View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been trying to help a friend who has a computer that is horribly infested with virus and malware. My friend had no recovery partition or any type of Windows CD. After downloading and running Spybot and Avira Antivirus the computer began to run much better. Everytime the computer would startup, Avira found a virus called "Winlogin.exe". I tried the "Quarantine" option but it kept popping up. Eventually I just clicked "Rename". Now when starting the computer it loads the Bios and goes to the XP boot screen - and then restarts - over and over and over. I've tried booting in safe mode - same thing.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI am servicing computers everyday for both business and home users and the vast amount of computers are infected with this whole family of viruses by names like Personal Security, Window Anti-virus, Antivirus7, Security Guard etc.I see these ransom-ware infections getting past everything from the free Anti-virus programs to the most expensive anti-virus programs, especially with home computers that are use for Entertainment Purposes and always because the users were browsing the Internet and are tricked into clicking on a fake warning of infection or security risk. Once they are tricked into that initial click, life goes downhill rapidly as the infection installs itself and then takes deeper root as the user clicks on subsequent fake screens. If they don't register the fake program, it will proceed to convince them to register by progressively turning off more and more Windows features. My question to the knowledgeable users of this forum is:Does anyone know of an antivirus/spyware program or combination of programs that can catch these infections as they initially try to install from that first ill-fated click while browsing the Internet?I have tried all the Big names to varying degrees of disappointing success.Would registered versions of MalWarebytes or Super AntiSpyware be effective?

View 3 Replies View RelatedBoot up was extemely slow and would not allow internet (dsl) connection. I have fixed that by using the wireless card instead as I believe a driver is gone. I now no why she didn't want it anymore. When I ran spybot it came up with 37 items for removal. I have also run AD-Aware which continues to find some trojan viruses. I also have Avast running. I have reached the the extent of my tech abilityand although it seems to run better I still believe it is infected.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI believe one of my computers is infected with a virus. I have virus removal software (malwarebytes), however when I try to open the .exe file nothing happens. It seems that my computer can no longer open .exe files and thats a serious problem for me in getting rid of the malware on my machine.
So it seems that I have 2 problems now.
Problem #1. My computer cannot open any .exe files.
Problem #2. My computer is infected with some type of malware

I know McAfee keeps telling me i need to uninstall some Generic PUP.c but i dont know how to do that! ive used ad-aware,mcafee vs,windows defender, cwshredder, and spysweeper, and nothing is helping.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI currently run PC-Cillin anti virus, and have Ad-Aware SE, Spybot - Search & Destroy, and SpywareBlaster to help keep my PC clean. I would like some suggestions on other programs that you might recommend, or if these would suffice to keep my PC clear of viruses, malware, and spyware.I would also like to know if anyone has any information about Registry Mechanic. Specifically if it is worth while in any way, as it was recommended to my by a friend.

View 14 Replies View RelatedAfter uninstalling a number of suspect programs, I ran my anti stuff, AdAware SE, Ewido, Spybot, Ccleaner, AVG, Stinger, CWShredder and Housecall. Got rid of a lot of Trojans & spyware. There is still a suspect, something called DMVLite, cant seem to uninstall this one. Google search only led me to do an HJT log. Not to sure I want to do that.I also tried to uninstall a program called DVD Sentry, but it said the Windows Installer 3.1 was missing.
Maybe most important issue. Ran Belarc, said it is missing 40 critical updates ! There is a Windows Update Shield that says it has a download to install. KB888162,it detects if SP2 is properly installed, it is NOT.Wants me to uninstall SP2. When I go to uninstall, I get all these, cannot copy files. My question is, is it OK to click cancel on these cannot copy, since I cant seem to do anything else anyway.
I picked up some viruses with this dang antivirus xp08. I removed them but I still can't view or open my C & D hard disk.
View 9 Replies View RelatedIt got infected with Windows Police Pro. After disabling that, there are several 'remnants' left over. The only way I can run any spyware/malware removal programs is to install it fresh. The program(s) will open, then it'll shut down 2 seconds into the scan. It even shuts down my registry cleaner as soon as it begins to clean (after it finds all the errors). All these programs simply terminate themselves. It does this in SafeMode as well.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI keep getting message to update virus definition yet each week I run a complete live Norton Virus Update. Try to manually update virus's but it does not work.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a problem that's probably tied to another problem. I opened an e-mail that I shouldn't have and got infected with something. I ran scans from Norton 360 and SuperAntiSpyware and other online scanning sites but I could not locate the malware. I paid a Symantec consultant to remove the infection from my system and he says it is clean. In the meantime, because my computer would randomly shut down and I was afraid that it would not recover, I reformatted my hard drive and re-installed all my programs. My computer does not recognize my video card and I have put in countless drivers to repair it with no success. Although my computer is more responsive and stable I am still plagued with random shutdowns from time to time. It sounds like you would hit the enter key and it would stick and continually click until I get a blue screen.

This is a vexing problem, the security warning currently set as the background is ugly.
