Professional Freezes During Boot Screen - Boot Fine Safe Mode
Jul 25, 2008
Recently I was playing a game when my computer froze up, when I restarted it, it froze every time on the Windows XP bootscreen. It boots fine in Safe mode with networking. (I'm typing this post on this computer)
Well, Ive tried reinstalling XP 3 times. This third time, after a clean installation, I realized that Safe Mode works fine after 500 errors are thrown at me. That is what I am in right now: Windows XP Safe Mode with Networking. First off, after I see the Windows XP Professional loading screen, my screen freezes into a God awful mess. So when I restart, I go into Safe Mode, it gives me a bazillion(which is a real word in FireFox 2.0's dictionary) errors that look like so
I had a virus or something redirecting my internet browsers. I was able to install malwarebytes while in safe mode and get my browser back. Now I cannot boot unless I am in safe mode. I attempt to log on as the owner, sometimes I can enter apassword, other times not, then my pc freezes and doesn't go any further. Any ideas??? What other info might any prospective help need? I have xp home edition
I have a Windows XP Professional Edition and i incurred a spyware virus on my PC, so i made a dumb decision by running MSCONFIG and changing my SAFEBOOT option, I did this because previously I couldn't even get into Safe Mode, it would load the files on the screen.
Recently, I accidentally clicked on a few bad google links. Soon after, my computer started acting weirdly. I started receiving windows notices saying that my computer was infected with spyware. I could tell that these were fake and started scanning my computer with avast anti-virus. It was acting weirdly and then I saw that a window popped up called "vista anti-virus" i then googled this and found that this was a fake anti-virus that would install more viruses on my computer. So, I panicked and manually shut down my computer with the power button and booted into safe mode.
i have windows home xp edtion on parkard bell.in safe mode it is fine, but when on normal bootup mode it will hang up after 2mins aprox(then restart saying crit error, check hardware etc and being to dump files kernel),on a blue screen.
. I have a two year old dell dimension e310 desktop computer that has 'never' had a problem...until last night. After installing a game online for my son (from gametap) the game was running very slow and then just froze on the screen. I tried every way to shut the game off...couldn't...it was just stuck. I tried ctl-alt-delete expecting the task manager to appear....nothing... At that point I resorted to just shutting off the main switch. When I turned it back on a couple of minutes later it tried to start normally...then a blue screen comes up that says a 'problem has been detected and windows has been forced to shut down....etc'.. It read it and it instructed me to press f 8 and try to start in 'safe mode'
In trying to get rid of some adware, I attempted to boot my computer (P4 2.8 GHz, 1.5 GB Ram, Windows XP SP2) in safe mode. When I selected "Safe Mode with Networking", I was brought to a blue screen called a "STOP ERROR SCREEN" - basically it said that it had to stop the booting up of the computer or the computer might be harmed. It suggested removing any recently installed hardware and disabling BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. So I rebooted and got into windows normally just fine.
Then I decided to try just regular Safe Mode (without networking) - when I selected that option, the computer started to do it, then rebooted and prompted me if I wanted to boot into Windows normally or safe mode, etc...I tried Safe Mode again - same thing, a reboot. I tried Safe Mode with Networking again - and I got the blue Stop Error Screen again.
This is pretty strange (at least I've never seen it) and I'd really like to be able to boot into safe mode.
I am having trouble booting up my laptop. It goes to the "windows" screen the a blue screen flashes for just a second and the only thing I can read is "a problem has occured" because of the short duration the screen is up...there is a lot more words on there but I don't have time to read it all. Then it goes to the option screen to restart or start in safe mode...which is what I'm in at this time.
My computer has been acting screwy. While i have been playing a game my screen would freeze and black out, or just suddently black out.so i would have to shut it off through the back switch. this was happening for about a week. This problem happened again last night only this time it wont let me boot back into windows. it will boot up to the windows logo loading screen and restart, after this restart it will tell me windows did not boot properly and ask to continue with safe mode with networking, and console.(still rebooted with all choices) and windows normaly (rebooted) and windows with last safest configuration (still rebooted). occasionaly it will get to scandisk, after the scandisk it will lock up or reboot, if it gets passed scandisk without rebooting it gives me a blue screen
I first noticed a problem when a command prompt window popped up during startup.1.exe. After some searching I discovered it was a trojan located on c root directory. I decided to try and scan to remove it. I used Adaware and AVG free and didnt get it. (only found a few low risk tracking cookies) I then tried SpyBot but during the update process it decided it needed to install the new version so it went ahead and did this then informed me i needed to reboot. I selected not to right away. I scanned with System Mechanic to remove junk and obsolete files and got rid of them all. I then did a registry scan and deleted everything system mechanic found.
I then deleted the installation .exes and shortcuts that had been added to my desktop by Adaware and Spy bot.I also have zone alarm running all the time. When i came to restart my pc, it passes the windows XP main screen but then freezes on the Acer brand screen. It also will not boot into safe mode. I just get the normal safe mode screen but with the operating system details printed across the top and no start menu/input options etc.Ive removed and reseated the RAM and the battery.Im really stuck as to what to try next! Its an Acer Aspire laptop about 2 years old.Ive done something to kill it but nothing massively different to what i have done in the past.Im fairly good with these things but im feeling a little lost for ideas!
I cannot boot my XP machine. In safe mode it also says safe mode in white text in each corner and shows windows build details at the top. I have trying going back to previous good config - same problem. A normal boot just leads to a black screen with a movable mouse arrow - no sign of a login screen. I have tried a recovery reinstall from a an XP pro CD from another computer - this took about 40 minutes and went through all the steps normally (with normal graphics displayed duting the reinstall) but after finishing the same problem is still there.
Only now the windows build info in sfae mode reports SP1 (originally didi not as the computer was supplied with XP before SP1) I am at a loss to know what to do to get the machine wordking without a refomat of the hard disk, whcih will destroy all my data, and my partners stuff too - mostly not backed up, as usual.
I had been away from my computer for about an hour and when i returned the screen was black and nothing would change it so hit the restart button. When the computer started up, I first saw the usual blue dell logo-screen, however, the next screen was the windows 98 startup logo-screen. The computer then entered DOS mode and at the top of the screen it says Microsoft Windows 98. This problem persists every time i start the computer. I only have 1 primary partion and i installed XP on it from a clean install by using a win98 bootdisk to format and running winnt from the i386 folder of the xp cd. When i try to enter SAFE MODE the computer goes to the Win 98 start-up logo screen again and enters DOS again. I know that all my files are still on the HDD because i can navigate through them. All i really want to do is somehow save some files that are on te HDD so i can just format and reinstall XP.
Powers on to the normal blue screen. Black screen comes up that says We apologize for the inconvience...etc. etc. windows did not shut down normally and gives the option for last know good configeration, start windows normally, safe mode, etc. Tried them all and it just goes back to the normal blue screen and back to We apologize for the inconvience. F10 system recovery does the same thing.I would like to be able to fix this and not lose any of the information I have on my hard drive. I did a total back-up about 7 months ago (13 DVDs worth) and do have some backup through Norton 360
My main pc is stuck in a boot cycle giving me the black screen with options to start in safe mode etc etc and when selecting one of those options it reboots to the same point. When I press return the system tries to start it attempts it, clicks then goes back to boot cycle. The Windows XP system disk won't cut in like it should so I cannot gain control of the pc.
System is a Dell, 2years old and has had various viruses despite having the usual protection. I am currently using my old trusty Advent Pentium 3 for this message (which has never had the same degree of virus prob's curiously). After the first virus Dell talked me through using Ghost - brilliant. Within a couple of days it was hit again and usinng Spybot got rid of the virus but PC kept displaying the message rundll.dll file damaged. So I used XP Recovery seemingly with no problem only to find it won't reboot.
I have a pc with Windows XP with SP2 installed. My computer has generally worked fine with little issues, but the other day Norton flagged up a virus issue. The virus was called Trojan.Patchep!inf, and couldn't be removed using Norton.Naturally, I'd have posted this in the malware removal/HJT forum, but I'm now locked out of my system.I need a way to be able to get into Windows before I can pull off any HJT logs or run any applications. The issue I have, is when Windows is loading up. I turn on my computer, and Windows boots up until the scrollbar/loading page. The computer then automatically reboots, and the cycle continues until I just hold the off button to turn off the computer. I've entered the boot menu and attempted the reboot in Safe Mode, and also tried using last working configuration. This has no effect, and still results in the constant restarting of the system.
I don't have a Windows XP disc as it was pre-installed when I bought the computer. For the time being I can boot from disc using Linux Ubuntu. I read about the virus that infected my system, which suggests that files such as winlogon are affected by the virus, which would explain my problems booting. Would it be possible to repair these files from Ubuntu, allowing me to boot the computer with Windows? I can then start a thread in the malware forum, posting HJT logs etc.
Wanted to run my antivirus in safe mode. F8 at reboot brought up screen with mode choices (safe mode, safe mode with connections, last time Windows functioned normally, etc. I would choose safe mode and after some blipping the files at hyperspeed at the bottom of the screen, etc.), it would come back to that mode-choice screen with a message at the top saying Windows could not boot, may have been cause by a recent change to hardware or software, etc. I could then choose "run Windows normally" and it would boot. Then I tried the msconfig way of going into safe mode, ticking the safe mode box in boot.ini. Now, because that box is ticked, it always tries to start in safe mode, but can't because of the above problem. In short, it loops me back to that mode-choice screen endlessly.
I am using XP. When I try to start my home computer, the main screen freezes and I can't do anything. On several tries the install screen came up, but not every time. The hour glass comes up and just stays there. Control/Alt/Delete doesn't do anything. I have to manually turn off the computer. I started it in the safe mode and ran Norton and anti spyware programs. They detected nothing. I can't go on AOL or explorer, even in the safe mode. I have a firewall and anti virus is up to date.
I push the power button on the modem and it's fine... right after the screen does the Windows XP with the loading bar at the bottom screen it turns black and I even left it on for like 10 minutes and it still wont work. I also tried to start windows in SAFE MODE and LAST GOOD CONFIGURATION plus many others, but it wont work. I still have valuable information in the computer so,
I have an ASUS M2A-VM motherboard (64-bit) with an AMD dual-core 64-bit CPU. The system boots and works fine when I use a HD loaded with XP64, but it won't boot when I use a HD loaded with the 32-bit version of XP Pro. It just loops through the BIOS banner screen and goes to the Windows screen that let's me boot into Safe mode. None of the boot options there will work--it just loops back through the POST. How can I get it to boot using the 32-bit version of Windows XP Pro?
I went into MSCONFIG and checked the box to go into safe mode so i could run some virus scans and adware scans and stuff like that. Now when it gets to the desktop it has the window that says Loading Windows and then after like 2-3 min. it says password is incorrect and that i should retype it and becarefull of caps lock and stuff like that. The thing is don't have a password. It does this when i boot normally too but it lets me hit ok and hit Cancel without a password entered.
All of a sudden it tries logging me in automatically when I start up but the thing is i dont need to log in. So I try to go back into normal mode and Ican't. I hit F8 during startup and went to the Boot Normally option but it still does to safe mode. What do I do? How do I log on or how do I get rid of this password thing? One more thing, the window that tells me the password is wrong has an OK box but theres no mouse on the screen for me to click it and I can't use the keyboard to select it.
I have a dual boot linux/xp system.I was looking at partitions - just listing them - in linux, and now win xp won't come up in normal mode. It will come up in safe mode, however. Can you help me get my "normal mode" back? When the horizontal moving bar comes up in normal mode, it just goes on forever. I see the disk light go on for about 8 cycles of the bar. It usually runs 11 cycles before giving me the user selection screen. Now the disk light goes out after cycle 8, and the bar keeps going. I waited 32 cycles before giving up.
My computer worked fine yesterday but started to keep restarting every time my computer was done loading the desktop. I went on Event Viewer and found errors like this:The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load
Is there any other way to boot in safe mode than F8? Windows XP is not loading properly. It is going to my background with the cursor, but nothing else. I tired to run msconfig from the task manager, but it didn't open. I want to boot in safe mode to do a system restore, but when I restart the computer, the F8 option says "to enable system configuration."
When I hit the F8 key, my Windows XP Pro OS takes me to the boot menu screen. I click on Safe Mode, and it scrolls with all the script, briefly, and then kicks into regular boot mode! Normally, with Safe Mode, it scrolls with the funny looking script, stays still for a few moments, and then goes into Safe Mode (after a prompt).
I was playing a video game when all of a sudden the graphics messed up, i could still hear the audio but the graphics were all messed up. About 30 seconds after this began it froze, about a minute later the blue screen of death came on with the error message 0x0000007E.When i restart my computer, the first screen is the Asus m424 MB start up screen and it lets me press delete to go into bios. If i dont go into bios, the next screen is just a black screen. It permenately stays this way. In Bios i can see the SATA hdd and all its specs, i can see the memory. My mother board does not have an onboard video slot, so since i can still see the bios with the monitor plugged in through the Video card, does this mean the Video card is still good? I think its either the mother board or the video that has been fried. Everything looks to be fine. I also tried booting from the XP disc and repairing windows, it did not work. I can also not boot up in any Safe mode at all. This includes VGA Mode, and all the Safe Modes. I get like 10 lines of .sys,
Last night while using my laptop, The screen just went black and wouldn't come back. So booted the computer, and then while booting it had weird green lines up and down the normal windows loading screen. and then when it should have booted up it just went to a weird white screen. I turned it off, tooke the battery out and let it be for awhile, and then when I went back it worked fine, until once again the screen went black. Today it won't start up without safe mode (im on it right now). I ran Spybot, Avast, Malware Bytes, bazooka and it still won't boot.Comp is a Dell Inspiron 9400, 2 GB ram, Geforce Vid card, Windows XP Pro. It was formatted a few months ago, and was running fine before this happed.
I was wondering if anyone here has come across this type of error before. My sisters laptop (Fujitsu Siemens) running on XP was working fine without any malware etc, then one morning she went to switch it on, and it would not boot up into windows xp. The screen switches on and displays the fujitsu siemens logo, then becomes unresponsive. I have tried adjusting most parameters and booting in safe mode. However I have not had any success with this.
When booting in safe mode, I receive the following error code: muti(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)WINDOWSsystem32 toskrnl.exe muti(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)WINDOWSsystem32hal.dll muti(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)WINDOWSsystem32KDCOM.DLL...
I notice that BOOTVID and Drivers are both mentioned in these errors, so i am sure this is what is preventing XP from starting. The obvious thing to do would be to reboot windows from scratch, but the problem is, XP came preinstalled on the laptop, and therefore, I have no access to files necessary for a reboot. Would anyone know if this computer beyond repair, or is it possible to restore windows in some way?
i cannot boot into safe mode i go through the motions tapping f8 than it goes as far as it lets me select what option i want. i tried safe mode only and safe mode with networking and than it goes to the screen that has all the words across it and than sometimes it boots right into normal mode or it sometimes goes as far as getting into safe mode with the two signin icons on desktop my name and admin which is me too and when i click on either of them it boots right into normal mode.
