I am using Windows XP Home Edition. When booting up, Windows goes directely
to loading files and takes at least 20 minutes before the sign in screen
appears. Do you have a answer to solve this problem?
I got a new motherboard installed because my old one fried itself and the pc was reformatted and windows was reinstalled. Since then, it was working fine. The start-up time had also lowered considerably and it was working perfectly for once.One thing that's been happening for a while, my computer started taking longer to start-up. I figured it was just all the programs etc I have installed. Then, I have this one external drive that I got connected internally. There were times where it wouldn't recognize this drive; it wouldn't show up on My Computer. Otherwise, it was perfectly fine. one of my most important drives (E) has been missing for the last 2 days. it hasn't shown up even once and i'm really worried i've lost data and need to recover it.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI have a demension 8400 with windows xp pro media center. It has a 3 ghz processor 160gb hard drive. I have it on a wireless setup. I don't know much about the inside of a computer so I need help. It is extremely slow to open 1/2 hour or so and even more so to get into any program or internet. Yesterday I checked everything I could check and somehow or another I found a screen that had appeared stating errors and saying something about images not being able to open.

I am experiencing a very slow start up. It is usually at least 5 minutes before I can click on anything to get it to come up.Shutdown is just as bad.Have added startup processes also to this post.I have a Toshiba laptop running XP Home.

We tried a ChkDisk because my father told me that has fixed his PC before. It didn't help any because it said the disk was fine. I then tried a system restore, which did not help either. View 10 Replies View RelatedI have an HP A1750Y Desktop. Specs are ASUS P5LP-LE MoBo, 2GB Ram, Pentium D 820 2.8 Ghz processor. I bought this computer with Windows Vista installed, and have been running it that way for the last few years. Boot-up has always been extremely slow, even from the day it was new, and it had gotten worse to the point that it would take about 15-20 minutes to boot. The Bios screen itself would be on for a long time, and then after the Vista Desktop would load, it would still be an additional 5 minutes until icons or the start bar would load.
To my surprise, the boot times were not improved at all! The computer itself works well and has good speed after finally booting up, but it takes about 15-20 minutes from power on, until you can use the OS. I did the install with a brand new HDD, so a HDD problem is not the culprit.
Recently I was attempting to run a legit version of Splinter Cell, Double Agent on my PC. It indicated that my RAM was low and one other thing which I don't remember but it was also below spec. Anyway, I thought I would run it anyway, just to have a look even if it had a few issues with performance. Well, it crashed hard and froze my PC. I had to do a hard boot and ever since then if I have to reboot, my pc shuts down just fine but the boot up takes approx 90 minutes. I have run Adaware, Windows Defender & a full virus scan.
I have also run RegistryFix to correct the registry, all to no avail
I'm running a 3 year old version of XP pro and it has gotten progressively slower booting up. Seems like about two to three minutes or so ( I should time it). I've run msconfig and there doesn't seem to be anything too obvious and I don't want to screw with things I'm not sure of as well. Also, when launching Outlook Express ,any browser and Word are really slow also. Excel is fine. Seems really odd. I've run antivirus, antispyware, defrag all to no avail
View 9 Replies View RelatedBoot up was extemely slow and would not allow internet (dsl) connection. I have fixed that by using the wireless card instead as I believe a driver is gone. I now no why she didn't want it anymore. When I ran spybot it came up with 37 items for removal. I have also run AD-Aware which continues to find some trojan viruses. I also have Avast running. I have reached the the extent of my tech abilityand although it seems to run better I still believe it is infected.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI recently bought an ASUS A8JP Notebook PC (WinXp MCE, 1Gig RAM, 2.0Ghz Core 2 Duo) and I guess it ran well the first day, but as soon as I installed all the needed software (and cleared out some factory installed bloatware), I noticed that the time for my Desktop to load after logon takes up to 2 minutes.Here's what I've done to try fix this
1. Defragmented HD
2. Turned off unwanted startup items and about 1/3 of the services at startup.
3. Tweaked and cleaned up the registry.
4. Flashed my BIOS to the latest Revision.
I just cleaned out a slightly infection of spyware and viruses on this computer and everything looks nice a clean but unfortunately there seems to be some residual problems.My startup is much slower, the 'loading your personal settings' can take upwards of 2 minutes. But, it can by by-passed by hitting ctrl-alt-del. Once I get to the desktop I notice that Norton Anti-Virus is disabled and it stays disabled until the icons load which ALSO takes another 2-3 minutes. I can open programs and they run fine but I am unable select anything on the desktop or right click on it.
I've never had slowdown like this on here before. It also only seems to be happening on this one windows account, the other ones load up much faster. I've cleaned it the best I can running all the normal apps and some other cleaners. Even tried restoring the desktop back to the windows xp default appearance.
Just recently my computer has started to boot slowly, it happens when the windows loading screen appears, the blue bar used to go by about 5 times now it goes by 10 times before that screen disapears and the desktop appears. the only thing i have installed was some updates on the windows update web page and i they were all the critical ones.

I would like to erase this partition, is there an automatic way to do it?
Or at least, if it's too difficult to erase it, I'd like to start directly with windows.once loggen in windows, I am asked whether I want to start with winXP or win2000, but I don't have win2000 installed , so I'd like to erase this option page and log directly with win XP
I have a problem with windows 2k or at least when it's booting up.When my computer boots, it asks me if I want to run win xp, win 2k, or win 2k start up. I just want it to boot directly to 2k without prompting me.

I have followed other thread advice and removed old Java files, Adaware and Spybot S& D, and installed Superantispyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, CCleaner and HiJackthis. I have tried everything I know but working on this computer is like watching paint dry.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI used a program to delete hidden files from loading up on boot. Two were casino files that I had already deleted. I unchecked the boxes to prevent them from loading up. I then became creative and kept going. Apparently I uncchecked a file to load up win xp pro. Now I get the blank screen that says "invalid boot diskette, insert boot diskette in A:" I do but it is not reading the A: drive. I then tried to get into setup to change the boot sequence to cdrom first but the blank screen asks me to enter a password. I never needed a password to get into setup before. When I type my system passwore and hit enter all that appears is an X, after three times it kicks me back to the insert boot diskette page.

View 8 Replies View RelatedAnyhow, on my second laptop, my roommate borrowed it and of course has no idea what she could've possibly ever done. She's probably a lil' too dense to realize if she download or got some kind of virus using it. And, of course, she didn't bother telling me right away so when I went to start up the laptop one day, it was going extremely slow.It took about 10 minutes for the laptop to boot to the windows login screen. Any mouse movement whether on the mousepad or when I hook up my USB mouse takes about 1 minute to register any movement. I haven't even been able to get to the main desktop screen. (I'm trying as I type.. but, judging by the length of how long it took the other stuff, I could be in for a long wait.) Even when I typed in the password it took about 5 minutes for it to seemingly type out.. but the "dots" cut off so I have no idea if it actually will go through or not or if I will get the "incorrect password" error message.
