I'm running a 3 year old version of XP pro and it has gotten progressively slower booting up. Seems like about two to three minutes or so ( I should time it). I've run msconfig and there doesn't seem to be anything too obvious and I don't want to screw with things I'm not sure of as well. Also, when launching Outlook Express ,any browser and Word are really slow also. Excel is fine. Seems really odd. I've run antivirus, antispyware, defrag all to no avail
After searching some searching, I am unable to find threads that will assist me with this. But i would really appreciate some direction on how to "unclog" my laptop. Windows XP Pro, 1gb Ram, 80 Gb hardrive (maybe the size is the prob?), Adaware CCleaner, AVG Free. AVG Spyware, Zonealarm.
I have an HP A1750Y Desktop. Specs are ASUS P5LP-LE MoBo, 2GB Ram, Pentium D 820 2.8 Ghz processor. I bought this computer with Windows Vista installed, and have been running it that way for the last few years. Boot-up has always been extremely slow, even from the day it was new, and it had gotten worse to the point that it would take about 15-20 minutes to boot. The Bios screen itself would be on for a long time, and then after the Vista Desktop would load, it would still be an additional 5 minutes until icons or the start bar would load.
To my surprise, the boot times were not improved at all! The computer itself works well and has good speed after finally booting up, but it takes about 15-20 minutes from power on, until you can use the OS. I did the install with a brand new HDD, so a HDD problem is not the culprit.
Recently I was attempting to run a legit version of Splinter Cell, Double Agent on my PC. It indicated that my RAM was low and one other thing which I don't remember but it was also below spec. Anyway, I thought I would run it anyway, just to have a look even if it had a few issues with performance. Well, it crashed hard and froze my PC. I had to do a hard boot and ever since then if I have to reboot, my pc shuts down just fine but the boot up takes approx 90 minutes. I have run Adaware, Windows Defender & a full virus scan. I have also run RegistryFix to correct the registry, all to no avail
Boot up was extemely slow and would not allow internet (dsl) connection. I have fixed that by using the wireless card instead as I believe a driver is gone. I now no why she didn't want it anymore. When I ran spybot it came up with 37 items for removal. I have also run AD-Aware which continues to find some trojan viruses. I also have Avast running. I have reached the the extent of my tech abilityand although it seems to run better I still believe it is infected.
I am using Windows XP Home Edition. When booting up, Windows goes directely to loading files and takes at least 20 minutes before the sign in screen appears. Do you have a answer to solve this problem?
I hope somebody can help me, although I suspect the PC has breathed it's last. On starting up, it hangs and won't go any further. I get the system information screen, then it just stops and the light doesn't flicker at all. I don't get any beeps either which I suspect is not a good sign. Does anybody have any suggestions for what I might do next? The PC is running (or not as the case may be) Windows
My pc was working just fine a few days ago then last night i go on it was just dragging.Everything was loading slow despite the fact i have even firefox was loading slow which it never does.Anyway i asked my sister who was the last one on if she clicked on anything but no surprise the reply was I didn't do anything so i guess it was a ghost .I ran NAV but nothing found then again NAV doesn't seem to find anything
I have windows XP and saving a document to or opening a file (like a picture) from the windows Desktop is extremely slow. Opening or saving to another folder is lightning quick.
Anyhow, on my second laptop, my roommate borrowed it and of course has no idea what she could've possibly ever done. She's probably a lil' too dense to realize if she download or got some kind of virus using it. And, of course, she didn't bother telling me right away so when I went to start up the laptop one day, it was going extremely slow.It took about 10 minutes for the laptop to boot to the windows login screen. Any mouse movement whether on the mousepad or when I hook up my USB mouse takes about 1 minute to register any movement. I haven't even been able to get to the main desktop screen. (I'm trying as I type.. but, judging by the length of how long it took the other stuff, I could be in for a long wait.) Even when I typed in the password it took about 5 minutes for it to seemingly type out.. but the "dots" cut off so I have no idea if it actually will go through or not or if I will get the "incorrect password" error message.
I have a demension 8400 with windows xp pro media center. It has a 3 ghz processor 160gb hard drive. I have it on a wireless setup. I don't know much about the inside of a computer so I need help. It is extremely slow to open 1/2 hour or so and even more so to get into any program or internet. Yesterday I checked everything I could check and somehow or another I found a screen that had appeared stating errors and saying something about images not being able to open.
I have a Dell Dimension 300 desktop, Windows XP Home, 5.1.2600 svc pk 3, Intel 279 Mhz, 512 MB memory, using IE6 sp3. It has been starting and shutting down extremely slow. When I go on the internet, it's been slow. Last night I installed IE8, and the problem got worse. It was even slower. So I did a System Restore just now, and it seems just as slow as after installing IE8, but now I'm back to IE6
I am having problems ripping with WMA to my hard drive for storing music files in MP3. It is a Dell running XP home. Sometimes the CD rips like nobodys business, but other times its like a snail pace, almost 2 X longer to rip than it takes to play. Is this disc, machine or software or operator?
I have run Norton, Adaware and spybot. They ocassionally find tracking cookies, but nothing that looks too bad to me. One thing I did notice is that, with no programs running, I'm using 260Mb of memory.
Here is the log file:

Extremely slow when installed XP. It also lists many boxes across the top in the blue part instead of listing the site, place and Windows Internet Explorer. It also lists boxes in the tabs at the bottom and before anything pops up after you click on a site in Explorer it says About Blank in the tabs. Is this because the RAM in his computer doesn't support this version of Windows?
I have a dell inspiron 700M, intel pentium m, 1.80 ghz, 496 mb ram, xp pro sp2....my computer has been running extremely slow. it takes over a minute and a half to load internet explorer. Attached is my HJT log.

I'm having a big problem with my computer.I've run out of ideal and things to do to speed up this computer. The more I do to speed it up the slower it gets. I can't seem to download anything from the internet that my help me with this problem. I can seee the internet but it take so long to go from a page to another that it time out alot. I went threw all the step to speed up this computer twice with no luck. There very little on the hard drive and I still can't get this puppy going. Can any boby help?
My pc is running extremely slow and is more often than enough running a 100%. This means I can only do one thing at a time i.e. If I am playing the media player I can't look at the internet.
I had some virusses that was cleaned and I used Malware anti malwarebytes , super antispyware and spybot to clean the system from any other software. I used registry mechanic to clean the registry and cleanup to get rid of all the rubbish files. When I start the pc it is still extremely slow. It takes about 5 minutes to boot. When I use a program for the first time after a reboot it opens slowly but after that it flies.
Computer booted into windows XP nice and fast as per usual, and i played some Battlefield 2142 after checking some messages/emails. Later i played some Crysis to find i had to mess around with updating punkbuster in order to get it to work. Failing that i looked around the internet with Firefox and then contacted punkbuster for help and went back to play BF2142 again. But! The map took absolutely ages just to get halfway. So i assumed Crysis had eaten up enough resources to make everything else sluggish. So i rebooted, only to discover i couldn't boot into XP! It just hung there with the little loading bar animation for what seemed like an indefinite period of time. I hit the reset button and try to boot in another three times without success. I try booting into my Vista install and have no trouble whatsoever. So i boot into safemode and find everything to be quite slow, but it's hard to gauge the speed of safe mode as most graphics drivers aren't loaded. So anyway i schedule a disk check for when i next boot in.
My Win XP machine has become extremely slow staring up..Almost like a freeze up but will eventually complete the startup sequence. Sometimes takes 10 to 15 minutes.
My PC seems to have started running extremely slow lately. I have ran AVG and C Cleaner and still didnt help any. Don't know why it is so slow. I have DSL and it is running slower than when I had dial up
I used spybot and removed 111 objects, adware 48 and Microsoft Antispyware tool 20 objects. However my computer is still running slow. My hijackthis log is attached please help.

my computer is suddenly running extreemly slow at start up and every pplication/operation takes far more time than is resonable. i have not recently downloaded anything new and i have about half free memory. The only error message i get is the 'windows virtual memory too low'
My computer started slowing dow about a month ago. It got to where it took forever to load when I turned the computer on and even opening software took forever. Same with turning it off. It also hangs up on me. I can't even press Ctrl + Alt+ Delete to end a program when its not responding. I have to strictly turn the computer off just to get somewhere. I uninstalled and reinstalled Norton. I have the entire Norton system and catches nothing. It says all systems are working properly. I was asked earlier if I had ever put a music CD in the computer that was by SONY, and I can say that probably close to 20 over the 4 years that I have had it. I was told that SONY puts this "thing" on the CDs that transfer to your computer before you even hear the music so that you are penalized if you try to duplicate them.
The computer is a Dell Dimension 3000 with 512 MB RAM, and an Iomega Zip Drive attached. For some reason, it is running EXTREMELY slow at times, and need to reboot. I have run Trendmicro, Mcafee, Panda, Microsoft Antispyware, and Adaware but nothing serious seems to come up. I've run Registry Mechanic, Regseeker but it still runs slow at times.
Over the last few months, the Windows Explorer on my laptop has become excruciatingly slow.Simply trying to move to an adjacent directory can take minutes. Related / unrelated - I have seen CPU/memory max out as well - though not always. I have a 1.5 GB of RAM, and have seen this when not heck of a lot is going on. I am unsure if it is a virus issue or is it something that has to do with windows explorer issues, which I have seen a few threads on on the net.
