I have a number of hidden files which I have forwarded to MY Documents and my Pictures.I want to delete my hidden files but keep the ones I forwarded. What worries me is if i delete hidden ones will the others also be deleted.I was wondering if i changed the names of the ones i want to keep or will they be safe anyway
So at the first "Hidden Files not showing" thread, I did download the file that devil_himself provided, and it worked for a little while, but now they are back to not showing. Devil, you asked me to start my own thread.
I have a system with OS XP professional recently i am facing a problem, the problem is when i am trying to view hidden files and folders its not showing. As we go to Tools - Folder Options - Show Hidden Files and Folders when i click on the option show hidden files and folders desktop is getting refreshed but not showing the hidden files and folders.
No matter what I do, when I change the properties of a single directory to either show or not show hidden files and folders, that property then changes in every single directory on the whole drive. I do not click on "Apply to All Folders", I just go to the directory of interest and change the button in Folder Options>View and press "OK". Is there a trick here? Basically I want some folders to show hidden folders, and others to not show them. Right now it's either all or nothing! Again, I am NOT pressing apply to all, which I know will apply all view settings to every folder.
I was scanning my computer using spyware sweeper and i saw it scanning all these files that i hadn't put on my computer so i saw where that file was which was C://documentsandsettings/admin/Complete, so i got all the way to admin but there was no Complete folder! so i clicked show hidden files but it still wasnt there! i think its taking alot of my memory.
I have several unwanted items in my favourites list, both URLs and folders with URLs in them. I cannot right click on them (to delete) and they do not appear in the 'organize favourites' box. Just the favourites that I have added are there.
Just installed RegistryBooster and scanned OK. When computer restarted a RegistryBooster dialogue box appears offering to scan and I want to get rid of it, but can't as there is no apparent way to do so. So can anyone please tell me how to remove it?
i had to reformat my computer and when i was reinstalling my programs suddenly my hidden files where not hidden anymore if i clicked properties it said hidden but they just appear translucent.

This is prob an oldie you get sick of answering, but I've tried to use my windows xp discs to reformat my sony laptop to get rid of everything. The problem is things like Norton antivirus and other programs stay on there. How can I get rid of everythingand start from scratch?
Recently my father-in-law installed a program on to my computer. It set up a desktop icon, that did not get removed when it was uninstalled. I can't even right click on it and hit delete because it's not there, nor can I just hit delete. How can it be removed manually. It is a "share-to-web upload folder" from a hp digital camera. I aslo don't have access to the cd to reinstall it and uninstall again. Also I can't get task manager to work, I hit Ctrl, Alt, Delete and nothing. I right click on the task bar and click on task manager and nothing. Iwas working a few days ago, don't know what happened, anyway to get it back? I already tried system restore but only goes back a few days.
My computer (H.P. Pavilion ze 4900 laptop) is running ver-r-r-ry slow.I have: Defragged, Cleaned up my cookies, Uninstalled unneeded programs, Restored the system to a date prior to the occurrence of the slow running speed,Restarted the computer.I have not: Done a disc clean-up (because I have been given conflicting counsel [re: the safety of doing a disc clean-up] by folks who know more about computers than I do.)
Shut down programs running in the back ground(Although I have lots of programs running in the back ground,I have not shut any of those things down because 1)I dont know how to discriminate between what should and what should not be shut down and 2)I dont how to shut those programs down.)Done a virus sweep or a spy-ware sweep (because those operations take a long time even when the computer is running at normal speed
few programs began showing up in the System Tray that I didn't want to open.I went to msconfig/General and checked Selective Startup without knowing whether or not I needed to.Then, I went to Startup and deselected those programs. That worked for a while till I went back to misconfig and checked for Normal Startup Since the unwanted programs appeared again in my System Tray, I unchecked them in Normal Startup mode. But when I boot up my computer, I find that I am still in Selective Startup even though I checked for Normal.
How do you remove a hidden "StartUp program", like the one shown below? I need to remove it from my system. WinPatrol doesn't even detect it, so I can't remove that hidden program/file with WinPatrol. Is there a program that is made to detect hidden files like this (see below): I believe the program is actually part of the .NET Framework 2.0 (Service pack 1), which was installed on my computer, yesterday. I want to remove it & all of it's components if one of it's components is the exact same file I'm having trouble finding & removing from my list of StartUp programs. Is there a safe program that can detect & remove .NET Frameworks & other "hard to remove" files?
So when I boot my PC, I am asked to choose between booting up XP Home and XP Pro. The OS I want is XP Pro, and when I choose it, everything works perfectly. I would just like to know how to remove the XP Home option from the startup prompt.

I am using Windows XP, Sv. Pk.2. on a 3 year old Dell desktop. I recently had to do a complete uninstall and reinstall. I backed up everything on an Iomega external hard drive using Acronis True Image software. Everything worked fine and I have all my files back, except for my email address books (7 Of them) and my saved email folders (about 20 of them). I use Thunderbird for my email. The email data are all in my hard drive but are in hidden files. I can locate them but cannot figure out how to open them and read them - and neither can I import them. Here is an example for just one file: abook.mab C:Documents and SettingsWilliamApplication DataThunderbirdProfiles|zvcjz11s.default All files are "Read" files and this is the message I get when I click on "Read" : Adobe Reader could not open 'abook.mab'

I am using windows xp pro, now when I go to my computer- tools-folder option and try to select the option show all files and also uncheck the option below it that is show system files and folders still I could not see my hidden files and folders, is there any other thing that can be done to see hidden files and folders.
I had my PC (athlon 2300, winXP sp2) set so I could see hidden files, just so I could know what was going on in my hard drive. As of yesterday I can't, and re-setting the see hidden files option doesn't work anymore. Last major change I made was uninstalling Norton SystemWorks, a.k.a. ResourceHog, which was giving me a huge headache, and have been using Activescan and Kaspersky online scanners and CureIt free antivirus.
