Mar 4, 2007I am using WinXP and my PRNT SCRN key fails to capture the screen image, I know it should but it doesn't. Therefore when I try to paste into PAINT, WORDPAD or MS WORD with the PASTE command or with CTRL+V nothing happens. I have checked this theory by tapping PRNT SCRN or ALT+PRNT SCRN or SHIFT+PRNT SCRN and then gone to CLIPBRD EXE. to view the captured screen, but nothing is on the clipboard. I can copy and paste in other programs but cannot copy the desktop screen using the PRNT SCRN key. Any suggestions on how to turn on this feature?

Mar 2, 2005To illustrate a setting for someone at work, I hit the print screen button and tried to paste it in M$ Image. No luck with Edit button or right click. Every option is gray color. HP Image won?t give me any options except ask me if I want to scan. I can only do it in M$ Word. I have tried to set up M$ Image as default (tools>general options>Open images in Image, but it still will only work in Word. This isn?t that big a problem now I know it only works in Word, but what is improperly configured? Shouldn?t I be able to create a jpg of my desktop in Image to paste or attach to an email or in a forum such as this?

Dec 28, 2006I previously owned a Lexmark Z25 printer and up to a certain point, it was printing ok. Then it abruptly stopped printing any pages. It sounded as if it was getting the signal from the computer, but nothing would print. Rather than buy new cartridges, which would have cost more than a new printer, I bought a Dell 720. Now, the color prints fine, but I cannot get the black to print. The cartridges are just about full with only a small amount out of the black cartridge.

Apr 25, 2010I have an old Sony VAIO (running Win Xp) that I am using a print server. The VAIO is connected to a HP PSC. The VAIO is on a wireless network along with two other laptops. One laptop is running Win Xp and the other is running Vista. Everything was working fine as far as printing went until I reinstalled the OS on the Win Xp machine (same OS). Previously the VAIO would go offline due to hibernation and so if I tried to print something from the Xp machine, it would get in the queue and get printed when I turned the VAIO on. Now the print jobs are not getting in a queue when the VAIO is offline.I don't know what I did right before and so I don't know how to remedy the problem.

May 31, 2007Just got this Gateway GT5238E core 2 duo 1.86 CPU/ 1gb ram/ 250gb hdd running Windows XP and the screen saver will not start.I think it is because the CPU is always doing between 2 and 6% cycling between Explorer/ Remote UI service and a few others with a total of 59 or 60 processes on my task manager all the time.My other machine running XP home has only 37 processes.There are many Intel services running that must be necessary because of this core 2 duo processor I am guessing.I searched through these forums for a similar situation but nothing quite like this problem was found Does anyone have any ideas on how I might stop this constant CPU activity or some other way to get my screen saver working.

After noticing that the speed wasnt preforming right - i.e. 1.25 GHZ instead of 2.25GHZ i went into the Bios on a MSI motherboad and went to CPU Speed and it was set as 100MHZ but i put it it up 200 thinking it was that or it could of been the CPU Frequency as 100MHZ and i put that up to 200MHZ. After doing that it rebooted with a black screen nothing comming up. I inserted a floppy disc to see if it was booting up as i would be able to tell to see if it accesses it - but no. What has happened - is there anyway of doing anything, as the keyboard doesnt work either as i would of been able to change it in the Bios.

The mouse moves, but nothing on the screen can be clicked. Also, control alt delete works as well, so I have found that if I go into the applications tab and open a new task and open/refresh "explorer" everything will start working again.

May 31, 2008I'm pretty sure I had a trojan or something cause my computer kept getting worse. I tried several scanning programs but none of them cleared it up completely.Anyway, now I can't even get past the windows loading screen, and if I try to log in through safe mode, I get stuck at the screen that says "SyS.multidisk" or something.Is there any way that I can log in dos mode or something and completely wipe my system clean and reinstall windows xp? I don't have the disk, it came with windows XP already on it. I don't care if I lose all my files, I just want a working computer again, free of any trojans or anything.So, can I somehow log in dos mode or something (I don't even know how to do that), wipe everything clean, including whatever virus screwed up my comp, and reinstall windows XP without the disk? Dec 24, 2004I recently had some spyware that took over my desktop. Everytime I would right click on my desktop it would bring up the options as if it was right clicking on a document in Internet explorer. So I went to view source and discovered that it was linking to C:windowsdesktop.html. I went and deleted that file. My desktop then went to a white screen that shifted to different shades of white. So I figured that some spyware program is still trying to reference that file. I dug through my registry via regedit and searched for anything that may be linking to that same C:windowsdesktop.html and I found one "PersistMoniker" and deleted the entry. Now my desktop has a sidebar, just like the ones if you were to open My Computer and on the left side of the window it has the System Tasks/Other Places/Details and their drop downs. Exactly the same thing with the exception that its now for my desktop and those options are Folder Tasks/Other Places/Details. I've taken a screenshot but have no web to upload the image too. If this is needed I can email it to whomever decides to help me Other things to note would be that if I go to Start -> Run... and type in explorer. It will just boot me back to the desktop after a flash of all my windows disappearing. Instead of launching windows explorer. There is an error message but it appears when I shut down the computer and it flashes so quickly that i cannot read it. The computer shuts down normally.

The computer doesn't recognize the disk. I've gone into setup and changed it to boot from the DVD-ROM. It still doesn't recognize the CD-ROM. Actually, it has a CD-ROM and a DVD-ROM. BIOS only see's one of them but I've changed the plugs to both of them to eliminate the bad one and still nothing. It's set to boot to the DVD.

Jan 8, 2005i'm using windows xp service pack 2. i try to go to the windows update page and all i get is a blank white screen and on the bottom left hand corner of the screen, it says done. but nothing is there. if i edit the top url, i can go anywhere i want but just not windows update. i have no viruses, spyware, adaware as i have a thorough check of all and came up empty.
