When I turn on the computer I get the screen saver but no icons and no startup menu. Nothing happens if I right click on the desktop. I can get into some areas with task manager. However when I opened C: there is no control panel. I ran some spyware and did get rid of some infected files. I tried to download from the operating disk but nothing has helped.
View 11 RepliesI very cleverly purchased one of those Registry Cleaners that turned out to be not only a problem in its own right, but whose main purpose was to sell you additional services. Anyway: I used it a few times and noticed that the ''hidden icons'' on the taskbar were not only hidden but vanished. Since this happened immediately after the cleaner ran, ending with an ad (remember that I paid for this thing), I accessed its restore panel and tried to do that for the last run. Pushed the restore, back came my hidden icons, and an ad. Serveral days earlier I had noticed that my screen savers no longer ran. At that time I had checked the display panel and found that the the time to wait before the screen saver would work was now greyed out. Did not associate this with the cleaner until the icon thing, and had spent much time chasing for a cause and cure. So, back to the cleaner, went to restore, clicked an earlier date, and up came the bloody ad. No way could I do another restore without buying their additional service -a Tech service for x-number of dollars a year. This wonderful cleaner's name, by the way, is FREE Registry Fix -free for first six items checked, then $30.00 for the full bit. Guess who was dumb enough to pay for it. After all that: How do I get my bloody screen saver display back??????
For those of you who helped me with my green hair problem, thanks again. I finally had to actual learned all about color calibration myself -there apparently aren't any professionals in Reno, but I did learn enough to have the best looking color on a tv/monitor in Nevada. Pictures print out quite well.
I have Windows XP Home Edition,I have Noticed that my tool bars are gray and in classic view.I go to startsettingscontrol paneldisplay and open it, the only option I have is Themes.I don't have desktop, screen saver, appearance, or settings. Anyone know why those options have disappeared. When I boot in safe mode I have most of those choices except screen saver and under appearance the only choice is classic. I went Start, Run and typed Services.msc Double-clicked the Themes service and it was already set at Automatic.

I'm not sure when they disappeared, but most likely when I had a virus. I've gotten rid of the virus, but the Screen Saver is gone.
I'm running Windows XP, of course. How can I get my tabs back?
After a malware infection (Inet2 and SpySherriff - which took over my desktop) I cleaned up some files, directories and registry-entries. Now, after the cleaning activity as explained by techguys, everything seems going well. All programs do start without problems (through the start-menu or the quick-start taskbar), but there is a small drawback: my desktop screen shows only my wallpaper, there are no icons. The right-mouse click on the desktop also doesn't work (although the desktopsettings are accessible through the control panel). I use WinXP pro. what is wrong and how do I get the icons back on the screen?

As i start up my computer i become stuck with the desktop background after the welcome screen and the desktop icons and start button arrive too late almost taking more than 8 minutes... i am sure windows has loaded and i could hear the start up sound but not the icons and taskbar which appears only after long time.i have analyzed this problem for all these weeks ..i have come up with the conclusion that its a RPC(Remote Procedure Call) which is creating this problem..i diagnosed this when i could still start up task manager when i have desktop background and i end an svchost.exe process....Suddently a shutdown screen with a time down count of 1 minute appears saying that(RPC has been unexpectedly terminated..the system is going to shut down..save ur work..blah blah) ...But then all icons starts appearing and taskbar gets loaded...i rush into run command and type "shutdown -a" and the screen closes and i continue my work..

View 3 Replies View RelatedUsing PC and surfing the net, I left my PC for 2 mins and when returned the screen was blank, I have tried turning off and on, but each time the PC starts up, my icons flash on the desktop for a split second then it goes blank again, even if I just turn the monitor off, once turned back on the icons flash up for a split second then it goes blank again. My biggest worry of all is all the kids photo's and video clips I have saved on the PC and about 2 years ago my PC crashed due to a problem with the hard drive and we lost all our memories.

All was well until recently when it began to remain on-screen for about 1 min when not in focus. Then it recently began to open on start-up at a size of only 1 icon wide instead of the previously set 3 icons wide. I've made no such changes to the configuration and am curious to know if anyone might know why/how it seems to have obtained a "mind of its own"???
View 10 Replies View RelatedI recently bought a new computer with a 512 MB graphic card. My old computer had a 128 MB card but at the beginning, I only had 8 MB. I was using a screen saver with fish in an aquarium. With only my 8 MB card, the animation was really impressive. I tried my screen saver yesterday with my new 512 MB card and the picture was terrible. There were plenty of horizontal lines on the screen. What could explain this? Could it be that the program wasn't intented for this type of card? In those days, big cards like mine didn't exist. There might be a new update to this screen saver.

We have one group in particular that has a user complaining that they are being logged off of remote desktop rather frequently. I checked their VM and the screen saver wasnt set to go off for over 2 hours and they are complaining that they are getting logged off after 30min. View 14 Replies View RelatedGot my wife a new E-machine (i realize it is a cheaper computer but good enough for us) anyway, when it goes into the screen saver mode just a black screen if it hasn't been in screen saver very long you can just touch the mouse like you do with any other computer and it comes back on, however, if it goes into sleep mode and you leave it for say 15 or 20 min it is kind of random times it will not come back on by touching the mouse or clicking the spacebar button you have to push in the power button on the tower (just push it in and let it right back out) and then the desktop comes back up , it comes out of sleep mode. My question is ---what can I do to make it like other computers and just be able to touch the mouse no matter how much time it has been in sleep mode to get it to come back on.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy problem is that once the screen saver has been in use, on moving the mouse to resume Windows the screen goes black. Sometimes if the monitor automatically switches itself off the same effect is seen once the mouse is moved. At this point the LED status indicator flashes and activity on the hard disk but there can be 5 minutes or more before the display operates. Frequently the display will not operate and the only option is to restart the PC. The power management settings are for always on and the monitor is set for always on. There is no password requirement to resume from screen saver to Windows. I have checked the drivers for the monitor and they are current.
