Usually when need to get a screen shot of the desktop on my PC just press on (Prt Scrn) then open word and paste it, But I can?t do it on my Laptop HP Compaq, OS: wind XP 2002, SP2, I tried to press on (prt sc + alt) and I tried to press the key (prt sc) alone twice but it doesn?t work, does it need special software? Or a different function to do it?
View 14 Replies View RelatedAt some point in time, do not remember when exactly, a text box started appearing before arriving at the login screen. Unfortunately I cannot take a screen shot of it or ID a process since it technically happens before any user is even logged in. The title bar of the box is two squares and the body of it is the same. Then there is just an OK button. After clicking ok everything boots normally. Scanned for viruses and spyware using every known method and the install is clean. I normally use linux most of the time, but whenever I go into XP to play a game, this drives me nuts.

I have found something in the KB953297 Update I've not seen before. There appears to be more than one executable item in the downloaded package. See the attached screen shot.
The first begins with the word "all" with an icon typical of a setup executable. My guess is that is the one I should launch and it would install the appropriate software.
I have recently noticed that my c: drive is not labeled Local disk as it usually is. It is now labeled SQ004126P01. I have attached a screen shot. Why would this have changed? Should I be concerned? Is this a problem?

View 8 Replies View RelatedI am using WinXP and my PRNT SCRN key fails to capture the screen image, I know it should but it doesn't. Therefore when I try to paste into PAINT, WORDPAD or MS WORD with the PASTE command or with CTRL+V nothing happens. I have checked this theory by tapping PRNT SCRN or ALT+PRNT SCRN or SHIFT+PRNT SCRN and then gone to CLIPBRD EXE. to view the captured screen, but nothing is on the clipboard. I can copy and paste in other programs but cannot copy the desktop screen using the PRNT SCRN key. Any suggestions on how to turn on this feature?

View 2 Replies View RelatedTo illustrate a setting for someone at work, I hit the print screen button and tried to paste it in M$ Image. No luck with Edit button or right click. Every option is gray color. HP Image won?t give me any options except ask me if I want to scan. I can only do it in M$ Word. I have tried to set up M$ Image as default (tools>general options>Open images in Image, but it still will only work in Word. This isn?t that big a problem now I know it only works in Word, but what is improperly configured? Shouldn?t I be able to create a jpg of my desktop in Image to paste or attach to an email or in a forum such as this?

the desktop icon size - have an 17" monitor and set resolution size to 1152x864 - but now the middle button on top right corner of screen will not not revert back to the double square allowing me to minimize my window - it seems to be stuck in Maximum size so I have to reduce the screen with the cursor, otherwise I loose everything above the Function Bar of File, Edit, View, History, Bookmarks, etc. I tried lowering the resolution, but that did not seem to work either...also when I click on this middel button between _ and X - it enlarges beyond my screen size and I cannot scroll
the screen on my laptop has become smaller due to some random button pressing because i was playing a game i might have triggered a shortcut of some sort can anyone help? when i load the game its resolution only takes up 1/4 of the screen than normal when it starts up also its smaller than usual

View 14 Replies View RelatedWhen Windows is starting up I get a mostly blank dialog box with an OK button at the bottom after the Windows splash screen disappears, on top of the Windows is starting up screen. The dialog box that contains a small piece of unrecognizable text in the top left corner that changes each time I start computer. Most of the icons on the desktop have changed to the generic I don't know what you are icon and no applications will run including Internet Explorer except the virus program . I get an error message that Windows needs to know what application created that file. (This includes cmd.exe)
The dialog box cannot be closed with the ( X ) in the corner and will only continue to start windows after sitting for about 10 minutes or clicking the OK button. I don't believe it's a virus as the virus program does load and did do a complete scan without finding a virus.
I'm sure this is a simple question but I can't figure out the answer. I'm running XP yet my start button and the taskbar aren't blue, the standard XP color, they're now looking like they did in Win 98. How do I fix this? Also I can't access the task manager either by control alt del or by right clicking the task bar and selecting task manager there. I've searched on this and found a number of different methods to supposedly fix this but haven't been successful so far.
View 9 Replies View RelatedThis may be somewhat esoteric but... Under my start button there is a sliver of the taskbar - either blue, silver, or olive green depending on the theme chosen. It wasn't always like this. The start button used to go all the way to the bottom of the screen without any 'line' below it. Has this happened to anyone else? Is there a way to make the start button fill the bottom left corner of the screen again?

However, for some reason I get a random freezing of the screen resulting in a hard shut down from the Power button. This has happened a few times now, more than twice while in IE6 and once on the desktop. I originally thought it might be IE6 so I have installed IE7 and firefox just to be sure, then it froze while on the desktop straight after i logged in. The PC isn't running hot at all, as I said it froze after I logged in and there is definately no spyware or anything as its a new PC and the only thing i've installed on it is AVG & IE7.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm using Windows XP Professional, an Intel P4 with 1.0GB Ram, nVidia GeForce FX5700 graphics card. Microsoft's Windows Defender Beta 2, Nod 32 Antivirus program and eTrust's Pest Patrol are running on my PC. I also have Windows Firewall running in the background. On starting the PC and before the Microsoft XP's welcome splash screen, I get a blank window. Not always, but 99% of the time. The only way I can close this window, is to click the OK button that appears on the screen. Clicking on the red X button doesn't help close it either. Once the window closes, the welcome screen appears and then the desktop with my icons, folders, shortcuts etc. appear and all is well with the PC. Most of the time the window is blank except for the OK button in the middle. On some occasions, a single file path(different each time I start the PC - examples listed below) can be seen on the dark blue band on top of the window and occasionally, inside the window:

its my previously-formatted HP Pavilion dv5201tx! The problem is as the title above. I can go into safe mode. I've used system restore twice. And in Documents and Settings folder I noticed it has:

Administrator.computer description name
Administrator.computer description name.000

username2
Is it creating more user folders? At some point Administrator.computer description name.000 wasn't there. Corrupted registry hive? I'm not sure! Restarted many times, used Last known good configuration, and it's still black after the boot screen. Please help!
My computer screen freezes up after a while, then turns into a blank light blue screen and then into a black screen. I have used regcure, PCMedkit, and PC Doc Pro I have also tried some of the online help for a fee but nothing seem to work. Lately when trying to reboot I got a blank red screen. I'm using xp pro and a Nvida GeForce 9400GT GRAPHICS CARD.

This time switching off for 10 minutes and then back on had no effect.I have been trying most of today to correct things without success. View 4 Replies View RelatedI previously owned a Lexmark Z25 printer and up to a certain point, it was printing ok. Then it abruptly stopped printing any pages. It sounded as if it was getting the signal from the computer, but nothing would print. Rather than buy new cartridges, which would have cost more than a new printer, I bought a Dell 720. Now, the color prints fine, but I cannot get the black to print. The cartridges are just about full with only a small amount out of the black cartridge.
