this problem but with no success. Running XP on a 120 gig disk. It is partitioned and I can only use 70 gb and am running out of space. Is there any way to remove the partition and be able to use the full disk without losing all my files and programs? There is nothing on the smaller partition.

My windows XP pro pc suddenly started to take over 2 hours to start windows to a point where you it is even remotly usable, and even then, simple tasks like opening my computer tackes 20 minuets or more to complete.I have run a host of software and hardware checks, and all come back fine, their are a few bad sectors on the hard drive, so I think a few crucial windows XP files may have been corrupted.System restore doesnt fix this windows issue even when reverting back to the initial configuration from 6 years ago.Is there any way of fixing windows XP without loosing any of the information contained on the Hard Drive?I have tried the install CDs, but they wont install as I have service pack 3 and the CDs pre date service pack 2.

I have a fairly new PC, less than 2 years old.It was the fastest processor at the time.But I don't know exactly what it is.It was built specially for me by a reputable computer shop.They built my last one as well but it was almost 9 years old so that's why the new one.It's running XP Home.I have a comic site and the home page has 40 comics on it.It used to load right up but recently it has been very slow to load. Now it won't even load all of the comics.I have to view them on a separate page.

when I browse "My Network Places", the browsing is so incredibly slow. It takes a long while when you click one icon in the “My Network Places” for that to open up and go to the next directory or when just first displaying the computers in “My Network Places”, it goes so slow.
I use Windows Workgroup on the LAN to share out internet. Everything else, other than browsing the network, works great. The internet browses nice and fast.
This morning I opened My Network Places while my pc was still loading all the programs at start-up and "My Network Places" was fast. After a few minutes it was back to normal low pace. Now I guess it is something running on my pc slowing it down. Is it maybe to do with XP Service Pack 2? Before installing SP2 the network browsing on my pc is fast, after installing SP2, it is slow. Other computers on the network without SP2 browse the network quite fast.
All the pc's on the network has XP Pro.

My computer takes about 8 minutes to load up upon startup. I've ran my anti-virus programs and nothing comes up. Also, while online it comes up with a lot of broken links. So, I don't know what to do about it. Is there a real good free troubleshooting program that might be able to see what's wrong? Does anyone have any good ideas as to what is going on?
