Drive Is Not Labeled Local Disk - Attached Screen Shot
Dec 19, 2006
I have recently noticed that my c: drive is not labeled Local disk as it usually is. It is now labeled SQ004126P01. I have attached a screen shot. Why would this have changed? Should I be concerned? Is this a problem?
Since I'm on dialup internet, I download Windows Updates from the Windows Update Catalog site and store them on my external HDD for installation later.
I have found something in the KB953297 Update I've not seen before. There appears to be more than one executable item in the downloaded package. See the attached screen shot.
The first begins with the word "all" with an icon typical of a setup executable. My guess is that is the one I should launch and it would install the appropriate software.
Im trying to repair install windows XP on my computer.I get up to the actual instalation part and it gives me this message:'Please insert the Compact Disk labeled ' VIA AGP Filter Driver Disk' into your CDROM drive (and then click OK. You can also click OK if you want files to be copied from an alternate location, such as a floppy disk'If i click cancel my mouse locks up and my screen flashes on and off and when i reboot it starts up the installation normally again but gives me this message halfway through the instalation.
i have two local disks: local disk ( c ) and local disk ( D )... i can't reformatt my compputer because local disk ( C ) don't have enough space, how do i ease local disk ( D )??? i have 7.82mb on local disk ( C ) and 74.5gm on local disk ( D ).
I'm not very technology-savvy. I believe I have/had a virus that doesn't/didn't allow me to open my Local Disk by double-clicking. An error would appear saying "Windows cannot find 'resycled/boot.com". Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the Start button, and then click Search."I looked up my error online and followed the instruction of someone (probably shouldn't have), where I deleted the "boot.com" in my Registry Editor. However, now, whenever I attempt to open my Local Disk by double-clicking, instead of getting the "Window cannot find...." error, I now get: "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association Folder Options control panel."
Just installed windows xp and I have an atapi zip drive that was assigned as c: and my hard drive was assigned as e:. Is there a way to change the drive letter of my hard drive to C: without reinstalling XP or damaging anything or is having the hard drive as E: harmless:
I want to rearrange my disk letters. I have a cdrw and a DVDRW plus 4HDDS the first of which is partitioned. i am running xp pro. The dvdrw is set as master on secondary and its slave is the cdrw. when i go to rearrage the drive letters, the cdrw doesnt show up though it shows up when i click on "my computer"
About a week ago. I noticed that I new folder appears under my Local Disk Drive. I do not have a clue what this folder is for. I have attached a couple of pictures of the folder (see below). The folder is titled "RD4B335D2AF9F44185AFC417F8D8D4B473DR".
I have a Computer which operates on XP Service Pack 2 and has a Maxtor 1TB external Hard Drive hooked up. We do a lot of Video Editing (programs such as DV Storm, Vegas etc.) and up until yesterday the external came up as Local Disk E, but it became unplugged whilst the Editing programs were running. It now it comes up as Local Disk (I) but the problem is the Edit programs doesn't recognise any of the files (avi., mpg etc.) that are on the drive (comes up as 'invalid path'), and nor does it show them in their previous format.
As of a few days ago I'm having a problem with my local disk (C) icon in my computer. It's gone! All I see right now is a generic icon. Is there a way to get back to normal.
I did a reformat of my computer. I disconnected my external drive but I also had a smaller drive (internal) labeled D that I use. Well, I just noticed after installing all software and updates that for some reason the C drive is now labeled D and vice versa. Why did this occur and can I change it. I always heard the primary drive should be labeled C.
I woke up to a pastel colors on my screen. My hubby was the last on it last night and I don't think anything happened.I am not for sure if my screen is going bad or what..Any help is appreciated..I have a screen shot
when i take a screenshot and paste it to a word document, it comes out black. I do not know where the problem is, word or printscrn? how can i avoid that issue?
Usually when need to get a screen shot of the desktop on my PC just press on (Prt Scrn) then open word and paste it, But I can?t do it on my Laptop HP Compaq, OS: wind XP 2002, SP2, I tried to press on (prt sc + alt) and I tried to press the key (prt sc) alone twice but it doesn?t work, does it need special software? Or a different function to do it?
I need to take a screen shot and I cannot get it to work for my life. I tried the ALT - Print screen button and it's not working at all. Is there a enable and disable feature for this? Dell system and keyboard (no it is not wireless
At some point in time, do not remember when exactly, a text box started appearing before arriving at the login screen. Unfortunately I cannot take a screen shot of it or ID a process since it technically happens before any user is even logged in. The title bar of the box is two squares and the body of it is the same. Then there is just an OK button. After clicking ok everything boots normally. Scanned for viruses and spyware using every known method and the install is clean. I normally use linux most of the time, but whenever I go into XP to play a game, this drives me nuts.
I recently attached a new dvd rom to my pc. After it was detached, the drive letters on my extra HDD's have changed around. Can anyone please explain to me how to change the drive letters back?
Is there anyway to designate which drive letters a USB storage device will take?I have a WinXP Pro, SP2, workstation attached to a domain and I have several mapped drives that are assigned to me. Additionally, I have one floppy, two hard drives and two CD drives. These take up A, C, D, E, and F. The mappings use G, I, N and Z. The probelm occurs when I plug in any type of USB storage device (my thumb drive or cammera). It automatically gets assigned G drive. I can access the USB device but when I go to properties, I get the mapped drives info.
I've seen blue screens maybe 5 times in the last few months, but never on a cold startup. It was turned off totally for several hours, and at startup I got "A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. FILE_SYSTEM If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps: Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed. If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer for any windows updates you might need. If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use safe mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced Startup Options, and then select Safe Mode. Technical information:* **STOP: 0x00000022 (0x000202EF, 0x824A2D28,0x824A2C70,0x8257E620) I killed the power, restarted, and got "Windows was unable to start successfully, etc.", on a black screen. Using 'last known good configuration', it then started normally. Perhaps not coincidentally, my Norton 2002(updated) was acting up again last night. A few days ago I could not get "Autoprotect" turned on even after a reinstall, then it mysteriously started working after one of many reboots. Last night "Autoprotect" quit again, and every attempt to engage it brought a Script Error message I could not get past, but after a single reboot, it started working. After the "Last good configuration" startup today, "Autoprotect" was off again, but after two tries brought "Script error", I was able to get it working simply by checking the "Autoprotect" box. I had another thread here regarding the Norton, titled "what did I do to my Norton", if referring to it helps any. This blue screen business first appeared before SP2 was installed, but I have never been able to connect it with software installations or anything else I have done. My uneducated opinion is that I have had something out of whack for a long time, but have never had someone babysit me through a long enough process to find it. I am trying to start up new computer and install Windows XP Pro and it comes up on boot and shows "FastTrak 378 Bios ver. 1.00.0.37" and on next line shows "No Drive attached to fasttrak controller" then shows "The Bios is not installed"
When I first start computer it shows the hard drive. It shows Scan Devices, Please wait Press <Tab> Key into User Window! Serial_Ch0 Master: WDC WD2000JD-00HBB0 Serial_Ch1 Master: No Device
I can go into the bios on start up and look at everything but can't get it to show drives. I can get to the A: prompt but that is all. How do I recognize my CD drive as I can get it to see it in the Bios and also the hard drive but when I go to change directory is says "invalid drive specification" I have a Asus A8V Deluxe mobo with AMD64 3000mhz and a Asus A9200 Video Card and SATA 200G WD HD and Kingston 512 DDR400 memory. A Pioneer DVR-A09 CD drive and a Aopen DVD player.
so what i did was scan for and attempt of bad sectors, when it was done i restarted the computer, then a blue screen pop up reading and checking for errors the last time i check it was on 33% so i was just sitting watching tv and all of the sudden my power for the whole house went out for about couple of min then when i turn on the computer, i tells me if i want to reboot in safe mode or normal, so i pick normal(tried safe mode also same thing happened) when it start loading a blue screen pop up saying A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer if this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen apperas again follow these steps Disable or uninstall ant anti-virus, disck defragmentation or back up utilities. Check your hard drive fongiuration, and check for any updated drives. Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption, and then restart your computer.
I have folders in this disk and I don't know if some should be deleted or moved, I could use some help before I do something wrong. These folders are on called c and it is empty, one with Documents & Settings with a folder with my name and other users I put on the computer. A folder called hegames which is empty. A folder called My Downloads 9.99 MB Real Player 10-5 Gold , A Windows folder 1.60 GB with addins, apppatch, assembly, config files and said should not open could cause problems, which I won't open. A Dell folder 1.99 MB contracts doc.drivers high speed int. A folder I386 which has a lot in it , said don't open. And the last a folder that said My Music which is empty. A folder called tmp with 1.44 MB Files;Appudater.exe.CI.log sownload manager.dll and the last System INFO configuration settings 1KB which I won't open. Can I delete some of these? Safely?
My son was online and went to some site that told him to install something to access the site he was trying to reach for playstation codes for a game or something arrrrrrrrg He clicked the x in the corner but it proceeded to download something and installed anyway. I immediately went to the control panel and add/remove and tried to get rid of it but then my computer restarted and I got a fast blue screen... From there... well let me just say its been miserable and it restarts everytime I even try to open my windows folder or regedit. I did manage to get it to search for all files and folders created at that particular time and I deleted every file created during that short period. Spybot wont run for a second and then it restarts my system again and no online virus scanner will run it just locks up or restarts my system. Did some more searching and deleted any unrecognizable files created today and now my process list is clear of all but the one savedump.exe When my computer boots back up to my desktop I get a windows box that says a serious system error occurred and then a second one right after that one. Its running now but I dont know for how long and I dont want to stay on the net cause I dont know if someone has ahold of my system or not. I managed to get hijackthis to download and ran it and this is all it shows. I know a couple of the files are apropos.exe and cxtpls but I cant find any of them in my system or registry now. No searches have found any more files since I deleted the last ones. I have a savedump.exe in my process list that was never there before until this happened and it wont allow me to kill the process in spybot. I started in safemode twice but it still wont allow me to do anything without rebooting as soon as I get close to finding the little booger. Thanks for any help you can give me. logfile of HijackThis v1.99.0 Scan saved at 8:52:07 PM, on 1/4/2005 Platform: Windows XP (WinNT 5.01.2600) MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 (6.00.2600.0000) Running processes: C:WINDOWSSystem32smss.exe C:WINDOWSsystem32winlogon.exe C:WINDOWSsystem32services.exe C:WINDOWSsystem32lsass.exe C:WINDOWSsystem32svchost.exe C:WINDOWSSystem32svchost.exe C:WINDOWSExplorer.EXE C:WINDOWSsystem32spoolsv.exe C:WINDOWSsystem32driversKodakCCS.exe C:WINDOWSSystem32 vsvc32.exe C:WINDOWSSystem32ScsiAccess.EXE C:WINDOWSSystem32svchost.exe C:Program FilesInternet Exploreriexplore.exe C:DOCUME~1GUPPYS~1LOCALS~1TempRar$EX00.448HijackThis.exe O2 - BHO: BTGrabObj Class - {00000000-F09C-02B4-6EC2-AD0300000000} - C:WINDOWSBTGrab.dll (file missing) O2 - BHO: (no name) - {016235BE-59D4-4CEB-ADD5-E2378282A1D9} - (no file) O2 - BHO: AcroIEHlprObj Class - {06849E9F-C8D7-4D59-B87D-784B7D6BE0B3} - C:Program FilesAdobeAcrobat 6.0ReaderActive XAcroIEHelper.dll O3 - Toolbar: &Radio - {8E718888-423F-11D2-876E-00A0C9082467} - C:WINDOWSSystem32msdxm.ocx O4 - HKLM..Run: [NvCplDaemon] RUNDLL32.EXE C:WINDOWSSystem32NvCpl.dll,NvStartup O4 - HKLM..Run: [nwiz] nwiz.exe /install O8 - Extra context menu item: E&xport to Microsoft Excel - res://C:PROGRA~1MICROS~2Office10EXCEL.EXE/3000 O9 - Extra button: Related - {c95fe080-8f5d-11d2-a20b-00aa003c157a} - C:WINDOWSweb elated.htm O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Show &Related Links - {c95fe080-8f5d-11d2-a20b-00aa003c157a} - C:WINDOWSweb elated.htm O23 - Service: Kodak Camera Connection Software - Eastman Kodak Company - C:WINDOWSsystem32driversKodakCCS.exe O23 - Service: NVIDIA Display Driver Service - NVIDIA Corporation - C:WINDOWSSystem32 vsvc32.exe O23 - Service: ScsiAccess - Unknown - C:WINDOWSSystem32ScsiAccess.EXE
i've tried to install drivers for the computer and noticed an error "could not access C:Windows" so i checked and the local disc is actually labeled H!I've changed C (which is a removeable drive) to X so C is avaliable, but i am unable to rename the Local Disc to C, i think because it's in use, how can i get round this? I cannot install a driver as it by default goes to C:.
when I open My Computer, it has a list a couple things;Hard Disk Drives Drive C: (with a hard drive icon)Devices with Removable Storage.DVD/CD+RW Drive D:(with a CD player icon)Other.Local Disk L: (icon with a drive that has a red circle over it with a white question mark in the red circle)I attached an image of My Computer window. I can format it but it is pointless because it has 0 free used space. I thought if I did that maybe I would be able to erase it, but that didn't work either. It doesn't show up in Disk Manager either. I have tried using Partition Magic to delete it, but on reboot it gives me an error 626. I am using Windows XP Home Edition.
When i double click on any local disk (Local Disk(C) ,(DVD-RW Drive (D) ,(CD-RW Drive (E) or any Removable Disk it will not open directly, it opens a search window. I have to open the the drop down box and select open. I know this was caused by a virus that no longer exist on my PC.
How do i edit the registry so that my drives open by double clicking?
