I have a problem with windows 2k or at least when it's booting up.When my computer boots, it asks me if I want to run win xp, win 2k, or win 2k start up. I just want it to boot directly to 2k without prompting me.

View 11 Replies View RelatedWhen i booted up my pc to put some coursework on a usb stick, it failed to boot to xp. It went to the "xp was not shutdown properly,boot to safe mode, or last known working settings screen, ETC". None of the options work, i have tried all of them, safe mode and last known working settings included. When i select one of the options, the hardrive spins up, and then my gfx card bios info and mobo splash screen come on. Well, i think it might be because i ran a 'virus remover' for the game gmod, this was the first time the computer had been booted since i ran it.

When it boots up, it goes to a black screen and has Windows XP Pro and Windows XP listed with the Win XP Pro selected and boots to it in 15 seconds or so if nothing is selected. I have read somewhere about this before and have NO clue where I read it, but does anyone know how to get rid of the option (Win XP) that really doesn't even exist on the hard drive?

Windows Vista Home Premium (one)Windows Vista Home Premium (two).At boot up, I got a screen showing all three installatons, and I used the up/downkey on my keyboard to select whichever i wanted to run.One hour ago I reinstalled XP.On startup, the opportunity to select which OS to run no longer appears. Instead, the computer boots directly into XP.I tried playing around with Vista Boot Pro, unsuccessfully. The three OS are listed and the Vista HP (one) shows up as default. But rebooting only boots into XP.I tried Repair Your Computer from the Vista installation disc. But the chance to click the operating system I want to repair is not available. Instead another window appears, which says there is a problem with the boot, and do I want to repair it and restart. I click on Yes, but it restarts and still boots straight into XP again.
Recently, I had to use the command "bootcfg /rebuild", which fixed a booting problem I was experiencing. However, now it asks what OS I'd like to boot from every time. The problem: It shows "Microsoft XP Home Edition" Twice. Is there any way to fix this and to just allow XP to boot automatically every time without prompt?

There Windows XP (which I usually click), a Skeleton Boot (some boot screen program I was screwing with), another Windows XP (haven't used it, maybe a previous installation?), and some other windows option that my computer first came with.
Anyways, I know that I only use the first one so is there a way to eliminate the other 3 from the menu? Ideally I would like to not even see the menu when I boot the computer, I'd like it to just go through to windows. I thought I remembered seeing a control panel or some settings for that area somewhere but I can't remember where.
I just install my xp To my System as a primary system os. and id like to install win 98 as a backup os. and is there any possiblity that i can boot my system to xp without going to that os choice menu? and from inside xp (after booting xp) transfer from win98 without rebooting again?

Whenever I attempt to boot windows XP from a tested and working HDD, I am given the screen with the option for safemode, regularboot, etc. After selecting a boot option, the PC will start the boot process, and then a few seconds reboot, without any error message. Insterestingly, I can boot just fine with the LiveCD into Linux.

The slave (E drive) was taken from my old comp which ran under Win ME (which should still be installed on it). I need to boot up with ME as a "work around" to print some files using a RIP program that is not supported by XP.Is it possible to boot from the slave HD? I looked under the setup options accessed by hitting f12 key during start up, and the "E" drive did not show up on the list of drives. Floppy, Cd drives, and a USB external drive did show up. I also tried looking under a menu accessed by hitting the f2 key...and a second hard drive showed up in that menu, but the options I had available were "off" (the setting I found it set at) or "auto", I changed it to "auto" and tried to reboot but it said "no loader_"

View 4 Replies View Relatedok my neighbors Dell was having problems loading windows so i took alook at it it would still lock up in safe mode before the windows login screen so i tried to use the windows disk to repair windows but they forgot the passord that they used and it wouldnt let me repair with out a admin password so i decided to format so i used the windows xp home edition disk to format all the partions and reinstalled windows now its seeing 2 copys of windows when u boot up and giving the option to pick wich windows xp home edition i want to boot with.

I had a Win 2000 install on my D: drive at one time but that drive has since been reformatted, so I'm at a loss as to why I have to choose an install at every boot.
I tried to rebuild the boot.ini file using the XP Setup Recovery console but that only added a 3rd option to the list of installs to choose from at boot-up.
My question is, can I edit the startup options manually and delete the 2nd and 3rd lines, or is there another way to clean this up so my rig boots to the C: drive automatically every time?
When I start my pc I get an option to either start Windows XP or to run Windows XP Setup. If I am not quick then it automatically selects Windows XP setup where it goes into the intial setup screens where I need to quit and re-boot the PC. There is nothing wrong with my pc and I have no need to carry out any setup tasks, what I want to do is to get rid of this option.
