Boot Menu Options: Black Screen With Options?

Jul 12, 2005

I have a computer that I formatted the hard drive on. Then installed Windows XP Pro. When it boots up, it goes to a black screen and has Windows XP Pro and Windows XP listed with the Win XP Pro selected and boots to it in 15 seconds or so if nothing is selected. I have read somewhere about this before and have NO clue where I read it, but does anyone know how to get rid of the option (Win XP) that really doesn't even exist on the hard drive?

System Wont Boot Normally - Fine In Safe Mode

Dec 14, 2006

Well, Ive tried reinstalling XP 3 times. This third time, after a clean installation, I realized that Safe Mode works fine after 500 errors are thrown at me. That is what I am in right now: Windows XP Safe Mode with Networking. First off, after I see the Windows XP Professional loading screen, my screen freezes into a God awful mess. So when I restart, I go into Safe Mode, it gives me a bazillion(which is a real word in FireFox 2.0's dictionary) errors that look like so

Computer Wont Boot Up - Hard Drive Seems Running Fine

Nov 22, 2006

I went home at lunch time and went to use my computer. The screen saver was on but not moving. I moved the mouse, still did nothing.I had to turn the computer off with the powerbutton. It is a HP Pavilion A1310N
I turned it back on and it gets to the HP Blue Screen. About 3 seconds after startup.Does nothing else.
When I turn the comptuer on i see the 3 lights on the Keyboard but then goes away. And any option at this screen like the F2 F10 or the ESC do not work.Sounds like the Harddrive is running fine. But just sits on that screen.Reboot and same thing.I did reseat the SATA and power cables on the Drive just to make sure.

Will Not Boot Harddrive Without Boot Flop - Hidden Partition Corrupted

Aug 26, 2005

I cloned a hard drive which had Windows XP on it (the hard drive was going
out) and the new hard drive would not boot unless I booted first to a floippy with boot.ini, ntldr, and ntdetect.com. Have tried recovery console and everything else I can think of, but the system WILL NOT boot to the hard drive. I checked the boot.ini file for improper boot, but everything looks The old hard drive had two partitions on it, but the hidden partition was corrupt so I deleted it. I changed the boot.ini file settings accordingly.

Computer Wont Boot To Any Of The Xp Boot Options?

Nov 6, 2006

When i booted up my pc to put some coursework on a usb stick, it failed to boot to xp. It went to the "xp was not shutdown properly, boot to safe mode, or last known working settings screen, ETC". None of the options work, i have tried all of them, safe mode and last known working settings included. When i select one of the options, the hardrive spins up, and then my gfx card bios info and mobo splash screen come on. Well, i think it might be because i ran a 'virus remover' for the game gmod, this was the first time the computer had been booted since i ran it.

Did Not Boot Properly - MBR Corrupted?

Feb 6, 2008

how would you determine if you're MBR is corrupted? Here is the situation: The user boots up his Windows XP Pro SP2 machine, it does the normal POST and gets to the splash screen, however, it seems after that it will display a standard "Microsoft Apologizes but Windows did not boot properly... please select from one of the options..."

When this comes up, we attempt to launch windows into Safe Mode. It runs displays the some messages (more on the lines of what seems to be in the autoexec.bat file) but suddenly the PC reboots. It does the POST again and then the splash screen then bam same message as above. So we try the Last Known Good Configuration option but it does the same thing. Reboots the PC and gets to that screen.

Missing Or Corrupted Boot File

Oct 29, 2006

My computer is a Dell Inspiron 6000 running Microsoft XP Home. My machine did not ship with a XP Home setup CD so I cannot follow the windows prompt. I have heard about dell system restore CDs, however I'm not sure if one came with my machine, and if so where it is. If this is what I need can an ISO be downloaded anywhere online? I do know that there is some type of partition on my HD, however I'm not sure exactly what it consists of or how to find out.In case anyone asks, I cannot boot windows in safe mode. If possible I would like to try to repair this problem without a complete reformat and reinstall as my data is only partially backed up. Additionally I have considered the possibility that this issue is the result of a HD crash, however I am not sure how I would go about testing this. Lastly if a reformat and re-install is necessary is there anyway to backup "My Documents" without starting windows?

Will Not Boot / Hard Drive Corrupted?

Suddenly yesterday, my laptop would not boot into Windows.. runs windows xp normally. It would also not boot into safe mode.I took the hard drive out and took it to a colleagues office to get the data off with an external hd connector. He advised that my partition table had been damaged, and the data was not accessible via normal means.Wants to charge $150.00 to get the data off. At this stage, I am wanting to make sure I get my data back, so I authorized this but I am wondering, if anyone can speak to what might have caused this to happen.I do not remember installing any programs or doing anything subject prior to this occurring..

Remove Other Boot Options For XP?

May 13, 2005

Right now when I boot my screen I have like 4 different options for what OS I want. There Windows XP (which I usually click), a Skeleton Boot (some boot screen program I was screwing with), another Windows XP (haven't used it, maybe a previous installation?), and some other windows option that my computer first came with.

Anyways, I know that I only use the first one so is there a way to eliminate the other 3 from the menu? Ideally I would like to not even see the menu when I boot the computer, I'd like it to just go through to windows. I thought I remembered seeing a control panel or some settings for that area somewhere but I can't remember where.

Set Up File I386/kdcom Dll Is Corrupted And Computer Wont Boot

Apr 21, 2010

I recently downloaded SP3 and I didn't have SP1a so I had to get installed that first in order to installed SP3 over it. Since then I am experiencing this problem with the above thread i386/kdcom.dll file is corrupted when I try to set up with booting with Windows XP professional CD and I do not have floppy drive to boot it with set up or repair floppies of NT operating system. Actually this problem happened due to ADOBE updates every now and then pops up to install when I do it says failed to install with reason "either your computer is running in Safe mode or windows setup is corrupted and tells me to reset it but it won't let me set it up or boot the disc.

I already have checked the CMOS bios and the prime master is the hard disc and secondary master is the CD ROM. Otherwise my PC is running fine with proper speed Also it won't let me uninstall my older version of ADOBE 9.2 program from AD REMOVE list. Please tell me what to do. The error code it gives me while trying to boot is 4096 also says INF file txtsetup.sif is corrupted.

Boot From Second Hard Drive - Available Options Were Off

Nov 28, 2006

I have two HDs installed on my comp. The master (C drive) is running WinXP home edition. The slave (E drive) was taken from my old comp which ran under Win ME (which should still be installed on it). I need to boot up with ME as a "work around" to print some files using a RIP program that is not supported by XP.Is it possible to boot from the slave HD? I looked under the setup options accessed by hitting f12 key during start up, and the "E" drive did not show up on the list of drives. Floppy, Cd drives, and a USB external drive did show up. I also tried looking under a menu accessed by hitting the f2 key...and a second hard drive showed up in that menu, but the options I had available were "off" (the setting I found it set at) or "auto", I changed it to "auto" and tried to reboot but it said "no loader_"
