I key ctrl/alt/and prtscn to cache screen shots. I can no longer save to Paint. The pencil icon is on first instead of the select. It will not show the paste button on the drop down menu only the select all.
I can use paint using my scanner but not screen shots which I use all the time.
I want to get a full screen screen shot of all the different OSes including NT, 2000 and XP the problem I have is print scrn button does not work until your officially logged in. I want to send screen shots to some of my users who cannot follow directions.
My IE8 menu bar has the menu bar blacked out can't read the words.I just can see the tabs I open of pages, but the rest it's blacked out .I did a search here in the site and around the forums, but there's no reference about this so I did a little of Google and the results of the search was this page with exactly the same symptoms as me.So I try the theme fix , but every time I log into the net it happens again the IE8 menu bar is blacked out, So I try the kelly's corner Reg. Fix but nope same thing every time I turn off the system then turn it on again and log into IE8 the menu bar is blacked out.So I try uninstalling IE8 then reinstall but didn't work , the person in that forum of Webuser wrote that maybe it's something related with the windows Themes, but didn't say what was exactly ?
I've seen blue screens maybe 5 times in the last few months, but never on a cold startup. It was turned off totally for several hours, and at startup I got "A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. FILE_SYSTEM If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps: Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed. If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer for any windows updates you might need. If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use safe mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced Startup Options, and then select Safe Mode. Technical information:* **STOP: 0x00000022 (0x000202EF, 0x824A2D28,0x824A2C70,0x8257E620) I killed the power, restarted, and got "Windows was unable to start successfully, etc.", on a black screen. Using 'last known good configuration', it then started normally. Perhaps not coincidentally, my Norton 2002(updated) was acting up again last night. A few days ago I could not get "Autoprotect" turned on even after a reinstall, then it mysteriously started working after one of many reboots. Last night "Autoprotect" quit again, and every attempt to engage it brought a Script Error message I could not get past, but after a single reboot, it started working. After the "Last good configuration" startup today, "Autoprotect" was off again, but after two tries brought "Script error", I was able to get it working simply by checking the "Autoprotect" box. I had another thread here regarding the Norton, titled "what did I do to my Norton", if referring to it helps any. This blue screen business first appeared before SP2 was installed, but I have never been able to connect it with software installations or anything else I have done. My uneducated opinion is that I have had something out of whack for a long time, but have never had someone babysit me through a long enough process to find it. My son was online and went to some site that told him to install something to access the site he was trying to reach for playstation codes for a game or something arrrrrrrrg He clicked the x in the corner but it proceeded to download something and installed anyway. I immediately went to the control panel and add/remove and tried to get rid of it but then my computer restarted and I got a fast blue screen... From there... well let me just say its been miserable and it restarts everytime I even try to open my windows folder or regedit. I did manage to get it to search for all files and folders created at that particular time and I deleted every file created during that short period. Spybot wont run for a second and then it restarts my system again and no online virus scanner will run it just locks up or restarts my system. Did some more searching and deleted any unrecognizable files created today and now my process list is clear of all but the one savedump.exe When my computer boots back up to my desktop I get a windows box that says a serious system error occurred and then a second one right after that one. Its running now but I dont know for how long and I dont want to stay on the net cause I dont know if someone has ahold of my system or not. I managed to get hijackthis to download and ran it and this is all it shows. I know a couple of the files are apropos.exe and cxtpls but I cant find any of them in my system or registry now. No searches have found any more files since I deleted the last ones. I have a savedump.exe in my process list that was never there before until this happened and it wont allow me to kill the process in spybot. I started in safemode twice but it still wont allow me to do anything without rebooting as soon as I get close to finding the little booger. Thanks for any help you can give me. logfile of HijackThis v1.99.0 Scan saved at 8:52:07 PM, on 1/4/2005 Platform: Windows XP (WinNT 5.01.2600) MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 (6.00.2600.0000) Running processes: C:WINDOWSSystem32smss.exe C:WINDOWSsystem32winlogon.exe C:WINDOWSsystem32services.exe C:WINDOWSsystem32lsass.exe C:WINDOWSsystem32svchost.exe C:WINDOWSSystem32svchost.exe C:WINDOWSExplorer.EXE C:WINDOWSsystem32spoolsv.exe C:WINDOWSsystem32driversKodakCCS.exe C:WINDOWSSystem32 vsvc32.exe C:WINDOWSSystem32ScsiAccess.EXE C:WINDOWSSystem32svchost.exe C:Program FilesInternet Exploreriexplore.exe C:DOCUME~1GUPPYS~1LOCALS~1TempRar$EX00.448HijackThis.exe O2 - BHO: BTGrabObj Class - {00000000-F09C-02B4-6EC2-AD0300000000} - C:WINDOWSBTGrab.dll (file missing) O2 - BHO: (no name) - {016235BE-59D4-4CEB-ADD5-E2378282A1D9} - (no file) O2 - BHO: AcroIEHlprObj Class - {06849E9F-C8D7-4D59-B87D-784B7D6BE0B3} - C:Program FilesAdobeAcrobat 6.0ReaderActive XAcroIEHelper.dll O3 - Toolbar: &Radio - {8E718888-423F-11D2-876E-00A0C9082467} - C:WINDOWSSystem32msdxm.ocx O4 - HKLM..Run: [NvCplDaemon] RUNDLL32.EXE C:WINDOWSSystem32NvCpl.dll,NvStartup O4 - HKLM..Run: [nwiz] nwiz.exe /install O8 - Extra context menu item: E&xport to Microsoft Excel - res://C:PROGRA~1MICROS~2Office10EXCEL.EXE/3000 O9 - Extra button: Related - {c95fe080-8f5d-11d2-a20b-00aa003c157a} - C:WINDOWSweb elated.htm O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Show &Related Links - {c95fe080-8f5d-11d2-a20b-00aa003c157a} - C:WINDOWSweb elated.htm O23 - Service: Kodak Camera Connection Software - Eastman Kodak Company - C:WINDOWSsystem32driversKodakCCS.exe O23 - Service: NVIDIA Display Driver Service - NVIDIA Corporation - C:WINDOWSSystem32 vsvc32.exe O23 - Service: ScsiAccess - Unknown - C:WINDOWSSystem32ScsiAccess.EXE
Since I'm on dialup internet, I download Windows Updates from the Windows Update Catalog site and store them on my external HDD for installation later.
I have found something in the KB953297 Update I've not seen before. There appears to be more than one executable item in the downloaded package. See the attached screen shot.
The first begins with the word "all" with an icon typical of a setup executable. My guess is that is the one I should launch and it would install the appropriate software.
I have recently noticed that my c: drive is not labeled Local disk as it usually is. It is now labeled SQ004126P01. I have attached a screen shot. Why would this have changed? Should I be concerned? Is this a problem?
After a malware infection (Inet2 and SpySherriff - which took over my desktop) I cleaned up some files, directories and registry-entries. Now, after the cleaning activity as explained by techguys, everything seems going well. All programs do start without problems (through the start-menu or the quick-start taskbar), but there is a small drawback: my desktop screen shows only my wallpaper, there are no icons. The right-mouse click on the desktop also doesn't work (although the desktopsettings are accessible through the control panel). I use WinXP pro. what is wrong and how do I get the icons back on the screen?
The start of my problem is that I was receiving an error 'cannot initialize lsass.exe service'.After repairing XP SP2, the following is displayed every time that I boot:SAFE Mode - black screen with 'safe mode' in bottom corners of screen Windows Mode - blue screen. The mouse is responding. There are no icons. There is no text (except for 'safe mode' as above)CTRL/ALT/DEL does not display task manager.CTRL/ESCAPE does not display anything.Clicking on various parts of thescreen has no effect.I have replaced Explorer.exe from c:i386
When I turn on the computer I get the screen saver but no icons and no startup menu. Nothing happens if I right click on the desktop. I can get into some areas with task manager. However when I opened C: there is no control panel. I ran some spyware and did get rid of some infected files. I tried to download from the operating disk but nothing has helped.
I downloaded some "freeware", but what I wanted was nothing but!! I uninstalled, but the icons left on the screen did not go. Seems there should be a way, but I have not had any luck.
For the past week now I've had no desktop icons or windows bar at the bottom of my screen. This has limited me to how i can use my pc as I'm not very good with shortcuts etc to launch the web tab. i also cannot get the start menu up by pressing the windows button on my keyboard Does anyone have any suggestions as to what could have caused this and how i resolve the situation?
After ran system restore, the sys cant finish this process, we try in ran system restore in safe mode, but after that, we cant see the windows logo, just appear the mouse's cursor, we can use it, but no icons appear in system, this occur also in safe mode and when try with last know good config.
when I started up this am everything on screen was smaller, icons, print, and everything. When i shut it odd last nite I used same procedure I always use. Have ran a virus scan and was clean. Can you help , please?
How to find my missing icons from my system tray bottom right of screen by the clock?i used to have the volume and a couple of others but for some reason they have gone. ive checked settings for example the properties show icon for the volume etc but still i cant see them.
Cant display icons on desktop and cant get to Safe Mode to correct anything in Windows XP (have used F8) cant get past desktop screen to icons can only get task manager
i have a problem whenever I try to boot up it goes the screen with the Icons for each user. when you click on one of the user icons the coputer tries to boot but before it does it logs off and puts you back to the page with the user icons. I have tried every thing I know booting is save mode but it does the same thing
I had a few icons at the bottom left of screen (next to the start button)for my email and a couple of other programmes. For some reason they have disappeared, how do i get them back, I tried dragging and dropping but they just pop back to the desktop.
I'm pretty sure the title is self explainatory. I went to sleep last night with the computer on and when I woke up this morning the blue screen was there. I restarted and when Windows loaded the taskbar and the desktop icons were missing. It's been like this all day. I've done System Restores and uninstalled recent things that I've installed.
haii all techies i have a problem which has been pissing me for almost 3 weeks... As i start up my computer i become stuck with the desktop background after the welcome screen and the desktop icons and start button arrive too late almost taking more than 8 minutes... i am sure windows has loaded and i could hear the start up sound but not the icons and taskbar which appears only after long time.i have analyzed this problem for all these weeks ..i have come up with the conclusion that its a RPC(Remote Procedure Call) which is creating this problem..i diagnosed this when i could still start up task manager when i have desktop background and i end an svchost.exe process....Suddently a shutdown screen with a time down count of 1 minute appears saying that(RPC has been unexpectedly terminated..the system is going to shut down..save ur work..blah blah) ...But then all icons starts appearing and taskbar gets loaded...i rush into run command and type "shutdown -a" and the screen closes and i continue my work..
When i switch on the system, after the Welcome screen i am getting background screen but my icons are not appearing immediately. i am getting the icons only after 2-3 minutes until than i am getting only the background screen. usually i use to get all the icons and the windows scrren imeedaitely but it suddenly taking ages.
Just wondering if anyone can tell me how to get these back on the screen. My kids were playing with the computer and now the first row of icons on the left have moved off screen (all icons have shifted left), and even the bar at the bottom with the Start button has shifted left. BTW, this is a Korean version of XP.
xp boots past the login screen, but doesn't display any icons, taskbar or start button. On ctrl/alt/del and task manager - new task, I can run some apps. If I try to run explorer.exe I get 'cannot find....path not found...etc'.If I run cmd prompt, I can change to c:windows and dir for explorer - it's there but size is 1008640 bytes. I rename it to .old and run sfc which puts explorer.exe back - size 1004032 bytes. Now new task - explorer.exe loads my desktop icons, taskbar, and everything else. This is fine until I reboot, and then the problem recurs. Each time explorer.exe is replaced with the bigger file.
My computer shut down and when I turned it back on, all the icons were very large and they covered my whole screen,. A lot of popups started coming up that said it found new hardware(about 10 or 12). I restored it back a couple of days and now everything is back to normal. I hope I didn't make a mistake doing this. I ran my ewido and then my AVG. If it happens again, maybe I should just trash it.
I had to reformat my pc and after doing so all the icons/font etc is the size for my original screen. I went under device manager to update the monitor and it's still the same size.
I very cleverly purchased one of those Registry Cleaners that turned out to be not only a problem in its own right, but whose main purpose was to sell you additional services. Anyway: I used it a few times and noticed that the ''hidden icons'' on the taskbar were not only hidden but vanished. Since this happened immediately after the cleaner ran, ending with an ad (remember that I paid for this thing), I accessed its restore panel and tried to do that for the last run. Pushed the restore, back came my hidden icons, and an ad. Serveral days earlier I had noticed that my screen savers no longer ran. At that time I had checked the display panel and found that the the time to wait before the screen saver would work was now greyed out. Did not associate this with the cleaner until the icon thing, and had spent much time chasing for a cause and cure. So, back to the cleaner, went to restore, clicked an earlier date, and up came the bloody ad. No way could I do another restore without buying their additional service -a Tech service for x-number of dollars a year. This wonderful cleaner's name, by the way, is FREE Registry Fix -free for first six items checked, then $30.00 for the full bit. Guess who was dumb enough to pay for it. After all that: How do I get my bloody screen saver display back??????
For those of you who helped me with my green hair problem, thanks again. I finally had to actual learned all about color calibration myself -there apparently aren't any professionals in Reno, but I did learn enough to have the best looking color on a tv/monitor in Nevada. Pictures print out quite well.
Using PC and surfing the net, I left my PC for 2 mins and when returned the screen was blank, I have tried turning off and on, but each time the PC starts up, my icons flash on the desktop for a split second then it goes blank again, even if I just turn the monitor off, once turned back on the icons flash up for a split second then it goes blank again. My biggest worry of all is all the kids photo's and video clips I have saved on the PC and about 2 years ago my PC crashed due to a problem with the hard drive and we lost all our memories.
My XP SP2 is not detecting any new printer attached. Both parallel and USB ports are not being detected. When I connect the printer and reboot, its like nothing at all has happened. The PC sits there finished booting, calm and quiet. They were being detected and installed some time ago. I suspect it might be a window corruption.. or some registry problem. Is there any way to refresh the windows registery so that it will start picking up printers again? Other devices like memory stick, external hard disk etc. are being picked up and working fine with USB
