I had Windows XP Pro on my computer, but I decided to install Fedora on my machine as well. What the problem is, is that when I boot up, my computer boots directly into Fedora (there is a few seconds where fedora will ask you to press a key to enter a menu to select which OS to use, but if you don't press anything it will go right into Fedora) but I want it to boot directly into Windows.
View 9 Replies View RelatedThe display comes up at a reduced screen size and I have to go into Display Properties Settings and change the resolution up (which causes the screen to fill the display) and then set the res back to what it was (1280x1024). There are two monitors showing:
1. (Multiple monitors) on Dell 8200
2. Plug and Play monitor on Dell 8200
Number 2 is listed as inactive
I would like to delete the multiple monitor feature completely since I will never be using anything but the laptop monitor now. Any help would be appreciated.
I am using Windows XP Home SP2.
I am the only user on this machine.
In Documents & Settings I see 3 Users: Administrator; All Users; and, Owner.
Can I safely move everything from All Users and Owner to Administrator? Then delete All Users & Owner?
I have built an new xp pro machine and upon first boot up, it created (among others) a My Documents folder. Then when I used the Files and Settings Transfer wizard, it moved my old My Documents folder from the old machine to the new one. Problem is, they have different names. I expect if I'd named them identically, there wouldn't be two of them. Each file I try to save defaults to the one from the old machine. My question is, can I safely
delete the other?
I recently performed a system recovery after getting a rather nasty virus. Everything else seems fine apart from these multiple instances of my administrator folder:
I'd like to delete all these un-necessary folders but when I try it says they are necessary for windows to run properly.
I have a problem with windows 2k or at least when it's booting up.When my computer boots, it asks me if I want to run win xp, win 2k, or win 2k start up. I just want it to boot directly to 2k without prompting me.

View 2 Replies View RelatedUp to one hour ago, I had a multiple boot set up on my computer.Windows XP
Windows Vista Home Premium (one)Windows Vista Home Premium (two). At boot up, I got a screen showing all three installatons, and I used the up/downkey on my keyboard to select whichever i wanted to run.One hour ago I reinstalled XP.On startup, the opportunity to select which OS to run no longer appears. Instead, the computer boots directly into XP.I tried playing around with Vista Boot Pro, unsuccessfully. The three OS are listed and the Vista HP (one) shows up as default. But rebooting only boots into XP.I tried Repair Your Computer from the Vista installation disc. But the chance to click the operating system I want to repair is not available. Instead another window appears, which says there is a problem with the boot, and do I want to repair it and restart. I click on Yes, but it restarts and still boots straight into XP again.
I tried to install XP in my computer, but wanted to check if disc would run first as my machine is pretty old, so done it from startup with the disc and it stalled and wouldnt install XP
But now at startup i have to choose windows2000 or XP setup at startup and it automatically chooses XP install,I have to watch startup to change the choice every time
How can i get rid of the XP install choice please
I tried upgrading my os to vista then decided I wasn't going to but ever since then I have been having problems with windows xp. When I boot up, I am given an option of choosing windows xp, or windows xp setup. I then have 3 situations:
1.If I choose windows xp my computer runs normally.
2.If I choose xp setup nothing happens I get a blank black screen.
3.If I do nothing I get a black screen that has one message, at the top it says windows is missing <windows root>system32hal.dll..How can I set my computer back to its normal state?
The subject speaks for itself.Do the f8 thing, see all of the drivers load, see the sptd.sys message and then shazam reboot and into the choice screen again. I tried all 3 safe mode choices and nada.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a dual boot system (2 hard drives) booting Suse and XP and boot up through Suse's built in boot manager which gives me the option of booting to Windows or Linux. But since I barely ever use Linux I want to delete it off the 2nd drive so I can use it for a storage drive, so I'm wondering how to replace the Windows Master Boot Record so I can just boot into my XP drive. I'm scared that once I delete/reformat the contents of the 2nd hard drive (I'll probably use Partition Magic to do this through my XP drive) that I won't be able to boot XP up anymore. So before I do anything I want to just be able to boot into XP and bypass the linux drive before I delete it to make sure everything is ok.
View 2 Replies View RelatedLast night I started getting a pop-up box during boot-up that stated something like "press Ctrl, Alt, Delete to boot, computer is locked up." Doing this command "unlocks" the computer and then another window pops-up asking for the user name and password. After doing that chore, the computer boots-up normally.Doing a Google on this problem.

I then became creative and kept going. Apparently I uncchecked a file to load up win xp pro. Now I get the blank screen that says "invalid boot diskette, insert boot diskette in A:" I do but it is not reading the A: drive. I then tried to get into setup to change the boot sequence to cdrom first but the blank screen asks me to enter a password. I never needed a password to get into setup before. When I type my system passwore and hit enter all that appears is an X, after three times it kicks me back to the insert boot diskette page.

After cleaning all the pests, the OS (WIN XP Home SP1) remained corrupted. He was able to use the PC but there was no windows update functionality, no firewall, inability to execute certain setup files, no antivirus program and other little funny things going on. We could not execute any firewall or antivirus setup program. User accounts said that he had one user (user1) and a guest account that was
turned off. User1 was the administrator. There was no password protection.

View 2 Replies View Related1---I have just WAYYYYY to many pop-ups about 6-8 an hour, even on idle computer.
2---It is so slow. When minimizing a page, I watch it close from the top of the screen to the bottom and that takes 15 seconds, and sometimes my icons are missing when it finally fully minimizes.
3---After booting up it takes me a good 5 minutes before the mouse's "time-sand" icon to dissappear, therefore not letting me do anything with the computer right away.
4--Sometimes when using websites like "google" or "yahoo" from internet explorer, there is a big delay from when I type in the words, and those words to appear on the screen.
5---Streaming movies from websites are rarely synchronized with the sound and the picture on the screen, something that none of my friends have.
6--I revently purchased an external hard drive, and ever since doing that a message comes up within seconds of turning on my computer that reads something along the lines of "Unkown Devise, hit any key" then it boots up normally (note: The slowness of the computer has happened way before the external harddrive, and purchased it with hopes that would cure some of the problems)
