Computer Infected With Viruses: Boot Up Extremely Slow?

Jan 3, 2005

Boot up was extemely slow and would not allow internet (dsl) connection. I have fixed that by using the wireless card instead as I believe a driver is gone. I now no why she didn't want it anymore. When I ran spybot it came up with 37 items for removal. I have also run AD-Aware which continues to find some trojan viruses. I also have Avast running. I have reached the the extent of my tech abilityand although it seems to run better I still believe it is infected.

Computer Infected Whole Family Of Viruses

Apr 6, 2010

I am servicing computers everyday for both business and home users and the vast amount of computers are infected with this whole family of viruses by names like Personal Security, Window Anti-virus, Antivirus7, Security Guard etc.I see these ransom-ware infections getting past everything from the free Anti-virus programs to the most expensive anti-virus programs, especially with home computers that are use for Entertainment Purposes and always because the users were browsing the Internet and are tricked into clicking on a fake warning of infection or security risk. Once they are tricked into that initial click, life goes downhill rapidly as the infection installs itself and then takes deeper root as the user clicks on subsequent fake screens. If they don't register the fake program, it will proceed to convince them to register by progressively turning off more and more Windows features. My question to the knowledgeable users of this forum is:Does anyone know of an antivirus/spyware program or combination of programs that can catch these infections as they initially try to install from that first ill-fated click while browsing the Internet?I have tried all the Big names to varying degrees of disappointing success.Would registered versions of MalWarebytes or Super AntiSpyware be effective?

EXTREMELY Slow Boot Up

May 14, 2010

I have an HP A1750Y Desktop. Specs are ASUS P5LP-LE MoBo, 2GB Ram, Pentium D 820 2.8 Ghz processor. I bought this computer with Windows Vista installed, and have been running it that way for the last few years. Boot-up has always been extremely slow, even from the day it was new, and it had gotten worse to the point that it would take about 15-20 minutes to boot. The Bios screen itself would be on for a long time, and then after the Vista Desktop would load, it would still be an additional 5 minutes until icons or the start bar would load.

To my surprise, the boot times were not improved at all! The computer itself works well and has good speed after finally booting up, but it takes about 15-20 minutes from power on, until you can use the OS. I did the install with a brand new HDD, so a HDD problem is not the culprit.

Done A Hard Boot - Extremely Slow Boot Up

Nov 29, 2006

Recently I was attempting to run a legit version of Splinter Cell, Double Agent on my PC. It indicated that my RAM was low and one other thing which I don't remember but it was also below spec. Anyway, I thought I would run it anyway, just to have a look even if it had a few issues with performance. Well, it crashed hard and froze my PC. I had to do a hard boot and ever since then if I have to reboot, my pc shuts down just fine but the boot up takes approx 90 minutes. I have run Adaware, Windows Defender & a full virus scan.
I have also run RegistryFix to correct the registry, all to no avail

Extremely Slow Boot - Run Antivirus, Antispyware

Jun 20, 2006

I'm running a 3 year old version of XP pro and it has gotten progressively slower booting up. Seems like about two to three minutes or so ( I should time it). I've run msconfig and there doesn't seem to be anything too obvious and I don't want to screw with things I'm not sure of as well. Also, when launching Outlook Express ,any browser and Word are really slow also. Excel is fine. Seems really odd. I've run antivirus, antispyware, defrag all to no avail

Computer Extremely Slow - Because Of Sony CDs?

Jun 29, 2006

My computer started slowing dow about a month ago. It got to where it took forever to load when I turned the computer on and even opening software took forever. Same with turning it off. It also hangs up on me. I can't even press Ctrl + Alt+ Delete to end a program when its not responding. I have to strictly turn the computer off just to get somewhere. I uninstalled and reinstalled Norton. I have the entire Norton system and catches nothing. It says all systems are working properly.
I was asked earlier if I had ever put a music CD in the computer that was by SONY, and I can say that probably close to 20 over the 4 years that I have had it. I was told that SONY puts this "thing" on the CDs that transfer to your computer before you even hear the music so that you are penalized if you try to duplicate them.

Computer Running Extremely Slow While Rebooting

Jul 26, 2005

my computer has been running abnormally slow, and I don't mean 5-10 seconds for a program to load, more minutes. Once, it took, from turning the computer on, to arriving on desktop a total of 12 minutes, that was without half the stuff even loading by then!

The slow speed usually occurs when rebooting, I left my computer on for serveral days and eventually it worked good as ever.

I'm not sure if it matters, but soon before loading the desktop, there's a weird grinding type noise coming from the computer, this lasts for about 5-6 seconds, and happens several times.

Extremely Slow Computer - CPU Usage Is Quite High

Jul 9, 2009

I have a laptop operating on Windows XP. Recently my computer has become extremely slow. I have gone into task manager and noticed that the CPU usage is quite high, even when there is very little running. At times the system idle will hover in the 90% range, however the CPU usage will also stay in the same range. (As far as I know, if idle is at 90%, than CPU usage should not be higher than 10%). I can't figure out what else is running that is making the CPU usage run so high. I have run various virus and spyware tests and all have come out clean. I have used cc cleaner to clean my registry and even update some of my out of date drivers but the problem has continued.

On turning on my computer, it takes about 2 minutes for Windows XP to start up and no MS audio is heard during the start up phase. Audio is working on other programs, however, such as MS Windows.

Computer Frozen And Gone Extremely Slow During SP3 Update

Nov 22, 2009

I decided to actually run windows updates for once, and I did, it said it was upgrading to windows XP SP3. But then after a while it became extremely slow and I couldn't run anything in the background, the bar was half way through so I left the computer on over night, to find in the morning that the updates were still not finished and the bar was still halfway. The updates were still happening though as different file names like "installing blahblah.dll" were coming up every 10 or so seconds. It's been updating for about 12 hours now and the computers basically frozen and is so slow I can't do anything. I don't want to shut down my computer as I know that's a bad thing to do during windows service pack updates, but what else can I do? This SP update has been going on all night and the bar hasn't moved at all. Should I just shut down/restart the computer and let it restore on startup? It did say at the beginning of the updates that it was backing up my files, and if it didn't I could do system restore. OR, should I just leave my computer on untill it finishes?
