i have an asus p5nsli, i cant see windows xp because of a new acer display driver that doesnt work, apparently. on bootup, when i press F8, i only get the options to boot from floppy, hd, or cd-drives....how can i get to safe mode? pressing delete gives me the bios, i've tried every key on the board.

When it boots up, it goes to a black screen and has Windows XP Pro and Windows XP listed with the Win XP Pro selected and boots to it in 15 seconds or so if nothing is selected. I have read somewhere about this before and have NO clue where I read it, but does anyone know how to get rid of the option (Win XP) that really doesn't even exist on the hard drive?

It went to the "xp was not shutdown properly,boot to safe mode, or last known working settings screen, ETC". None of the options work, i have tried all of them, safe mode and last known working settings included. When i select one of the options, the hardrive spins up, and then my gfx card bios info and mobo splash screen come on. Well, i think it might be because i ran a 'virus remover' for the game gmod, this was the first time the computer had been booted since i ran it.
View 4 Replies View Relatedfirst i get the HP blue screen. I tried F1, but i dont see my hard drive in the boot menu. I followed some steps in Hp's web site- took the cpu apart and unplugged both hard drives from the motherboard, plugged them back in. when i restarted ,i got the HP screen and then windows started to load up. After a few seconds the HP screen came back up and then the black screen: sk boot failure, insert system disk and press enter. I also noticed that pressing F10 for system recovery does nothing.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI have had this weird problem that seems random (i know computers arent really random but I cant figure out the cause). I have Win7 and WinXp in a dual boot working fine then after like a week of everything being fine my XP will not boot. I get to the Boot Manager and select XP and the screen just goes black and the system reboots back to the Boot Manager. I am having trouble finding the exact problem because I dont know win booting very well. I am assuming the MBR is fine because it gets to the Boot Manager fine. So I figure it is something with the WinXP partition. Win7 boots perfect. I have tried resetting up the boot with Easy BCD 2.0 beta (way better than 1.x) with no success.
This is not the first time this has happened, I end up having to either install XP fresh or do a repair install. I made a Acronis True Image backup and when everything was working then restored it with no success. I am getting really sick of this happening though because this is like the 6th time this has happened. The XP install is only used to game so it is bare minimum programs. I would appreciate any help in finding the route of the problem so that I can fix it instead of reinstalling the OS.
So when I boot my PC, I am asked to choose between booting up XP Home and XP Pro. The OS I want is XP Pro, and when I choose it, everything works perfectly. I would just like to know how to remove the XP Home option from the startup prompt.

There Windows XP (which I usually click), a Skeleton Boot (some boot screen program I was screwing with), another Windows XP (haven't used it, maybe a previous installation?), and some other windows option that my computer first came with.
Anyways, I know that I only use the first one so is there a way to eliminate the other 3 from the menu? Ideally I would like to not even see the menu when I boot the computer, I'd like it to just go through to windows. I thought I remembered seeing a control panel or some settings for that area somewhere but I can't remember where.
When i restart my compter or turn it on. i get prompted for windows xp professional twice and a windows xp setup. only ones valid and works.
View 1 Replies View Relatedwe have an XP box at work we use for testing custom apps we create...we threw in an extra drive and put Vista on this drive just to test out our apps...after testing, we removed the drive (and hence Vista) leaving just the main drive with XP...our boot options still list Vista as a boot option..i know fixmbr works with XP, but there is another command (can't remember what it is, never used it) for Vista...using XP, can i use the fixmbr command to remove the Vista boot option? if not, how should i remove the second boot option from XP?
View 7 Replies View Relatedi used my Xp disk to partition my slave hd in my desktop since i have done this i get an option when i boot of two windows xp to start.The first has something to do with me mucking around with the slave drive and the second is my actual sytem os It automatically tries to boot from the first and faulters saying there is system files missing.I can boot from the second option fine but i dont want to allways have to be changing options everytime i reboot I would like to know if there is a way through my bios (or xp itself )that i can delete this option on booting

Whenever I attempt to boot windows XP from a tested and working HDD, I am given the screen with the option for safemode, regularboot, etc. After selecting a boot option, the PC will start the boot process, and then a few seconds reboot, without any error message. Insterestingly, I can boot just fine with the LiveCD into Linux.

The slave (E drive) was taken from my old comp which ran under Win ME (which should still be installed on it). I need to boot up with ME as a "work around" to print some files using a RIP program that is not supported by XP.Is it possible to boot from the slave HD? I looked under the setup options accessed by hitting f12 key during start up, and the "E" drive did not show up on the list of drives. Floppy, Cd drives, and a USB external drive did show up. I also tried looking under a menu accessed by hitting the f2 key...and a second hard drive showed up in that menu, but the options I had available were "off" (the setting I found it set at) or "auto", I changed it to "auto" and tried to reboot but it said "no loader_"

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a fresh install of Win XP on my C: drive and whenever I boot the PC I get options on which windows install to boot into. I had a Win 2000 install on my D: drive at one time but that drive has since been reformatted, so I'm at a loss as to why I have to choose an install at every boot.
I tried to rebuild the boot.ini file using the XP Setup Recovery console but that only added a 3rd option to the list of installs to choose from at boot-up.
My question is, can I edit the startup options manually and delete the 2nd and 3rd lines, or is there another way to clean this up so my rig boots to the C: drive automatically every time?
When I start my pc I get an option to either start Windows XP or to run Windows XP Setup. If I am not quick then it automatically selects Windows XP setup where it goes into the intial setup screens where I need to quit and re-boot the PC. There is nothing wrong with my pc and I have no need to carry out any setup tasks, what I want to do is to get rid of this option.

When I bootup, I get TWO (2) options to boot into, but BOTH say: "Windows XP Media Center Edition" and "Windows XP Media Center Edition" However only the TOP one will allow me to bootup.

I set CD-Rom as boot option but when PC reboots it do not start formatting irrespective of presence or absence of CD in CD-Rom. Similar thing also happened when I set this option for Floppy Drive. How Can I resolve this problem.

I recently upgraded my laptop from XP Home to XP Pro. But, I absent-mindedly started to install by booting from the CD like I was doing a fresh install/reformat rather than doing it from inside the OS to do an upgrade. I caught myself, however and restarted without the CD and upgraded Windows from inside Windows. It worked, but now when I boot my computer, it gives me two options to choose from: "Windows XP Home Edition" or "Windows XP Professional Setup." When I pick the Home option, the computer boots up fine and goes to Windows.
However, when I go to Start>Control Panel>System, it shows that I have XP Pro even though I chose the XP Home option at boot. If I choose the XP Pro Setup option, it asks for the SP2 CD, even though the OS is bundled with SP2 on the same CD. I hit Enter, and it keeps asking for the SP2 CD even though the CD is in there. I tried to go to the Disk Management screen and delete the XP Pro Setup partition (which was only 1Gb), but that didn't work. So, I figured that boot.ini was still confused as to what to boot to.
