So when I boot my PC, I am asked to choose between booting up XP Home and XP Pro. The OS I want is XP Pro, and when I choose it, everything works perfectly. I would just like to know how to remove the XP Home option from the startup prompt.

Of course it can't boot to it any more, but I don't want to see in the menu at startup. What files are left over from that OS instance that I need to remove?

It asked wether i wanted to boot "windows xp home edition" or "windows xp setup" How do i get rid of this "windows xp setup" boot option?
When I boot WinXP it goes to the screen that asks you to select which use to log in as. I am the only user on my PC. Is there a way to get rid of that so Windows will just boot up automatically?

XP1 was installed first and contains the boot files (NTLDR, boot.ini...) and XP2 came second. Now, I would like to keep XP2 and get rid of XP1. How can i delete XP1 since it contains the boot files? if i delete XP1 i am afraid to not be able to boot on XP2.

I had a need for the Win98SE side of things then, but now that has gone but the Win98SE partition is the boot of course.I want to be able to do away with the Win98SE partition completely and ideally add the space to the Win2K one, maybe leave it as a clean NTFS partition if that makes things easier. This would mean that I would end up with a drive with a single boot partition holding Win2K. This of course is not a trivial process as the drive letter of the boot partition will need to change. (I do want that drive letter change incidentally).
View 2 Replies View Relatedfirst i get the HP blue screen. I tried F1, but i dont see my hard drive in the boot menu. I followed some steps in Hp's web site- took the cpu apart and unplugged both hard drives from the motherboard, plugged them back in. when i restarted ,i got the HP screen and then windows started to load up. After a few seconds the HP screen came back up and then the black screen: sk boot failure, insert system disk and press enter. I also noticed that pressing F10 for system recovery does nothing.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI have had this weird problem that seems random (i know computers arent really random but I cant figure out the cause). I have Win7 and WinXp in a dual boot working fine then after like a week of everything being fine my XP will not boot. I get to the Boot Manager and select XP and the screen just goes black and the system reboots back to the Boot Manager. I am having trouble finding the exact problem because I dont know win booting very well. I am assuming the MBR is fine because it gets to the Boot Manager fine. So I figure it is something with the WinXP partition. Win7 boots perfect. I have tried resetting up the boot with Easy BCD 2.0 beta (way better than 1.x) with no success.
This is not the first time this has happened, I end up having to either install XP fresh or do a repair install. I made a Acronis True Image backup and when everything was working then restored it with no success. I am getting really sick of this happening though because this is like the 6th time this has happened. The XP install is only used to game so it is bare minimum programs. I would appreciate any help in finding the route of the problem so that I can fix it instead of reinstalling the OS.
i have an asus p5nsli, i cant see windows xp because of a new acer display driver that doesnt work, apparently. on bootup, when i press F8, i only get the options to boot from floppy, hd, or cd-drives....how can i get to safe mode? pressing delete gives me the bios, i've tried every key on the board.

I have since deicded to use the Vista hard drive for data storage and have removed it from my desktop.However,whenever I boot up my desktop, my computer still goes to the black windows uploader screen and askes me to choose and "Earlier version of windows" (the XP) or my non-existant Vista.

I can't even right click on it and hit delete because it's not there, nor can I just hit delete. How can it be removed manually. It is a "share-to-web upload folder" from a hp digital camera. I aslo don't have access to the cd to reinstall it and uninstall again. Also I can't get task manager to work, I hit Ctrl, Alt, Delete and nothing. I right click on the task bar and click on task manager and nothing. Iwas working a few days ago, don't know what happened, anyway to get it back? They called Dell and were told to take it to a technician, which I am not, and they cannot afford it.When turned on it showed the Dell logo and then asked for a password which they had no idea what it was. It would not do anything at all. After doing a lot of reading on this forum and others I decided to remove the password by changing the jumper on the motherboard that said ctr password for,30 seconds, and then putting it back in place and start the computer again.It then booted to a screen that said " We appologize for the inconvenience but windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware or software change might have caused this. After some more explaining of possible causes it had the options of starting in, Safe Mode, Safe Mode with Command Prompt, Safe Mode with Networking, Last known good configeration, Start Windows normally. Use the up and down arrows to highlight your choice.When I do highlight any one of the choices and hit enter the computer stops responding at all.
I can now get in and check the system info etc. It showed no password. It also shows no cdrom installed and it has a cdrom and dvd. It only shows the hard drive and floppy drive. The hard drive is a Segate Barracuda 7200.7 80 Gbytes.I ran the diagnostics that are on the computer and everything checked out except the Read Test on the hard drive. It said IDE Disk Error Code 0F00.0244 Msg Block 77765935. Uncorrectable data error or media is write protected.I then tried to run a virus check from Fix-It Utilities on floppy. After the second disc it stopped and said it was unable to read drive c to restore boot area.Did I do something to the hard drive by removing the password and is there any way to check the hard drive for a virus? I don't understand why Dell told them to take it to a tech.
I have a dual boot system setup. One each on it's own partition. I would like to delete 1 so it will free up the hard drive space for the other. How do I go about doing this. One OS is server 2000 and the other is server 2003.

If just after making the switch on, I press F2 key to check the boot device preference
If just after making the switch on , I press f11 key to reach the boot menu I always find the 1.44 MB Floppy option highlighted as the booting choice.(though there had not been any floppy in the floppy drive, I dont have any really)I make the hard disk option highlighted & it solves the problem only a few times. But next time when I try F11 key to check the boot menu again I find 1.44 MB floppy highlighted.
I recently set up a dual boot system with XP Pro SP2 and x64 on one HDD. Now the boot menu shows x64 as the default Os. How can I switch the menu to default into SP2, instead?
