View 9 RepliesMy laptop died and I removed the hard drive.i hooked the hard drive up to my new laptop via a SATA/IDE cable.
I can see the old hard drive in the E drive and it appears that all the contents are there by the size of the hard drive (same as when I had it in the old laptop) but I can only see, actually view, a very small percentage of the drive.
My goal: I want to transfer all old music, word documents and photos from old laptop into new laptop.
for some reason i was under the impression that my work computer had virus protection. well... nope. i had to reload the o/s (windows 2000 pro) after the computer crashed but fortunately i lost none of my data, mostly because i keep it on a thumb drive so i can work on it at home. i now have norton AV on it and got rid of more than 14 viruses or threats, and now i am wondering if anything else was left that wasn't detected. oh, and the computer is a dell optiplex gx150 workstation.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI seem to have three separate Trojan viruses running in my computer! I was
told that I need a new hard drive to get rid of these viruses. Is this true?
Is there any other way to get rid of this problem?
We are in a "managed" environment and our 1000 users do not have access to their C: drive only LAN shares. The burning function in XP Pro wants C: to do some sort of caching thing.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a Computer which operates on XP Service Pack 2 and has a Maxtor 1TB external Hard Drive hooked up. We do a lot of Video Editing (programs such as DV Storm, Vegas etc.) and up until yesterday the external came up as Local Disk E, but it became unplugged whilst the Editing programs were running. It now it comes up as Local Disk (I) but the problem is the Edit programs doesn't recognise any of the files (avi., mpg etc.) that are on the drive (comes up as 'invalid path'), and nor does it show them in their previous format.
View 4 Replies View Relatedi have had something on my pc for sometime now. i am unable to get rid of it. i have tried norton antivirus, trend micro, spy sweeper, adaware.all programs detect threats, remove them, but the problems keep coming back. it started out as random pop ups on my computer. then, a few days ago i realized i could not access my task manager or my control panel. i get an error stating that the 'task manager has been disabled by administrator' and 'the program has been disabled due to restrictions on your computer. contact administrator.'

View 1 Replies View RelatedIt got infected with Windows Police Pro. After disabling that, there are several 'remnants' left over. The only way I can run any spyware/malware removal programs is to install it fresh. The program(s) will open, then it'll shut down 2 seconds into the scan. It even shuts down my registry cleaner as soon as it begins to clean (after it finds all the errors). All these programs simply terminate themselves. It does this in SafeMode as well.
View 14 Replies View RelatedWhen you click Start>Search>All files and folders, there is a drop-down list of places to look in. Two of the items on that list are:
Local Hard Drives (C and
Local Disk (C
What is the difference between these two items?
i have two local disks: local disk ( c ) and local disk ( D )...
i can't reformatt my compputer because local disk ( C ) don't have enough
space, how do i ease local disk ( D )??? i have 7.82mb on local disk ( C )
and 74.5gm on local disk ( D ).
I am losing disk space during the day. After 10 hours, my 10GB of space is emptied. After I reboot, the 10GB comes back and starts losing space again. No viruses or trojan horses or spyware found using several software applications. Emptied tmp files, recycle bin, cache, etc. using several cleaning applications.
Whenever I open up My Computer and browse Local C drive, it takes at least 10 seconds to open up a single folder. I did chkdsk /f /r thing and found no errors on my C drive. I am also possitive that my PC is malware free.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI have a Toshiba USB flash drive. I have a problem when I using it on a win2000 sysem. It keeps poping up a warnning message saying I removed the drive. And then "This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)". But it is just a standard drive so that does not make sense. Other USB drives have the same issue. I can sometimes get them to work for a bit before this happens. It is almost like I removed it. It also will just do this at random. It is working pops up the warning, then not, wait a few minutes and it is working and conencted again. I tried another ports and same issue. Other USB devices work fine though.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell computer where one of the loading .dll files came up 'missing' one day, so it won't boot. I want to get all the photos and other docs off the hard drive. I had downloaded one version of linux and was able to see the files on the internal hard drive, but was unable to copy them to a memory stick or external hard drive. Now I've downloaded ubuntu and booted off a memory stick... this time, it's telling me that the internal hard drive has all kinds of bad sectors and won't let me access any of the files on there.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm having windows XP. My problem is that when i double-click on local drives in my computer, they open in a new window. This irritates me a lot as it consumes a lot of time and also an unnecessary window is opened. This might be a setting change or something else 2.....not sure. Anyways, i'll like to know how to make it normal, i.e. to make it open in the same old window.

The first time I launch any instance of Windows explorer and click the + next to "my computer" it takes about 3 minutes to respond - any subsequent browsing in that explorer window is fine. If I were to launch another windows explorer window - exact same behavior. If I go to save a file fom any app and I want to browse to a specific location - same process 3 minute wait. If I type the locations in lieu of browsing for them, no delay at all - only if browsing.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm not very technology-savvy. I believe I have/had a virus that doesn't/didn't allow me to open my Local Disk by double-clicking. An error would appear saying "Windows cannot find 'resycled/boot.com". Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the Start button, and then click Search."I looked up my error online and followed the instruction of someone (probably shouldn't have), where I deleted the "boot.com" in my Registry Editor. However, now, whenever I attempt to open my Local Disk by double-clicking, instead of getting the "Window cannot find...." error, I now get: "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association Folder Options control panel."

My wife has an old XP computer I want to buy her a new one but she doesn't like the vista and she wants to keep the old xp operating system. What I want to do is take the old hard drive and put it in the new computer as the master and take the new hard drive and put it in as the slave erasing the vista off it. Then using the master slave way can I transfer the xp operating system and all her files and data from the old hard drive to the new one.
